Belphegor stood up.
His massive, bloated body towered over them, his stomach hanging low, his arms thick as tree trunks. For a moment, he simply stood there, breathing heavily, his eyes locked on the group that had killed his friend.
Then he summoned a rapier.
The blade appeared in his hand—thin, elegant, completely at odds with his grotesque frame. He held it with surprising grace, his fingers wrapping around the hilt like a master swordsman.
He moved.
His body was slow, lumbering, but his hands moved like lightning. The rapier shot forward, aimed directly at Samira's throat. She barely deflected it, the blade scraping against her greatsword.
"What the..." Aisha started.
Belphegor's hand blurred again. The rapier struck toward her chest. She dove aside, rolling to her feet.
Lunoire's eyes widened. "How is he that fast?!"
Belphegor grinned, his fat face splitting into a hideous smile. "You think fat means slow?"
He lunged again, his rapier dancing through the air. Royland summoned a fireball...massive, red, crackling with power...and hurled it at the demon.
Belphegor raised his free hand. A dark flame circle erupted from his palm, meeting Royland's fireball head-on. The two spells collided, red and black, and exploded in a burst of heat and smoke.
When the smoke cleared, Belphegor was still standing.
Lunoire grinned.
She charged forward, her fists raised. "Royland! The flame circle!"
Royland nodded, his staff already glowing. "Flame Grant Me Strength!"
A red aura washed over the group. For the next ten minutes, flames would do nothing to them.
Lunoire reached Belphegor. His rapier shot toward her face. She ducked, twisted, and weaved around the blade like a dancer. She was a blur of motion—her body flowing around each strike, her fists finding openings in his defenses.
She punched his stomach.
He laughed. "Fool! I have the Godskin! Your blows mean nothing!"
Lunoire smiled. "I was not trying to hurt you."
Samira and Aisha appeared on either side of Belphegor. Their greatswords swung in unison, slamming into his fat neck from both directions. They pushed with all their strength, their blades carving through flesh, bone, and sinew.
Belphegor's eyes went wide.
His head flew from his shoulders, spinning through the air before landing at Lunoire's feet.
She placed her foot on top of it and looked down at the demon's lifeless face.
"So much for the Godskin...Perhaps if you were a Duo you'd be threatening"
....
Belial clashed spears with Anya, his movements still sharp despite the effects of Remiste Felis lowering his stats. She gritted her teeth, pushing against his strength, her spear straining against his.
Chloe leaped from behind, her daggers aimed at his back. Belial twisted, grabbing Anya and throwing her into Chloe's path. The two women collided, tumbling across the ground.
But Hogni was already there.
His blade drove into Belial's back, piercing through flesh and muscle. The demon grunted, more annoyed than injured. He spun, his elbow smashing into Hogni's face, sending him stumbling back.
Belial raised his spear to finish Hogni.
Akizuki's katana met his spear, locking the weapons together. The samurai's eyes were cold, focused.
Belial grinned, studying him. "You smell weaker than the others."
He shoved forward, his strength overwhelming Akizuki's guard. The samurai flew backward, crashing into Dagon—the fish-like demon who had been hanging from the ceiling.
Dagon's eyes snapped open. His massive, fish-like body stirred.
"Belial..." His voice was a low, rumbling growl. "I want SLEEP."
Belial smiled. "They want to prevent your sleep. Will you allow that?"
Dagon's eyes widened. "MY SLEEP! THEY DARE!"
He stood to his full height, his massive form towering over everyone. Lightning crackled around his body, his rage building with every passing second.
"DEATH!" he screamed.
Belial turned back to Chloe and Anya, who had just recovered.
"Did I mention that Dagon was also qualified to be the Wrath Sin?" He shrugged. "But he failed because he liked sleep. When he loses his chance to sleep..." His grin widened. "Well. Enjoy."
Dagon charged.
His massive body smashed into the ground, sending cracks spiderwebbing across the floor. Lightning erupted from him, arcing across the chamber. He moved like a juggernaut, destroying everything in his path.
Chloe shouted orders. "Hogni! Akizuki! Handle Dagon! Anya and I will take Belial!"
Hogni and Akizuki moved, positioning themselves between Dagon and the others. The fish demon roared and charged again.
Chloe and Anya turned to face Belial.
...
Gareth swung his axe again, carving through the air where Beelzebub had been a moment before. The massive fly demon split apart, his body dissolving into a thousand smaller flies that scattered across the chamber, laughing with a thousand tiny voices.
Lefiya's teeth ground together. "Arcs Rays!"
Eight beams of light erupted from her staff—each one a different color, each one tracking the swarm. They weaved through the air, homing in on the flies. Eight of them died. Beelzebub reformed, laughing, and spat a ball of acid toward her.
Gareth moved.
He threw himself in front of Lefiya, his body glowing with the power of Ardigalea. The acid splashed against his chest, sizzling against his enhanced endurance. He grunted but did not fall.
"You will have to do better than that, fly!" he roared, swinging his axe upward.
Beelzebub split again.
Gareth staggered forward as the flies swarmed past him, trying to reform behind him. Daphne arrived, her daggers slashing at the reforming body, but he disconnected once more, his pieces scattering across the chamber.
Lefiya watched from a distance. Her hands tightened on her staff. Her eyes burned.
"Gareth!" she shouted. "Can you hold him somewhere? Just for a second! I need seconds!"
Gareth laughed—a deep, booming sound. "Finally angry, lass?"
He turned to Daphne. "Distract him!"
Daphne nodded. She darted forward, her daggers flashing, keeping Beelzebub's attention. He split and reformed, split and reformed, toying with her.
Gareth raised his axe and slammed it into the ground.
"Earth Raid!"
The floor shook. An earthquake ripped through the chamber, sending rocks and debris flying into the air. Gareth swung his axe, not at Beelzebub, but at the rocks. He sent them flying—five on each side—forming a box of stone around the fly demon.
Beelzebub's eyes widened. He tried to split. The rocks were too close. Too tight.
He was trapped.
Daphne screamed. "MOVE!"
Gareth dove aside. Daphne rolled away.
Lefiya raised her staff.
"Fusillade Fallarica!"
Flames erupted from her staff—fire so hot it could melt stone, limited to attacking only the targets in front of her. And Beelzebub was directly in front of her.
Trapped. Unable to escape. Unable to split.
The flames devoured him. No matter how many times he tried to scatter, the fire was there, consuming every piece, burning every fragment.
Beelzebub screamed.
Then he was gone.
Lefiya lowered her staff, breathing hard. She looked at the ash where the fly demon had stood.
"I hate... flies."
Gareth laughed, clapping her on the shoulder. "Remind me not to piss you off, lass."
