Karolo's POV
They were happy when they heard my words. Their names were Dan and Vanda Ciercello and Eun-woo Bardales. Dan and Vanda were 20 and 19, while Eun-woo (nice Korean first name) was 22. I wanted to fight this war with the Order of the Deathcallers, and I needed gear.
"I'll scavenge for gear and weapons from our dead comrades," Vanda promised.
Meanwhile, a man in an apron handed me my laptop. "I believed this is yours…" I was stunned when I held that solid thing. It looked fixed, and I asked, "What happened to this?" Vanda came forward and admitted, "When I stabbed you in the back with my Deathcaller Sword, it also pierced your backpack that was on the back, and that also included your precious laptop and a few notebooks."
I then had a flashback to it.
Because of that, I replied to them, "I see then. It's okay, guys. Now, let's fend off these former dark comrades of yours." Vanda, Dan, and Eun-woo were hyped out on their first service with me (rather than for me). The man with an apron and his wife, Cristostòm and Sofia Clemente, remained in the basement for safety as the rest of us headed up to the battlefield of Darkhtan City. I can tell they had a prayer to the gods of this world for their only son, who was a soldier for the kingdom of Steein.
Now in the chaotic battlefield of debris, bullets, magic, and blood, Dan found one dead soldier for the Deathcaller Order. The soldier's suit was a bit torn up but still wearable. It seemed to be a specialized, form-fitting tactical compression suit in a deep shade of charcoal grey. The fabric is a reinforced, cut-resistant weave designed to manage body temperature and minimize the chaffing under heavy plate carriers. The tactical bulletproof vest was worn directly over the suit, and it was a heavy-duty, modular plate carrier in pitch black. This rig provides vital organ protection and is heavily outfitted with MOLLE-compatible attachment points. The sigil of the Deathcaller Order is prominently displayed on the upper right chest. This rig seemed to be robust, unique, and tactical.
As Dan picked the cadaver up and Vanda took the weapons away from the dead soldier of darkness, I noticed a couple more features of the first potential attire for me:
The tactical beret was in black and red, positioned with precise discipline. Woven into the front is a striking, stylized metal buckle featuring a red 'X' pattern, which likely means demise for those who fell victim to those who wore it.
A breathable, form-fitting tactical balaclava in black covers the lower face, offering significant anonymity and a degree of dust and smoke protection. This fits seamlessly with the soldier's tactical goggles, creating a sealed and silent environmental profile anywhere.
An integrated, advanced communications headset (or comms loop) is worn over the ear, with a small boom microphone positioned at the cheek. This system allows efficient communication and encrypted connection.
Worn over tactical sleeves, the operative has full-fingered dark grey combat gloves with reinforced knuckles and horizontal palms.
Held by the dead soldier with practised discipline is a modern, modular assault rifle (M4-style platform) with a silencer. It is customised with a tactical foregrip, an advanced holographic or red-dot optic, and an adjustable stock (bullets in this world were unlimited thanks to a god-given ability known as Unlimited Ammunition by the god of guns, Arme).
An integrated, tactical wrist-mounted data pad is visible on the left forearm, showing a glowing white and blue interface, much like a status monitor for navigation and targeting hostiles.
The tactical suit continues down the legs, reinforced at the knees with integrated, composite, and hard impact pads.
A padded tactical belt secures a double-strap drop-leg platform on the right thigh, and it holds a pistol and a few grenades. This rig holds a quick-access mag pouch for primary rifle magazine replacements (because gun magazines need maintenance).
And finally, the attire was topped off with a pair of high-quality, black, waterproof combat boots with aggressive zigzag patterns, optimised for all-terrain footfall.
However, as Eun-woo would point out, the soldier rank of the Deathcaller Order was diverse in tactical attire. So, Dan and Vanda took the attire and the rest of the useful equipment from the cadaver, and Dan tossed the body out of the way. I then wore the new attire nicely with all of its components and put on the tactical balaclava. I then tore the sigil off the front to signify that I possessed this attire and held the gun, ready to fight off the Deathcaller Order with Vanda, Dan, and Eun-woo.
