Anya's spear clashed against Belial's, the impact sending sparks across the dim chamber. She gritted her teeth, pushing against his strength...even with her debuff magic weakening him, he was still a formidable opponent.
Chloe darted around the edges of the fight, her daggers Violetta gleaming in the low light. She was fast, almost too fast to track, her cat-like agility allowing her to appear and disappear in the shadows.
"Come on, nya!" Anya taunted, spinning her spear to deflect another thrust. "Is that all the Escapist Sloth has?"
Belial grinned, his four horns gleaming. "You talk too much, cat."
He lunged forward, his spear moving in a blur. Anya barely parried in time, the force of the blow sending her skidding backward. Before she could recover, Belial was already on her, his spear raining down a flurry of strikes.
Chloe struck from the shadows.
Her daggers aimed for his exposed back. Belial sensed her, twisting at the last moment to avoid the killing blow. One dagger grazed his side, drawing a thin line of black ichor.
"Close," he admitted. "But close is not enough."
He spun, his spear sweeping toward Chloe's legs. She leaped over it, flipping in midair, and landed in a crouch.
Anya charged again. Her spear thrust toward his chest. Belial deflected it with his own, then used the momentum to spin around and elbow her in the face. She staggered back, blood dripping from her split lip.
Chloe came from the side. Belial blocked her daggers with the shaft of his spear. They struggled, locked in a contest of strength, before he shoved her away.
"You two are persistent," Belial said, his voice almost admiring. "But persistence alone will not save you."
He attacked again, his spear becoming a whirlwind of steel. Anya and Chloe moved together, their years of working side by side allowing them to anticipate each other's movements. When one dodged, the other pressed the attack. When one faltered, the other covered.
Anya feinted left, then drove her spear toward Belial's throat. He blocked it, but Chloe was already there, her daggers slicing across his arm. He grunted, more annoyed than injured, and kicked out, catching Chloe in the stomach.
She flew backward, crashing into a pillar. Anya screamed, her spear flashing with renewed fury. Belial parried, dodged, and countered, forcing her onto the defensive.
Chloe rose, coughing. She wiped blood from her mouth and moved again.
This time, she activated Pheles Cruz.
Two mirages of herself appeared beside her, moving in perfect synchronization. Belial's eyes darted between the three forms, trying to find the real one.
"Clever," he admitted.
Anya attacked from the front. The real Chloe came from the left. The mirages flanked him.
Belial spun, his spear knocking away Anya's thrust. He ducked under Chloe's daggers, grabbed her arm, and threw her into one of her mirages. Both dissolved into nothing. She rolled across the ground, clutching her shoulder.
"You rely too much on tricks," Belial said.
Anya lunged again, her spear aimed at his heart. Belial caught it with his free hand, the blade stopping inches from his chest. He pulled, dragging Anya forward, and slammed his forehead into hers.
She fell, dazed.
Belial raised his spear to finish her.
Chloe moved.
She appeared behind him, her daggers driving into the back of his knee. He stumbled, his thrust going wide. Anya rolled away, scrambling to her feet.
Belial turned, his eyes blazing with anger. "You..."
Chloe grinned, her green eyes gleaming. "What? Did you forget about the Black Cat?"
She attacked again, her daggers flashing. Belial met her blow for blow, his spear moving with surprising speed. But Chloe was faster, her assassin's reflexes allowing her to slip inside his guard.
She stabbed him in the throat.
Black ichor sprayed across her face. Belial stumbled back, clutching his neck, his eyes wide with shock. Anya was already there, her spear driving into his heart.
Belial fell.
He hit the ground, his body twitching, then went still.
Anya and Chloe stood over him, breathing hard.
"We did it," Anya said.
Chloe nodded. "Yeah. We...."
A scream of pure rage echoed through the chamber.
They turned.
Dagon's massive form was writhing in agony, one of his eyes pierced by Akizuki's blade. But as they watched, something began to change.
Four pairs of massive wings erupted from his back, their membranes crackling with electricity. Lightning arced across his body, striking the walls, the ceiling, the floor. His size increased, his form becoming more monstrous, more terrible.
Dagon rose to his full height, his voice a thunderous roar.
"YOU... WILL...ALL... SLEEP... IN... DEATH!"
The lightning struck
...
"What! Are you not curious if the demons of lust were girls or not?" Tione pressed, her eyes narrowing. "And if Damien had some fun with them?"
Damien kept walking. "I did no such thing."
"Yeah, but you are dodging the facts here." Tione hurried to keep pace with him. "Were they girls... or not?"
"It was a man and a woman." Damien's voice was flat.
Tione's eyes lit up. "SO HOW HOT WAS SHE? Zero to ten—zero being Tiona and ten being me!"
"WE LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME!" Tiona shouted.
"Yes, which is why you being a zero is crazy," Tione replied without missing a beat.
"Girls..." Damien started.
Lightning struck one of the castles.
He turned to them. "Let us go!"
They rushed toward the castle, breaking through a massive wall to enter.
Inside, they saw Chloe, Anya, Hogni, and Akizuki struggling on the back foot, being pushed away by the massive monster. Lightning struck randomly around the chamber. A thick fog rolled across the floor, clinging to their ankles.
Ais's golden eyes narrowed. "The fog... it induces sleep."
"Yes." Damien's gaze swept the chamber. "I see why they are all struggling."
He turned to the trio. "You girls help the others. I will take care of the big guy."
Suddenly, Damien was in Dagon's face. His fist connected with the monster's skull, the impact sending shockwaves through the chamber. Dagon screamed—a sound of pure rage and pain.
Damien's daggers materialized in his hands.
Lightning arced from the sky. He dodged it. Dagon's massive hand swiped at him. He ducked under it, his blades carving deep into the monster's scaly neck. Black ichor gushed from the wound.
"That... was for hurting my people."
He moved again, faster than the eye could track. He appeared behind Dagon, his daggers slashing across the remaining side of the monster's neck. The two wounds connected.
Dagon's head rolled from his body.
The massive form crashed to the ground, lightning fading from its flesh.
Damien landed next to the others, his blades already sheathed. "Well... that is that."
