Abaddon moved like a storm.
His sword clashed against Ottar's blade, the impact sending shockwaves through the chamber. Before the echo faded, his spear was already in his other hand, thrusting toward Riveria's chest. She deflected it with a wall of ice, but the force cracked the barrier.
Ryuu darted in, her kodachi aiming for his exposed side. Abaddon dropped the spear and caught her blade with the shaft of his hammer, twisting it from her grip. She rolled away, retrieving her weapon as she rose.
Cassandra's arrows flew...three in rapid succession. Abaddon's bow appeared in his hand before the first arrow reached him. He knocked them aside with a single sweep, then fired a return shot that nearly took Cassandra's head off.
Ottar pressed forward again. Abaddon's axe met his sword. The two clashed...strength versus skill, raw power against accumulated experience.
Riveria's staff crackled with energy. "He is adapting," she called out. "Every move we make, he learns."
Ryuu retrieved her kodachi and circled. "Then we need to make moves he cannot predict."
Abaddon smiled beneath his helmet. "Predictable," he said. "All of you. So predictable."
He spun, his weapons moving in a blur. Sword, spear, axe, hammer, bow...each one appearing and disappearing in a seamless dance of destruction.
Ottar charged again, his massive blade descending in an overhead arc. Abaddon met it with his hammer, the impact driving Ottar's arms downward. Before Ottar could recover, Abaddon's fist, still holding the hammer's shaft, drove into his ribs.
The crack echoed through the chamber.
Ottar staggered back, blood trickling from his mouth. Three ribs. Maybe four. He had felt worse.
He forced himself forward, his sword carving toward Abaddon's shoulder. The demon tried to dodge, but Ottar was faster than he expected. The blade bit deep, slicing through armor and flesh. Black ichor sprayed across the floor.
Abaddon's smile widened.
"Good," he said. "That was good."
He raised his hammer to strike again.
Riveria slammed her staff into the ground. Ice erupted from the floor, spreading toward Abaddon's feet. The demon glanced down, then brought his axe down in a single, brutal swing. The ice shattered, chunks flying in every direction.
But in that moment of distraction, Cassandra's arrows flew.
Three shafts aimed directly at Abaddon's eyes. He raised his bow, deflecting two. The third grazed his cheek. He turned to face her
Ryuu moved.
Cassandra's buffs surged through her...enhanced speed, enhanced reflexes, enhanced perception. She crossed the distance in a heartbeat, her kodachi slashing across the same shoulder Ottar had wounded.
The cut deepened. The arm went limp. Abaddon's hammer clattered to the ground.
He looked at his severed arm, then at the four adventurers surrounding him.
"You cut off my arm," he said, his voice eerily calm.
Then he moved.
He dropped his bow. His massive hand shot out and slammed into Ryuu's gut. She gasped, blood spraying from her mouth. Her body flew across the chamber, crashing into the far wall with enough force to crack the stone.
She slid to the ground, crumpled, barely conscious.
Ottar roared.
He grabbed Abaddon's fallen hammer and swung it downward with all his strength. The massive weapon crashed toward Abaddon's skull. The demon raised his remaining arm to block...the impact shattered bone and sent him stumbling.
Two weapons gone. Two arms disabled.
But Abaddon was not finished.
He grabbed his axe and sword with his remaining hand..one in each grip, wielding them with a fury that seemed to multiply his strength. He charged at Ottar, his blades a blur of motion.
Ottar blocked, dodged, parried...but barely. Each strike drove him backward. Each blow chipped away at his defenses.
Cassandra's buffs kept him standing. Stamina. Vitality. Endurance. They flowed into him like a river, keeping him alive against the storm.
But it was not enough.
Ryuu rose.
Her body screamed in protest. Broken ribs. Internal bleeding. But she forced herself to her feet.
She moved while Abaddon was focused on Ottar. She leaped onto his back, her kodachi driving into his eye.
Abaddon screamed.
He dropped his sword, grabbed her with his remaining hand, and slammed her into the ground. The impact broke more ribs. He raised his foot to crush her skull.
Riveria dove forward. Her barrier flared to life between them, absorbing the blow. She used her wind magic to push Ryuu away, sliding her across the ground to safety.
Abaddon smashed through the barrier with his remaining arm. His hand closed around the kodachi still embedded in his eye. He pulled it free, black ichor streaming down his face.
He threw the blade at Ryuu.
It pierced her eye.
She screamed—a sound of pure agony—and collapsed.
Abaddon laughed.
He turned to face the others, his one eye blazing with triumph.
Then he felt the blade in his heart.
Ottar stood behind him, his greatsword driven through Abaddon's back, piercing through his chest. The demon looked down at the tip protruding from his sternum. Black ichor bubbled from his mouth.
"You..." he whispered.
Ottar twisted the blade. Abaddon's body went slack.
The demon fell.
Silence.
Ottar pulled his sword free and collapsed to his knees. Riveria slumped against the wall, her staff clattering beside her. Ryuu lay still, blood pooling beneath her.
Cassandra rushed forward, her hands already glowing with healing magic. She knelt beside Ryuu first, pressing her palms against the wound on her face. The bleeding slowed. The damage began to mend.
But it was not enough. Not nearly enough.
Ottar's breathing was ragged. Riveria's eyes were closed.
Cassandra worked. She would not stop. She could not stop.
She had to save them. All of them.
...
Damien smashed into the first castle he could see, wanting to find the others.
And he did.
But they did not look like they needed him.
"Damien..." Ais said, her golden eyes softening.
"DAMIEN!" Tiona rushed forward and gave him a big hug, her arms wrapping around him tightly.
Tione rushed toward him too, a grin on her face. "You missed out. We beat the fuck out of these two demons. They said they represented Wrath or whatever the fuck."
Tiona pulled back, bouncing on her heels. "YUP! Ais literally drove her sword through the skull of one of them!"
Damien raised an eyebrow and looked at Ais. "Well... damn. That is pretty good." He glanced around the chamber. "Anyway, have you seen the others?"
Tione shook her head. "No. Not since we got here."
Damien's expression tightened. "Well... shit. It means you were split among the seven sins. I fought the ones who represented Lust." He set Tiona down and turned to leave. "So the others might be facing the remaining. Let us go help them."
"WAIT!" Tione grabbed his arm. "Lust! LUST!" Her eyes widened. "WAS IT A WOMAN!"
