Izuku

"Congratulations!!!" Elinalise screamed as she was told about Zenith's pregnancy and pulled the now-expecting mother into a hug. "I guess it's a little blessing I said yes to looking after Izuku so many times~," the elf chuckled flirtatiously as Zenith's cheeks turned a shade redder.

The rest of the party seemed to be happy about the news to various degrees. Talhand was the least cheerful, but he still seemed to be handling his hangover. Elise, Zenith, and Ghilane were chatting together. Part of me found it funny, especially as all three had been in a physical relationship with Paul, technically my soon-to-be new father, and somehow Zenith, the one with him the shortest amount of time, was the first to carry his child.

Meanwhile, Paul was currently sitting next to me, clearly deep in thought about something, likely his impending fatherhood. I was minding my own business till Elinalise, apparently done congratulating my mother, walked over and now glared down at Paul.

"What's the plan then?" she asked. Paul let out a confused look till Elinalise gritted her teeth and kicked Paul's shin. The swordsman cried in pain as he gripped his shin and gave the elf a harsh look.

"Damn it, Elinalise! I'm thinking!" He shouted back, the elf only huffed indignantly and looked towards me, then back to Paul.

"Well, what are we going to do? As I know you're not stupid enough to take the mother of your unborn child on any type of mission and without a proper healer, we can't take most A or S-rank missions," Elinalise was right, a con of the guild ranking system, was once you reach a certain rank, you could only do jobs either a level below or above you if they thought you were capable enough. But if an A-rank party tried to do a C-rank job, they were denied. It was an effective and simple system to stop parties from taking all the jobs from newbie teams and lower ranks while stopping others from going on jobs that were too highly ranked.

'And with us as an S rank party, we can't take easier jobs.'

"Uhhhhh I know…" Paul groaned as he rubbed his shin. "I won't force Zenny to put herself or the baby in danger, and we already know the issues of looking after a kid on the road," he looked over to me before going back to my aunt. "Even before then, we can't keep dragging a pregnant woman from inn to inn as we do jobs and leave her for days on end, and we don't have a proper healer now."

"What about me? I can do healing and detoxification now!" I piped up, the two adults smiled at me, and even Paul patted my head.

"I appreciate the offer, Izuku, but Zenny would kill us for making you our healer, and you've only got two spells at the moment," Paul explained. I sadly could understand his reason. I was surprised he was this considerate, but this morning's bombshell must have had him thinking differently.

"So what's the plan?" Elinalise asked again, and Paul let out a sigh.

"A while back, I got a letter from my cousin Philip. He apparently heard about me running away from home and becoming a successful adventurer, and said he could use someone with actual skills," Paul explained. Elinalise nodded along as he explained.

Immediately, I could see potential; if it was safe, it would be perfect for Zenith during this time, and it likely had a stable income, so we wouldn't be going from job to job or hoping Gesse came up big from a night of gambling.

But…

"What about the party?" I asked, and Paul looked at me with a pained look as he sighed.

"The letter was addressed just to me, not… so it means I would need to disband the Fangs of the black wolf," he explained. For a second, it felt like everything stopped. My new family would be split apart.

Sure, I still be with Zenith and Paul, but Elinalise couldn't exactly settle down just anywhere, and no one else seemed to ever voice an interest in settling down, at least not near me. But still, I would lose so many family members in one go, and all because of something out of my control.

It was happening again, I'm losing everyone.

My thoughts were stopped as Elinalise cupped my cheek and wiped away my tears. I hadn't realised I started crying.

"Don't worry about this Izuku, I'm sure we'll see each other again, maybe give it till you turn fifteenth, come find me and I'll help you get a girl for your birthday," I burst into a fit of giggles, I wasn't a fan of Paul and Elise attitude around sex but I couldn't help myself, especially as Paul glared at his ex lover.

"Good luck with that, you know Zenny will kill you if you take Izuku near a brothel,"

"Pffftttt like I would do such a thing, adventure guilds have much better options and are less expensive for a newbie to love making,"

The pair soon got into a heated debate, as if this wasn't potentially the last time they might see each other for years. I smiled as I watched the two, yet the pain in my heart refused to go away as something rifled into my head.

Will I be forgotten?

-----------------------------------

After breaking the news to the rest of the team, we slowly packed up camp as Geese and Paul looked over a map so they could chart out the route we would take to Roa, the fortress city of the Fittoa Region to meet Paul's cousin. There, we would split the party; apparently, the others wanted to keep together for as long as possible, likely to enjoy these last few days, and to make sure Zenith and I were safe.

I helped where I could pack up the camp, mainly helping Zenith pack up our tent, mainly small things, another limitation thanks to my little body, but I tried to spend as much time with my aunt, Talhand, and Ghilane.

I wanted to get as much time as I could with my family before we parted ways. I still hated that it had to end, but I knew it must; everyone had their own lives and goals. Yet I did smile at Elise, insisting that I promise to send her a letter before I turned fifteen, so she could take me on a few adventures and maybe find a cute girl to bring home to introduce to Zenith.

The packing took longer than usual, but no one cared. Paul said it would take a couple of days to get to Roa. Before we headed out though, I was surprised when Talhand grabbed the back of my shirt and put me on his shoulder.

"There, can't expect your mother to carry you the whole way, and besides, I still need to tell you my story," Talhand smiled up at me as he told me about the time he had drunk an entire adventuring party under the table just to get them to help him with a job.

The next couple of days passed quickly, too quickly in my opinion. I was spending as much time as I could with everyone, bar Zenith and Paul. My mother voiced no complaints; likely, she knew I wanted to make the most of this time. Talhand stories made me laugh. Ghilane told me about her time at the sword sanctuary, and if I ever wished to trump Paul as a swordsman, I should go there. Elinalise taught me certain pieces of elf lore, like how they could live for hundreds of years, even if they were only half-elf or even a quarter elf, and how, apparently, it was hard for them to have kids, but the long lifespan helped give them time.

Before long, we reached the walls of Roa and were making our final farewells

"Well… this is where we part. If you guys ever need anything, just come find me. I'll do my best to help you out," Paul said, a hint of guilt in his voice.

It was well deserved, honestly, while he was taking responsibility for his libido and inability to control it. It was still the reason we're now splitting up the family. Then again… said behaviour technically was the only reason Zenith and Elinalise found me.

Speaking of Elinalise, while her usual attitude with me was the same, since confronting Paul on what he was going to do, she was giving him the cold shoulder; again, it was understandable. A sad fact about this group, we were all outcasts for our own reasons, and we had somehow become our own little found family, but it was now coming to an end because of Paul. But seeing it was ending, she let out a long sigh.

"Ok then…you take care of Izuku, Zenny, and any more kids you two make. If Zenny comes looking for me in tears. Or Izuku sends me a letter saying you cheated on her. Or you're being a horrible father. I'll race back here and make you suffer! Got it?" Elinalise made her threat clear as she poked Paul's chest. While her other hand gripped her sword, resting against her hip.

"H-heh…yeah… don't worry," Paul nervously replied. My aunt gave him a cold glare for a moment.Till she squatted down and pulled me into a tight embrace.

"You too, Izuku, keep Paul in line, be kind to your mother, and be a great big brother!" She wept, I returned the hug and nodded.

"I'll be the best big brother I can be!" My proclamation made my aunt smile through the tears.

Elinalise whipped the tears from her eyes and made her way over to Zenith, as Talhand walked over to me and patted my head.

"Keep a good head on your shoulders, boy and you'll be fine. Oh, and some advice, from one big brother to another, make sure they don't take advantage of your kindness," before I could ask for context, he said his farewells as Elinalise hugged Zenith and started following the dwarf. I giggled as I could hear the two already bickering.

Geese was a simple farewell, only wishing us well as he headed a different way from Elinalise and Talhand. Ghilane wished us good luck, and hopefully, we'll see each other again on good terms.

I stood there as I watched my aunt and uncles head off into the distance. The pain in my heart grew each time one faded into the distance, and I could feel the tears start to well up, but I held them back. After I couldn't see any of them, nor could they see me, I turned back to my mother, who carefully lifted me into her embrace and started stroking my back, then the tears flowed freely and wouldn't stop.

------------------------

Zenith

It was heartbreaking saying goodbye to everyone after almost two years together. I truly saw them as my best friends. But it was clearly hitting Izuku the hardest; it took a while before he stopped crying. Paul offered to hold him, but I shook my head; it likely would've just made things worse.

After getting ready, we walked through the city gates. I had never been to Roa before, but the difference between it and Millis was clear. While in Millis, you would frequently see holy knights and people preaching the faith of lord Millis. I only saw one preacher, and he was ignored by most of the people, aside from a handful of humans.

Soon, we headed to the Boreas estate, but before we reached the main gate, I had a thought.

"Honey, how about you talk with your cousin about the job, and I'll check out some shops with Izuku, that sound good?" Paul gave me a confused look till it finally seemed to clock inside his good looking but very vacant head.

"Oh sure, you two just don't go anywhere too shady, and I'll come find you after I sort everything out with Philp." With a farewell kiss, I headed off for the marketplace with Izuku.

The marketplace was definitely different and more varied than I expected. I saw multiple stalls selling many goods, a few were trying to sell jewellery to me, another tried to say my child would love one of the vendor's wooden swords, but I waved them off.

"Mama…" Izuku whispered as I shooed away a really persistent merchant who claimed his vegetables were the highest quality I'd ever seen. "How long do I need to wear this itchy thing?" Izuku mumbled as he scratched his head. I made sure his hood didn't move, though.

"I told you, sweetie, big cities are dangerous for you," I whispered back. Sadly, it wasn't just because he was a toddler, but his green hair would draw unwanted attention. But unlike before, a simple hat wouldn't hide the green hair. This time I didn't have Elinalise, Talhand or Ghilane nearby to jump in if someone thought Izuku was a Superd. So Paul had grabbed a small cloak from a vendor near the entrance to the city, for practically nothing, and gave it to Izuku.

Unfortunately, the quality was very poor, thus Izuku's complaining and likely the low price.

"Don't worry, sweetie, you handle this and I'll g—" Suddenly, I heard a child's scream. I looked over and was grateful it wasn't what I had thought.

"I DON'T WANT TO!!!" A boy, maybe three or four, was stomping his foot as seemingly his mother was ignoring him as she was settling down her baby girl. The mother sighed as she started heading out of the marketplace, and she calmed her baby. The boy stomped his foot till he saw his mother wasn't responding, and soon chased after her.

'She must be trying to show him a tantrum won't work on her,' I thought as I felt Izuku cling to me a bit more.

-------------------------

Izuku

'Would that happen to me?'

I shook my head as that thought wriggled into my brain, as I watched the mother walk away before her eldest started chasing after her.

'That's if Zenith keeps you around,' I shook my head again as my mind started spinning.

'You're not even her child; she just found you by the side of the road, but she's finally starting a family of her own. Hell, your new parents threw you away, and now your so-called family has left you… sound familiar?'

I shook my head a third time; my thoughts truly were spinning out of control. I felt my chest tighten for a moment until I felt Zenith gently shaking me.

"-uku, Izuku, I asked you if you wanted something to eat?"

"Huh…"

"Heh, you nod off again, don't worry, sweetie, it won't be long before Paul will be back. But remember, we got something important to do before we leave," Zenith smiled as she stroked my back. I felt the tension leave my little body.

Just then, I heard my stomach growl, and almost as if there was an echo, Zenith's stomach growled as well. The former adventure cheeks turned red and let out a giggle.

"But before Paul returns, we need a few things and most importantly lunch, you're a growing boy, and I'm eating for two. I think I saw a tavern down the street," Zenith glanced down the street filled with stalls till she seemingly saw it. Before we set off, I asked to be put down.

We got a few awws from other mothers as they watched me guiding my mother to the tavern. Said mother couldn't hold back her giggling till we eventually reached our destination.

---------------------

Paul

'God damnit, me and big mouth….'

I was cursing myself, no kicking myself. My entire life, I had burned so many bridges, although a few I gladly burn again, like with my bastard of an old man and my brother. But now, I had come crawling back to the one family member I had left on good terms with, my cousin Philip. I heard he was the mayor of Ranoa after losing a power struggle to his brother.

I was desperate, though, and I lied to Zenith, Izuku, and my whole team that I had a backup plan. But in reality, I was hoping the little cousin I used to protect and who helped me in school had enough sympathy to give me a chance.

Even though I hadn't seen him in over ten years, I showed up with nothing but my sword and adventurer card.

After Zenith had left with Izuku, I was able to convince a few guards that I was a genuine member of the Notus Greyrat family. For once, I was thankful to my brother; apparently, one guard saw the resemblance and escorted me inside.

As soon as I laid my eyes on my cousin, I got straight to the point.

"I want a stable life, give me work," I bowed my head. It wasn't the best, I know, but damn it, I couldn't beat around the bush.

I looked up, and Philp gave me a confused look, then sighed.

"Pray tell, why is the cousin who ran away, abandoning his name, family, and duties, now coming to beg for work?" Philip asked, and he gave me a curious look.

'Well, I got his interest…that's a start,'

I explained how, after I was expelled from my so-called home, I travelled across the Millis Continent and Central Continent, becoming an adventurer and forming an S-rank party. Then I told him how I had knocked up our party healer and now needed to find a more stable lifestyle for her and my unborn child. Philip casually looked around the room, then back to me.

"And where is the future mother of your child?" Philip asked, his cold stare going right through me.

"She didn't want to bring her son to the manor. He wasn't taking the fact our party broke up well and thought he would enjoy seeing the marketplace," I explained, but ensuring to leave out another reason we didn't bring Izuku, I knew the second someone saw Izuku hair, they scream demon. Suddenly, I needed to defend him and Zenith.

Philip continued to stare at me, his gaze hardening. Hell, he may have thought I was blowing smoke out my ass and wanted a cushy job. I felt my luck was about to run out.

'I can't let this go. The Asura kingdom is the best place for Izuku and my future son to be raised safely,' I swallowed a lump that had formed in my throat.

"Please! There's no one else I can turn to!" When Philip continued to stare at me, I threw my pride away and got on my hands and knees and bowed so deeply my forehead was pressing into the cold stone floor.

The next moment felt like eternity, even longer than when Zenith told me she was pregnant or when Lise had asked me what I was going to do, and I lied to her face.

"Tomas, take him-" Before Philip could finish whatever he was going to say.

"PHILP!!!!" A familiar war cry echoed through the walls that almost seemed to reverberate. I looked up as suddenly the main door burst open and my uncle, Sauros Notus Greyrat, came marching in.

My uncle was a large man, not fat like many elderly nobles; he was well built, enough that you would think he had been a barbarian adventurer in his youth. Much like my father, he had dark brown hair, but as I looked, I could see lines of white coming through, not surprising, especially as, last I heard, he was already a grandfather.

He looked down at me with a curious expression.

"Hmph, if it isn't Paul!" He shouted just like I remembered.

"Lord Sauros, it's been too long," I replied, as I readjusted my posture to be more respectful. I hated it, but I had to do it for my new family.

"Haven't you grown! It seems even now you still don't know how to act! Tell me, is this how Asuran nobility presents themselves!?" Sauros cried as he looked to me, still on my knees.

"I rather eat dir—" I cut myself off; now wasn't the time to piss off my only family. "I cut my ties to the nobility long ago, you must know this, Lord Sauros?"

"Of course I do!" Sauros screamed as he backhanded the nearby wall and cracked it. "But don't you act like that, the only reason you're in this room is because of your lineage!"

My eyes widened, but I stayed kneeling. I needed to keep calm.

"All the same, I know I'm being unreasonable…" Sauros snorted at my comment.

"You get that from your accursed father," at the mention of my father, my face twisted. I hated being compared to that bastard. We were constantly at each other's throats, which was one of the reasons I ran away, that, along with my bastard of a younger brother and the loss of my mother… in a way, Izuku was a little like me.

It's why I refused to be anything like him to Izuku and my future son.

'Man, I hope we have a son.'

Sauros went on a long rant about my old man, mainly on wine, which made some sense from what I remembered. I looked to Philip, who had a thoughtful expression, till he looked to his butler.

"Tomas, the resident knight in Buena village, was killed in a battle with monsters recently, correct?" The butler gave my cousin a crisp nod. "This man here is an experienced swordsman and adventurer; he shall have the job."

"Philip…"

"You'll be a low-ranking noble in a blackwater farming village that doesn't even have a marketplace. It will be a provincial life, that's alright with you?

"Of course! I'm forever in your debt!"

----------------

Izuku

After grabbing lunch, Zenith decided to check out some more shops. I still hated the itchy hood Paul got for me, but I kept it on for as long as possible.

The shops we saw were quite interesting. A few sold adventure gear, a couple were claiming their jewelry was from the country of Millis and the Begarient continent, and one was a bookstore, but from the little I learned about this world's currency system, we couldn't exactly afford anything good here.

'Ahhhhh, the printing press, truly, you made everything so much easier in the long run,' I sent a silent prayer to the inventor.

Zenith and I did have fun looking over a few; sadly, the magic ones were either the ones we already had or locked behind a glass case. The owner said they weren't for casual reading and were far too expensive for us. Eventually, though, Zenith got her hands on a cheap book on botany, and she was hoping to rekindle an old love from her childhood in caring for plants. I giggled at the idea of a little Zenith tending to a flower.

Soon, we had found our way outside the adventurers' guild, and Zenith was looking at it with a sad smile.

"Mama…are you okay?" I asked, tugging her arm to help get her attention, and she turned and giggled.

"Oh, it's nothing, just… this might be the last time I am near an adventure guild." Her free hand passed over her stomach, as if feeling for her growing child.

I felt another shiver go down my spine. This was getting more confusing by the day.

"But my time as an adventurer will always remain precious, I'm ready for a new chapter of my life," she glanced back down to her stomach and then to me. "Izuku…would you ever want to be an adventurer?"

That… was a good question.

I mean, I knew a fair amount about the field of adventuring, and heck, my aunt's promise seemed to be saying she'll take on a few jobs. But yet, I remember my oldest dream, to be a hero, and in a way, an adventurer could be a hero, depending on the job and what they did.

Besides, I was already learning magic from Zenith and potentially swordsmanship from Paul, so it makes sense to follow in their footsteps

"I think… I'd like to try," I answered. Zenith seemed to like my answer as she patted my head.

"Well, I know I don't need to worry about one thing, you won't be like Paul and start chasing skirts the second you can," Zenith burst out in laughter as I pretended to heave.

I couldn't see myself doing that, besides being a skirt chaser, pretty sure you need good looks and confidence. Two things I most certainly lacked in my past life and most likely will here as well.

"Nuh ugh, I wouldn't do that!" My proclamation got a standing ovation from my mother as she clapped her hands.

"What wouldn't you do?" caught off guard, Zenith and I turned to see Paul. He looked at us with a curious expression.

"I'm just making sure Izuku doesn't grow up to be another Paul Greyrat. I'm worried enough about our own child and how much they'll take after you." Zenith's explanation made Paul step back in shock.

"And what's wrong with me?!" He bellowed his question, then proceeded to draw his sword and tried to pose heroically. "I'm an S-class swordsman who was able to turn a team of misfits into near legends!"

"And who got said team kicked out of several inns, towns, three guild halls, and one church," Zenith chuckled as she recited her mental list.

"I still can't believe how angry that priest got," I added, failing to hold in my laughter, as I remembered Paul getting chased out of a Millis church by the priest as he waved a candlestick at him. Paul lost his heroic energy as he looked at us.

"I told you, I didn't mean to get that nun to proclaim her love for me; I can't help my natural charm." Paul's attempt at dodging the blame made Zenith giggle as she kissed her lover.

"Well then, how did everything go then?"

"Huh… oh sorry hehe, but it's sorted. I'll be taking up the role of resident knight in a small farming village. It's called Buena village. It comes with a home and a steady income. The only drawback is no market, but we can easily get what we need with a trip back here or travelling merchants."

"Ohhhh, I can't wait to see this place," Zenith smiled as she jumped into Paul's embrace.

I couldn't help but agree with my mother. It sounded brilliant, a little too good, but Paul had some strange luck, maybe it just was better since starting his journey into fatherhood, then again, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a few kids running around already.

"Well, before we leave for our new home, there's something we need to do first," Paul laughed before twirling Zenith around. She let out a cry as she was spun around.

-----------------------------------------

Before I knew it, we were in the local Millis church, withPaul and my mother exchanging vows, becoming husband and wife. The resident priest was nice enough to do a rush wedding for the young couple, and I was the only one in attendance in the front row. Thankfully, the priest never asked me to remove my hood, so we avoided a potential religious rant.

I looked to my mother at the altar, as she recited her vows, she looked like she was on the verge of tears, which just made me realise Elinalise was right, my mother was in love.

Then something hit me.

'Wait, oh no, that means I'm now a Greyrat,' I thought, technically yes, I would be a Greyrat. Due to Zenith being my adopted mother, and now married to Paul. If we based it on my previous world, I would be one.

'Oh no… my "father" is the biggest womaniser I know.'

I watched as the ceremony unfolded, the priest handed Paul what looked to be some sort of necklace. He placed it around Zenith's neck, after a moment she kissed his forehead.

'Another reminder I'm no longer in Japan, yet… It's honestly quite sweet. I just hope Paul keeps his word, for Zenith's sake

Zenith hugged her new husband, who responded by twirling his blushing bride around the altar. The priest chuckled and wished the two a happy life together, and gave me a nod before he went off to do something. After carefully putting Zenith down, Paul walked over to the front row and kneeled in front of me.

"So ready to head out, son?" His question only got a pout from me.

"Yes…Paul…" I muttered, Paul froze in shock as he looked at me with his mouth wide open, Zenith laughed at the sight before walking over and kissing her husband's cheek.

"Don't worry, sweetie. Izuku just needs time. And think of this as your next challenge: get Izuku to call you father." Zenith took Paul's hand and then mine as she led us out of the church.

An obvious spring in her step as the next part of our lives began.

Notes:

The Fang of The Black Wolf has split up, and now Izuku is feeling alone again. Definitely not Izuku's happiest moment, though happy I'm getting closer to the first episode. Though I still have some stuff planned before we meet the most perverted baby in recent anime, I will say atm debating stopping the fic when I reach a certain point to finish reading Roxy gets serious manga, as it seems great for extra material and to expand her time in Buena village. Also means I can bulk up my backlog a bit more and get more planning done.

Special thanks to: muzzleflash for being the beta for this chapter and keeping me in line with the series lore.
