Chapter Text
Izuku
We were able to hire a carriage to take us to Buena village; it took most of the day to get there. Another thing I missed from my old world was our faster modes of transport. I was left to myself mostly on one side of the carriage. Zenith and Paul were still in their honeymoon phase, I believe that's what it's referred to. Still, Zenith was happy snuggling up to Paul.
Paul and Zenith were locked into a near-perpetual kiss, so I passed the time by reading Zenith's magic book. The least I could do is improve my understanding of the magic of this world, at least the basics.
Before I knew it, we had arrived at the village. I walked to the back of the carriage as Paul helped a slightly pale Zenith, likely a bout of morning sickness had hit her especially hard, or maybe it was motion sickness. I watched from the rear of the carriage as, slowly, I saw the village unfold in front of me. Rolling fields of what looked like wheat, oddly built houses dotted along the street.
"Hey Izuku!" Paul's voice cut through my thoughts of how I would deal with the smell of the local wildlife. "I was just saying, we'll be at the house soon. You okay back there?"
I gave him a crisp nod that seemed enough for the former adventure, as he went back to checking on Zenith. I turned back to see more of where I would be staying for the next several years or longer, potentially.
I noticed the cart came to an abrupt halt. I looked back and saw Paul hop out of the front of the carriage. I slowly walked over to the other opening. Paul was talking to an older man; from how he stood, it seemed like he must've been very important or full of himself.
"So, you're the new knight?" The old man asked as he seemed to look over Paul. "Well, at least you look to have experience, better than most of the villagers."
"Yes! I'm an experienced adventurer, and even my wife was my party's healer." Paul's response was quick, almost rehearsed, but before I could listen more, someone tugged the collar of my shirt and pulled me back into the carriage.
I looked and saw Zenith pressing her finger to her lips.
'Right… It's rude to eavesdrop, but we don't want to cause a scene with me yet.' Yet another issue, thanks to my hair, I certainly miss my old world in that regard, but I would just have to live with it; I couldn't imagine myself bald.
Gracefully, the cart started moving again before I could let that idea flourish, and so I walked back over to my spot by the other end of the carriage.
"Well, we're finally here!" Paul shouted as the carriage came to a halt in front of the gate to a large house, and he pulled himself back into the carriage.
I hopped out of the carriage as Paul helped Zenith down, and I looked upon our new home.
The building was nothing like what I had seen in Japan before coming here, but I could recall seeing English Tudor-style houses that bore a resemblance. The white walls with dark wooden beams holding the home steady, a thatched roof giving it a rustic feel. The gardens that surrounded the home were well-kept, and I figured Zenith would at least enjoy the space to make the garden her own.
Not to mention the space was ideal for young kids – now I was one again, would they be expecting me to run wild in the garden like a normal child? I put that thought aside for the time being. Overall, it was a lovely home, and I was excited to see the inside. Would it keep this bucolic aesthetic?
"What do you think, Izuku?" Paul smirked as he asked me, likely expecting praise.
"It's really nice…" I said, I turned back to see the view, and truly it was, "...beautiful…"
I'd never seen anything so beautiful in my past life, so I took a deep breath of the fresh air and sighed. The view from the hill truly felt like I was looking at a painting.
"Yeah, you can't beat the countryside for this view," Paul added, only to get that lecherous grin on his face. "Though you won't exactly have a lot of options when you're older and want to meet gir— owww!" Paul yelled as Zenith pulled his ear.
"And you had to ruin a sweet moment," Zenith sighed before she let go of her husband's ear, but gave him a peck on the cheek.
We took in the scenery for a moment longer. I turned back and made my way to the front door. Once inside, I saw it had a large fireplace in the centre of the main room, a nice dining table with a few chairs set up near the supposed kitchen.
"Well, this is nice," Zenith said as she walked through the front door, but her eyes narrowed when she wiped her finger across the table. "Well… maybe a bit dusty, but nothing we can't fix."
After moving what little we had brought with us inside, Zenith and I started cleaning while Paul went to meet a few of the locals. As we cleaned the house, I made it a point to check for anything that could pose a risk. Thankfully, the previous occupant had maintained the house well, and there were no pests, mould, or need for repairs, outside a hole I accidentally made when I thought I saw a rat and threw a book at it.
Only to learn it was just my shadow.
"Well…I mean, at least it's our first funny memory in the house," Zenith chuckled as she looked at the hole in the wall. Thankfully, it didn't open up the house to the outside.
"Hey, I'm back!"
Looking away from the hole, I saw Paul walk in with a basket of various vegetables. He gave us a puzzled look as he immediately spotted the hole and gave me a cheeky grin.
"Oh, did Izuku not like the house or something?" he laughed as I felt my cheeks turn a shade redder. Zenith giggled as she walked up and took the basket from Paul.
"Whoa, how did you get all this?" She asked as she put the basket on the kitchen table.
"Heh, I got that from one of the village guards, his name is Laws, nice guy. Wanted to make us feel welcomed, but I bet my charms did most of the work hehe," he said with a smug grin, as Zenith playfully smacked his arm. "Oh yeah, I met Law's wife, apparently she's expecting a kid as well. Give it a couple of years, Izuku, our son and Law's kid can be best friends hehe,"
"Ohhh, and what makes you think we're having a son? We already have Izuku, and I think we'll have a girl," Zenith's response came with a pout. Paul laughed, pulling Zenith into a tight hug.
"Well, if that's true, guess we'll just have to try for another baby after this one, so we both get what we want hehe~" he pulled Zenith into a kiss. The pair seemed to be in their own world as they kissed, only stopping when I let out a sneeze.
'Thank you, dust,' I thought as I saw Paul, during the kiss, had started groping Zenith's behind. 'That pervert has no restraint, even with his pregnant wife…'
Lilia
From royal handmaiden to a simple maid, truly, this cruel world loved to play jokes on people, including myself. Just two months ago, I was a royal handmaiden in the Asura palace concubine estate. Not only did it require me to perform the duties of a simple maid, but also to act as a guard to the newborn princess Ariel.
Sadly, my skills in the water god style… petered out at Intermediate.
This was made quite apparent when, while checking on the newborn princess, a group of would-be assassins attacked us. I was able to kill two of them, but my lack of talent became clear when, before I could realise it. One of the assassins slipped by my defence and plunged a dagger into my leg.
Were this not harmful enough, immediately I realised it was coated in a powerful poison as I soon felt my strength leave me. Before the poison claimed me, the guards burst through the door and slaughtered the remaining assassins and rushed me to the palace mages. It was close, but they saved my life and even saved my leg.
Unfortunately, the poison had left its mark on me, I could no longer use my leg to its fullest. After word, made it to the king, I was promptly discharged as a royal maid the very next day.
I took the opportunity to leave the capital, not taking my chances in the king deciding not to let someone with my knowledge of the palace operations leave. One thing I was grateful for was this dismissal… I was away from those disgusting nobles and their lustful leers. I wasn't as clueless as many commoner maids, who thought they would land a sweet husband if they became a maidI knew most were used by the nobility till the lords were through with the girls. If they were lucky, leaving them with a bastard or two to raise alone, if not a jealous wife would fill a matching set of coffins.
I had planned to secure a job in the far borders of Asura. While initially I debated attempting to secure a place in service of the Lord of the city of Roa, I realised many in the nobility knew of me and would drag me back into their game and use me as a tool.
This killed many opportunities.
So after wandering the agricultural lands for over a month, I found myself in a small farming village, where I spotted a familiar name on a job posting.
'Paul Greyrat'
He had apparently settled down and was seeking to hire a maid to help his pregnant wife, and he was giving special priority to those experienced in caring for children and knowledgeable as a midwife. To think the boy I met so many years ago had settled down and was starting a family.
Unfortunately, our connection was far from… pleasant… for me…
But I knew that connection was important, especially if I threatened to tell the mother of his child about our shared experience.
Was I being heartless? Absolutely, though I would allow him to prove himself. Most people wouldn't give the boy I knew at my father's dojo that chance.
The job was perfect; I knew Paul had thrown away his title as a noble long ago. So he wouldn't be close to anyone connected to the politics of the Asura kingdom.
So, taking the job posting, I made my way over to meet my future employer.
It was easier than I expected. In the posting, Paul had requested that any interested individuals meet him at one of the village's watchtowers, likely to protect his wife and unborn child from anyone who harboured a wicked plan.
The reunion was short.
He recognised me quickly and seemed to be trying to hold back a lecherous grin as he looked at my chest for a moment. But the blood seemed to return to his head a moment later, and he discussed my qualifications and what I would be required to do.
It seems I didn't need to blackmail the former noble yet. As our past was enough for him to know I was trustworthy enough.
Unfortunately, he failed to mention an important detail.
That his wife already had a child, a toddler with green hair, the exact same shade as the Superd race.
Unsurprisingly, Paul's house was the largest one in the village, as expected with local lords in villages like this. As he showed me in, I came face to face with his wife.
"Oh, hello, you must be here about the maid posting." She smiled before making her way over to me and quickly wrapping me in a hug.
'She's more friendly than I expected,' I thought, I definitely could see how she got Paul's attention as I took a brief glance at her chest. 'Notos men do have a thing for women with large breasts…'
"My name is Zenith Greyrat. It's a pleasure to meet you." She squirmed while saying her new surname, likely still in the early stage of marriage.
"No, the pleasure is all mine, ma'am," I replied as I took a bow in the Asuran style.
"Well, good to see you two are getting along!" Paul said as he looked around the room, his expression turned confused. "Hey Zenny, have you seen Izuku?"
"Oh, he's just in his room, I'll call him, he has to meet… uhh sorry, but what is your name again?" Zenith asked with a tinge of embarrassment.
"My name is Lilia, my lady," I answered respectfully.
"Oh, sorry, Lilia, Izuku! Come here, please!" Zenith shouted. A moment later, I heard a door open and the patter of small footsteps running around. I looked to the stairs, and I saw the young master as he made his way down.
But I froze when I saw his emerald green hair, the same colour as the Superd race. Like everyone, my parents told me stories about the demon clan to have me behave, or the Superd would take me in the night. I knew it was a lie, but I also knew of their role in the Laplace war.
My previous training stopped me from reacting outwardly, beyond a slight flinch and my eyes widening, but it only lasted for a moment.
"This is Izuku. Say hello, sweetheart." The boy took a slight bow, that/he certainly lacked refinement, and held out his hand to me.
"M-my name is Izuku…Greyrat, it's a pleasure to meet you." I looked to his outward hand, and after a moment, I hesitantly took it and returned the gesture.
'He lacks the red gem the Superd would have in the centre of their forehead, and I don't see the tail that children of the Superd tribe have. Why would Paul or Zenith take this boy in? Maybe it was some sort of demonic curse, or he's more powerful than he puts on,' I narrowed my eyes at Izuku, the boy didn't seem to notice, however.
"Mama, can you help with something?" He asked Zenith in a cute tone.
"Maybe later, sweetie," Zenith apologised. The boy let out a disappointed "ok" before he walked back to his room.
"Don't worry about Izuku, the kid is sweet, but he can be judgmental," Paul reassured. Zenith giggled, though.
"Sweetie, he only does that with you. But don't worry, Izuku is a sweet boy, your biggest issue with him might be asking a lot of questions," Zenith and Paul chuckled, likely recalling a moment with the so-called child.
"Well, I need to get back and help Laws with the patrol. Zenith, you okay to show Lilia around?"
"Oh, that would be wonderful." Zenith waved to her husband as he headed out the front door. "So time to show you around,"
The house, while large, was simple. The ground floor had the basic facilities, it was simple to maintain. Upstairs had several rooms, the largest obviously belonging to Paul and Zenith, granted the bed looks capable of holding three people without getting too tight. There were a couple of rooms with minimal furniture; one did have a chest in the corner, but Zenith said it was just for her and Paul's old adventure gear.
When we reached the door at the end of the hall, Zenith gave the door a light knock.
'Oh, this must be the "boy's" room.' This was confirmed when Zenith slowly opened the door, and I saw the room, like the others, it had basic furniture, yet he had a small bookshelf with a few books already on display.
The boy was lying on his bed as he was seemingly reading one of his books, it was noticeably thick.
'What toddler would read a book like that?' This made me more sure, the boy wasn't what he seemed.
"You doing okay, sweetie?" The boy simply nodded back as he turned the page of his book. I caught a glimpse of the page as it flipped, and it looked like a book of magic.
"Well, you enjoy yourself," Zenith said farewell and closed the bedroom door. After getting back downstairs, we sat down at the dining table.
"So, as the request stated, you would help me maintain this house and various other things, most importantly, helping me through this time." Zenith rubbed her belly. I thought I saw a bump already developing, but I paid it little mind for now.
"My lady, if I could be so bold, I have a question." Zenith tilted her head in confusion, but signalled me to continue. "That boy… What exactly is his relation to you? While you are old enough to have brought a child into this world, it seems strange that you have only now settled down when having a second child."
"Ohhh no, Izuku isn't my child, well I mean I didn't bring him into this world, but I've cared for him like he was my own, you see…" Zenith explained the story of how she and one of her party members found Izuku abandoned in the woods. Then, how she had been raising him as her own child since that fateful day.
"It's actually because of Izuku I found out about my pregnancy. I was teaching him how to use healing magic when he used detoxification on his first try. He said something was wrong, and I checked. Now I'll have two children to look after," Zenith smiled as she recalled what to her sounded like a sweet moment.
Yet…
'A mage at two years old, I've heard of prodigies, but something feels off about this child. I need to watch him carefully. I refuse to fall to a demonic child like in that story,'
I remember the story of the possessed prince, how it would crawl around the palace, and its smile would disturb the entire staff. Till one night, a maid found him only to be killed when the child pulled out a knife and pierced her heart like it was nothing after she picked him up.
Izuku
After Zenith closed my door, I closed my book of magic. It had only been a week since Paul posted the job request, and already, we had a maid.
'Paul's been on a good streak of luck lately,' I thought, but I was worried.
Lilia was truly beautiful, just as beautiful as Zenith. Her violet purple eyes and reddish brown hair tied up in a half bun, much like Zenith's hairstyle.
But she was a little too beautiful; her slender and voluptuous body would definitely turn heads. I wasn't trying to be creepy, but mentally I was sixteen, and I knew if I found her beautiful, Paul would as well. She was his type in every category, from the little bits I learned about my new parental figure and the many girls I saw him chat up.
I would give him the benefit of the doubt for now. I didn't like him, but since learning of his upcoming parenthood, he'd been a bit better, or at least kept his lecherous gaze on my mother only.
Granted, that still felt creepy.
But… something felt off. When I came down earlier to say hello, I saw her flinch slightly, and her eyes widened. Maybe she was surprised that Zenith and Paul already had a child, but I suspected it was more my hair.
I couldn't exactly blame her. I finally learned the story of the Superd, how they butchered whatever got in their way, be it ally or enemy. And that's not considering how, according to Elise, people turned the Superd into the equivalent of the boogeyman to scare kids into doing as they were told.
It was so effective that anyone born with even green hair was painted with the same brush as the demon race. Heck, my history teacher in my past life showed us it's a basic tactic during and post war.
'But…Zenith doesn't care, nor did Elise or even Paul… maybe I can show Lilia I'm not a monster…'
Just a few days after Lilia arrived, I decided it was time to start with my plan. After Paul left to do another patrol with Laws. I saw Lilia was cleaning up the kitchen after breakfast.
'Let's do this Izuku.'
"Lilia, do you need help?" I asked as I walked up to the redhead, and she gave me a quick glance before getting back to wiping down the table.
"No, master Izuku, I don't require your assistance." Her reply was cold; it felt familiar.
"Oh, ok… but if you need anything, just ask," I replied cheerfully, but Lilia didn't even look back. Before I left, I saw Lilia had left a load of washing in a bucket nearby.
'Maybe I can help with the washing, Elise always said how annoying it is without any help.'
I headed over to the bucket. Once more, I was missing another modern commodity of my old world, but I pushed that to the side. I grabbed one of Paul's shirts, soaking it in the bucket, and used it on the washboard. I was doing well, I thought, till I grabbed what I then realised was a pair of Lilia underwear.
I let out an involuntary ewww, and I lost focus. Suddenly, my free hand put all my weight on one side of the bucket, and before I knew it, I was soaked, water was everywhere, and the clothes were strewn across the floor. My failure seemed to get Lilia's attention, as she looked at me with an annoyed glare. It didn't help when I saw I was still holding her underwear in one hand.
"I-I'm sorry," I sputtered. "I was trying to help…" Lilia just let out a sigh as she handed me a towel.
"Go change and bring back your wet clothes. I'll add them to the bucket." Lilia's tone somehow got colder, more familiar to my old teachers. I reluctantly took the towel and headed to my room.
It had been a couple of days since the washing mistake, and Lilia was still cold to me, not like telling me to leave her alone, but she gave off an aura that she wanted me to leave. It felt stupid, but I still wanted to be on good terms with her.
So as she was busy cleaning the bedrooms, I went over to the kitchen.
'Lilia has been working really hard, maybe I can make her a snack or lunch, how tricky can it be?'
Lilia
Every day, my suspicions kept being supported. Izuku had caused several issues as I tried to do my duties as the family maid. Claiming he was trying to help, but the boy just made things worse, and I still hadn't forgotten his attempt to steal my underwear. I made sure to scrub those pairs thoroughly that night.
'Perhaps he's trying to have me fired, I haven't let it be known why I chose this job, but for all I know, the boy is smarter than I give him credit for…' I could just smell what was undoubtedly smoke. Instinctually, I ran to the kitchen and saw the boy next to the oven as smoke poured out of it
I grabbed him and placed him by the door, while I didn't care for him, if he had gotten burned, the mistress would be angry and blame me. I was able to handle the building inferno before it got out of hand.
As I opened the windows and door to disperse the smoke, I saw Izuku clutching his shirt and looking to his feet. I looked to the oven and saw what had caused the fire, the charred remains of…I honestly couldn't tell anymore.
"I-I wa..wanted to..ma-ake you so...mething for you," he wheezed, likely from the smoke still hanging in the air.
'This just proves my suspicions; he either tried to start a fire or perhaps he was seeking to poison me, but he's failed.' I glared hard at the emerald green-haired boy; he flinched under my gaze.
"Don't go near the kitchen again," I told him firmly. He nodded before heading into the garden, and left me with another mess to clean.
'Paul, what have you allowed into your home?'
Izuku
It had been a month since Lilia arrived, and just like in my past life, I only made things worse. I would either make the job harder for Lilia or I would cause an accident she'd then have to clean up.
Somehow, her cold glare reached new levels of intensity.
So today I gave her peace as I kept reading my magic book. I had found a nice shady spot outside near one of the windows, but I was confused about a few things. As it claimed, I was set on mana at birth, but while I hadn't trained often recently, it seemed my mana pool grew slightly. I needed to run tests as well on something I vaguely remember hearing about, cutting down casting time on spells. I didn't get the whole story in the guild before because Paul had been chased out by a team of female adventurers.
"Still, if either is correct, I could train my mana pool so I can do a lot more magic when I'm older, but cutting down incantations is perfect when in a rush or battle," I whispered to myself as I studied the book. I wish I still had a notebook like my old hero ones, but that was an unnecessary expense at the moment.
"Oh, Izuku, what are you doing out here?" a soft voice, a familiar voice, asked. I looked up to see Zenith with a confused expression. I also saw her baby bump had started growing; it had been a couple of months, two, three at least, since we learned about it.
"I'm just reading," I replied casually, trying to find where I had stopped on my page.
"Ok, just, you seem distant lately, is everything okay? If there's a problem, don't worry, mama's here."
"Uhhhh, well… I know Lilia is our maid and supposed to help us, but. I want to help her; it doesn't feel right. I do nothing while she works. But I mess everything up, even doing the laundry or dusting. Also, every time I mess up, it makes Lilia angry with me, and I want to be friendly with her," I explained. Zenith smiled before she patted my head.
"Well… maybe you can ask Lilia to teach you. I had a couple of maids growing up who taught me a couple of things. Besides, sweetie, she's just getting to know you, just give it time, what's the worst that will happen?"
"Okay…thanks mama…"
Lilia
'This new trick is getting increasingly annoying…' I thought, as once again the thing known as Izuku came up to me as I was putting away several dishes and utensils, I knew what he was after.
"Lilia…sorry to ask again, but…" Izuku held the bottom of his shirt, maybe trying to act cuter to get any sympathy from me.
It wouldn't work.
"Once again, master Izuku, I can't teach you; my duty is your caretaker, not your teacher," I replied coldly. Usually, he leaves after that, but today he stood his ground.
"B-but.. I want to help! Also, I want to know how to cook like you!" He shouted back. I bit my lip to hold back my irritated groan. I hastened my pace, as I put the last item away, a chopping board on one of the higher shelves, and turned to face the annoying pest.
"For the last time, no! I'm tired of your constant pestering!" I shouted, my annoyance from the last several weeks boiled to the surface now and wouldn't be contained. "I won't teach you! I don't want or need your so-called "help"! And I especially don't want you anywhere near the laundry basket!" I slammed my fist on the counter, with unusual strength, my anger likely adding to my strength. The boy's eyes grew wide as he looked at me. He looked ready to rebut, but I wasn't having it.
"Furthermore, I don't care what master Paul or mistress Zenith claim, your a-" Before I could even finish my rant, the brat ran to me and somehow pushed me, I don't know how but the push actually had me land on my backside, I threw up my arms in front of my face, ready if the thing had finally decided to show his true colours.
But all that happened was hearing a loud thunk and a crack, but nothing happened to me. I looked over and was in shock.
Izuku was lying on the ground, clutching his head. I saw blood seeping between his fingers and started to pool on the ground. Then he burst into tears, his wails echoed through the house. I looked over to see the cutting board I had just put away a short distance from us, one edge stained red in blood.
Just then, the front door burst open, and Zenith, whose baby bump had grown much more pronounced lately, came running in.
"What's the problem!? Is everyo…." Her eyes widened dramatically as she saw the scene before her. Me on the floor, Izuku crying as he held his bleeding head and the bloodied cutting board.
"BY LORD MILLIS! IZUKU!!!" She ran to the crying toddler as she pulled him into her embrace. "Izuku! Dear, I know you're in terrible pain, but I need you to let go of your head so I can help, please, sweetheart." Whether it was her experience as an adventurer or parental instincts, Zenith coaxed Izuku to let her see his injury.
I saw slowly as the crimson of his blood stained his green hair, before Zenith gently placed a hand on Izuku's head, immediately she began reciting her spell and apparently healing Izuku, as the green aura faded.
Shhhhh, it's okay, I'm here," Zenith whispered as she stroked Izuku's now healed head. Yet when she looked back at me, all I saw was cold fury.
"What. Happened?" The usually sweet and kind Zenith was gone; her voice was dripping in a mix of rage and protective instincts.
'That's it… the little demon didn't just want me gone or dead, he wanted to destroy me. No one would hire a maid who attacks the child of your employer, even if they are adopted, they still carry the family name. This demon won't rest ti-'
"It was my fault!" Izuku shouted through his tears as he held tightly to Zenith's blouse, causing my thoughts to grind to a halt. Zenith looked at the still crying toddler.
"Izuku, what do you mean?" She asked.
"I-I was distracting Lilia, I kept asking her to teach me, and she couldn't focus; that's why the chopping board fell…"
'What is he doing?' I asked myself as Zenith looked at me, then back to her son. 'Why is this creature protecting me? ' I screamed at him, but h-'
"Lilia! Is Izuku telling the truth? Did he distract you?" Zenith's question cut through my thoughts. I stood back up and took a deep bow.
"Yes, my lady!" I replied, after a few moments, Zenith seemed back to her usual self.
"I'll put Izuku to bed. Please clean this up, Lilia."
I watched as Zenith made her way to the stairs, but as she passed, I heard Izuku whimper, "I'm sorry".
After Zenith took Izuku to his room, I cleaned up the mess and went about my day. Cleaning the blood from the chopping board proved hard, but not because of it staining it, but… because I couldn't stop seeing Izuku crumpled and feeling an ache race through my heart. Eventually, Paul came home and, after hearing about the accident, asked for details on it; thankfully, Zenith was the one to elaborate on it. Paul looked at me with a smile.
"Huh, I guess the little guy must like you; he never tries to protect me," Paul laughed as we ate dinner.
"That's your own fault, sweetie." Zenith giggled. "I bet he hasn't forgotten when you tried to use him to get that one adventurer to talk to you." I watched Paul sulk as he looked hesitant to talk about that.
"All Izuku did was cry till the beast girl took him and rocked him to sleep. I still feel a throb in my ass from where she kicked me."
The pair reminisced more on their time with Izuku and their adventuring days, all the while I casually poked at my own dinner.
Soon enough, Zenith and Paul made their way to bed, and after finishing my duties for the day, I headed to my room. As I neared my room, I took a gamble and walked to Izuku's room. I hesitantly reached for the door handle but decided against disturbing him.
'I've caused him enough trouble… I should leave him to rest…' I backed away from the door and went to my own room.
As I lay in my bed, I couldn't help but remember all the moments with the boy.
'All those times he made a mess… did he actually want to help and was just clumsy?' Thinking back on it with this new perspective, I saw it. Anytime he made a mistake, he always looked truly sad.' I thought of all the sad looks Izuku gave me flashed in my head. I felt my heart ache.
'Was I wrong? Was Izuku truly a good boy like Paul and Zenith said, and I was just wrong' the thought plagued me as I slowly fell asleep.
The last thing I remember before falling asleep was Izuku whimpering an apology.
Izuku
Silence, that's something I didn't know I would find uncomfortable. In this life, heck, even my past life, I was always used to hearing something in the background. From the laughs of the customers in a bar when the party stayed at an inn, the bugs and animals near our camp, I was definitely happy not hearing Elinelise moaning anymore.
'I can only take so much, hearing my aunt's screaming a random man's name…'
But it also meant I had more time to think.
I carefully touched my head. Zenith had used three healing spells on me to make sure I was fine, and my injury was gone. I don't know why, but I felt I could feel a scar even though it was impossible due to my mother's reaction time in casting a healing spell.
But I couldn't get Lilia's face out of my head…
'She looked terrified… like I would hurt her…' My chest grew tighter, remembering the fear growing across her face as I saw the chopping board fall from the cupboard, my legs moved on their own, and suddenly I was somehow able to push her, and all I remembered was the sound of the chopping board likely cracking my skull.
'Funny, not the first time you had your skull cracked saving someone repulsed by you,' I shook my head. I curled up with my thick blanket, yet I couldn't help but feel a chill run through me.
'Why would Lilia be scared of me? I'm a mess, but I never hurt her or threatened her?'
'Oh, don't act so stupid, you had over a decade of people treating you like crap or a freak! Only the stupid maid can't do anything to you… for now at least,'
'Shut up, stop thinking like that, I'm no-'
'Oh, you stupid Deku! Stop kidding yourself, in your first run, everyone hated you, even our mother, she just hid it well. Second time around, we were abandoned again, only now Zenith saw something to fill a void, a void that's going to be filled with her true child. Not a green-haired freak who isn't even hers,'
'Shut up! Zenith never used that word! She hit Paul when he made jokes!'
'Yeah…because she didn't have a real kid, now she does, and you know they'll have more and you'll be forgotten, only this time it isn't because of a toe joint… blood is thicker than water…'
Notes:
Another chapter done, Lilia has arrived, and now Izuku isn't handling certain things well. Also saw the new trailer for Jobless S3, and I'm excited and happy that it seems we're getting the important family stuff. Will say atm I might stop with the updates for a while when Roxy is introduced, as I want to read her side story manga before going further, more to have more material to use as this section will be important.
Special thanks to: muzzleflash for being the beta for this chapter and keeping me in line with the series lore.
