Chapter 34: The God's Beneath the City.
For three nights, thunder rolled above the capital without rain. The sky remained bruised black and silver, as if something enormous moved behind the clouds.
No one slept well anymore.
Especially Vivi.
The crown rested beside her bed instead of on her head, yet she could still hear it.
Whispers.
Not words exactly.
More like hunger.
She stood near the balcony of her chamber, staring over the sleeping city below. Torches flickered across rooftops. Guards patrolled in nervous silence.
And beneath it all—
Something pulsed.
Slow.
Ancient.
Alive.
Behind her, the chamber door creaked open.
"Haken," she said quietly, without turning.
He stepped inside, moonlight catching the silver in his eyes. The moment he entered, the fire candles dimmed slightly—as if flame itself reacted to him now.
"You felt it too," he said.
Vivi nodded.
"The city sounds wrong."
Haken moved beside her on the balcony. For a while, neither spoke.
That silence between them had changed.
It wasn't distance.
It was fear of what came next.
"The wolves are restless," Haken finally said. "They keep looking beneath the ground. Like they hear something moving."
Vivi crossed her arms tightly.
"I hear it too."
She hated admitting that.
Ever since wearing the crown, the world had become louder. Flames spoke. Shadows breathed. Even stone carried memory.
And underneath the capital—
Something was waking up.
Suddenly—
A scream echoed through the city.
Both of them turned instantly.
Another scream followed.
Then another.
The palace bells began ringing.
Guards shouting.
Panic spreading.
Haken's claws slid halfway free.
"That came from below," he growled.
The lower streets were chaos.
People crowded together in fear while soldiers forced them back from a cracked section of stone road near the old cathedral.
The ground had split open.
And from the darkness beneath it—
Black smoke poured upward like breath.
Vivi arrived with Haken beside her. The crowd immediately stepped away from them.
Not respectfully.
Fearfully.
She noticed.
Of course she noticed.
Captain Taren approached, pale-faced.
"My Queen," he said quickly, "the earth just… opened."
Vivi stared at the crack.
No.
Not a crack.
A door.
Ancient symbols glowed faintly beneath the broken stone—symbols older than the kingdom itself.
Haken suddenly grabbed her wrist.
"Don't go closer."
Too late.
The crown beside Vivi's heartbeat pulsed once.
The symbols answered.
And deep below the city—
Something moved.
A sound rose from the darkness.
Not a roar.
Not a voice.
A breathing.
Heavy enough to shake the ground.
The crowd panicked.
Several guards fled immediately.
Then the whispers started.
Inside Vivi's head.
Fire-born…
Key-holder…
Open the last gate…
She staggered.
Haken caught her instantly.
"Vivi."
Her eyes flashed gold for a second.
Then—
The smoke beneath the earth formed a shape.
Huge.
Horned.
Watching.
The entire city froze.
Even Haken looked shaken.
"What is that?" Taren whispered.
But Vivi already knew.
Not because someone told her.
Because the crown remembered.
And somewhere far away—
Viper smiled.
"The old god wakes," he whispered.
Back beneath the city—
Two enormous eyes opened in the dark.
