Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: A Test Beyond Strength

The morning sun rose gently over the Ancient Masters Village, casting a golden glow across the rooftops and training grounds. The village was alive as always—merchants opening their stalls, ninjas preparing for missions, and students rushing toward the mission hall.

Kaelen stood quietly in front of the large wooden board where missions were posted. His eyes scanned the scrolls carefully, not with excitement, but with focus.

This was no longer about becoming a ninja.

He already was one.

Now… it was about becoming stronger.

Footsteps approached from behind.

"All serious again?" Allan's voice came with a light laugh.

Kaelen glanced at him.

"Just thinking. Our last mission was simple… but it showed something."

Taro stretched his arms as he joined them.

"Yeah, that even a simple mission can be annoying."

Kaito stood slightly behind, calm as always.

"It showed that we lack coordination."

Kaelen nodded slightly.

"Exactly."

Before they could continue, a village officer walked into the hall, holding several scrolls.

"Attention, E-rank teams."

The room quickly quieted.

"New missions have been assigned. Teams will be rearranged for each mission."

Taro sighed.

"Again…"

The officer began calling names.

"Kaelen… Allan… Mira… Ren."

Kaelen stepped forward and accepted the scroll.

Taro crossed his arms.

"Guess I'm not in this one."

Kaito gave a small nod.

"We'll meet later."

Allan smiled.

"Don't worry, we'll bring back a good result."

Kaelen turned toward Mira and Ren, who were already waiting.

Mira spoke first, her tone confident.

"Looks like we're teammates this time."

Ren simply nodded.

Kaelen said "Nice to meet you", let's do the mission together and bring success.

"And let's not waste time anymore.

Kaelen opened the scroll.

📜 Mission Details

Rank: E

Objective: Deliver medical supplies to a northern hill training outpost

Difficulty: Low

Warning: Narrow terrain, proceed carefully

Kaelen rolled the scroll back up.

"This isn't a combat mission."

Allan smiled.

"Good. Let's try to complete it perfectly."

Ren added quietly,

"Perfection requires discipline."

Mira adjusted the supply pack.

"Then let's move."

The Journey Begins

The four of them left the village gates and began their journey north.

The path quickly changed from flat roads to rocky terrain. The air became cooler, and the sounds of the village slowly faded behind them.

Kaelen walked ahead, his eyes constantly scanning the surroundings.

Allan walked beside him.

"You're more serious than before."

Kaelen replied calmly,

"Because now mistakes matter more."

Mira followed behind them, carefully carrying the medical supplies.

"We can't afford to damage these."

Ren walked at the back, watching everything silently.

After some time, the path narrowed as they reached the hills.

Steep slopes rose on both sides, and the ground became uneven.

Allan looked down the slope.

"That's a long fall…"

Mira stopped.

"This part looks dangerous."

In front of them was a narrow cliffside path—barely wide enough for one person.

Kaelen turned back.

"We cross one by one. Slowly."

Ren nodded.

"I'll go last."

Kaelen stepped forward first, carefully placing each step on spot.

The wind blew slightly, making the path feel even more unstable.

"Follow my steps," Kaelen said.

Allan came next, trying to stay steady.

Halfway through, his foot slipped slightly.

"Ah—!"

Before he could fall from the cliff, Kaelen grabbed his arm firmly.

"Don't panic."

Allan steadied himself.

"…Thanks."

Mira crossed next, holding the supplies tightly.

Ren followed last, his steps precise and controlled.

Once they reached the other side, everyone exhaled.

"That was close," Allan said.

Kaelen looked ahead.

"We're not done yet."

The Unexpected Obstacle are still there.

After walking further, they suddenly stopped.

The path ahead was blocked.

Large rocks had fallen, completely sealing the route.

Mira frowned.

"This wasn't in the mission."

Ren stepped forward and touched one of the rocks.

"These fell recently."

Allan looked confused.

"So what now? Go back?"

Kaelen shook his head.

"No. That would waste too much time."

He looked around carefully.

"There must be another way."

Mira pointed toward a steep slope beside the blocked path.

"We could climb around… but it's risky."

Kaelen thought for a moment, then he nodded.

"We take that route."

Climbing Together

The slope was unstable, filled with loose stones.

Kaelen went first again, testing each step.

"Only step where I step."

Mira followed, carefully balancing the supply pack.

Allan came after her, trying not to slip.

Ren stayed behind, watching everyone.

Suddenly, stones began to slide.

Mira lost her footing slightly.

"I'm slipping—!"

Before she could fall, Ren quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her back.

"Stay focused."

Mira steadied herself.

"…Thank you."

Kaelen turned back.

"Everyone okay?"

"Yes," they replied.

Step by step, they climbed higher.

It was slow, exhausting, and dangerous.

But no one rushed.

No one panicked.

Finally, they reached stable ground again.

Allan dropped to the ground, breathing heavily.

"That… was worse than fighting."

Kaelen allowed a small smile.

"Because this required control."

Mission Completion

After another long walk, they finally saw the outpost.

A small wooden structure stood near the hilltop.

A senior ninja stepped out as they approached.

"You're the delivery team?"

Kaelen handed over the supplies.

"Yes."

The ninja checked everything carefully.

After a moment, he nodded.

"All supplies are intact. Good work."

Mira sighed in relief.

"We made it."

Ren looked satisfied.

"The mission is complete."

The Return

On their way back, the tension was gone.

The path felt easier now.

Allan smiled.

"We actually did well."

Mira nodded.

"Better than expected."

Ren added,

"No mistakes."

Kaelen looked ahead at the distant village.

"This is how it should be."

Allan looked at him.

"What do you mean?"

Kaelen replied,

"No fighting. No panic. Just teamwork."

As the Ancient Masters Village came into view, Kaelen felt something change inside him.

This mission was simple.

But it taught something important.

Strength alone was not enough.

A true ninja needed control… awareness… and trust.

And for the first time—

Kaelen felt like they were truly becoming a team.
