Chapter 359 - Chapter 359: If You Give, You Gain

"Ugh—"

The powerful centrifugal force made Silas's face turn noticeably pale.

The main reason was that Blaziken changed direction far too fast and far too suddenly—he hadn't been prepared at all.

But by the same logic, since even he hadn't been ready, the furious Ursaring behind them had even less chance of reacting.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sounds of trees being smashed apart rang out one after another.

Silas tilted his head and glanced back again.

Not bad, only two more had joined compared to before.

A bitter smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.

There was no helping it. Ursaring were simply far too strong.

Every tree trunk blocking their path had been snapped clean in half.

This was also Ursaring's favorite way of searching for Berries in their daily lives.

It seemed that only trees exceptionally thick could withstand the rampage of enraged Ursaring.

Silas looked ahead.

"Keep going."

This time, his voice was much clearer.

Blaziken even had enough stamina left to nod in understanding.

Over the next five minutes, Silas truly experienced what it felt like to be a Formula One racer.

Just with a much more agile "vehicle."

And the results were good.

At this point, only four Ursaring remained chasing Silas and Blaziken.

However, three of them were at Pesudo–Elite-level strength.

Fight them?

Silas frowned.

He and his partners could handle it, but the time delay and the commotion from battle would definitely attract another wave.

That would turn into an endless cycle.

There was no way Blaziken could just carry him at full sprint all the way out of the forest.

With pursuers behind them, finding a proper route out of the forest would take at least another half hour.

Whether Blaziken could endure it aside, even Silas's physical conditioning wouldn't hold up under that kind of punishment.

After all, he wasn't wearing any protective gear.

As for hoping that other wild Pokémon would block the Ursaring for him, that was pure wishful thinking.

In this forest, Ursaring were the absolute rulers. Even the forest bullies, Beedrill, avoided provoking them.

Silas's mind raced.

At this point, there seemed to be only one option left.

He clenched his teeth and reached into his backpack with his left hand.

A transparent container filled with a yellow, viscous liquid appeared in his grasp.

It was Honey that Silas had previously collected in Heracross Forest.

Although he had indeed prepared it specifically for situations like this, he still felt a pang of heartache.

If only he hadn't taken this route.

This was all because of the bastard tailing him from behind.

A trace of irritation flashed through Silas's eyes. Once he caught that guy, he was definitely going to make him pay.

"Before that, go ahead and enjoy yourselves."

Silas casually tossed the container onto the ground beside the path.

Smack.

Contradictory as it was, a rich, sickly-sweet fragrance instantly flooded the noses of both humans and Pokémon.

The sound of paws scraping against the ground rang out.

The four Ursaring that had just rushed past the container suddenly stopped, noses twitching.

Their eyes locked tightly onto the yellow liquid.

"Slurp—"

Silas could even see one of them drooling—

Though it immediately sucked it back in.

"ROAR!"

The Ursaring let out consecutive roars before charging forward again.

This time, however, their target was no longer Silas and Blaziken—

It was the Honey.

"Holy crap…"

Silas was so shocked that even slang from his past life slipped out.

The way these Ursaring fought each other was downright brutal.

Their thick, powerful paws slammed into one another with dull, thunderous impacts.

Silas and Blaziken watched, their eyelids twitching uncontrollably.

This was the advantage of sheer size.

In a one-on-one battle, Ursaring definitely wouldn't be Blaziken's match.

But when it came to environmental destruction, Ursaring were top-tier wrecking crews.

Silas had never expected Honey to be this effective on Ursaring.

In truth, he was overthinking it.

Timing played a major role.

Honey had extra attraction for Ursaring during both mating season and birthing season.

In the latter case, it helped replenish energy for producing offspring.

As for the former—

Part of it was for stamina recovery, but the bigger reason was to attract mates.

A male Ursaring carrying Honey was basically a diamond bachelor, capable of drawing in far more female Ursaring.

Of course, even conflicts between the same species had limits.

At the very least, these Ursaring hadn't gone completely berserk by using moves, they were relying purely on physical strength to determine the winner.

That alone already put them above many other Pokémon.

As trees blocked the view, Silas and Blaziken gradually vanished from the Ursaring's sight.

That meant the chase was finally over.

Both trainer and Pokémon let out a long breath of relief. After Blaziken set him down, Silas looked painfully at the eleven remaining bottles of Honey in his backpack.

Thankfully, he had prepared in advance and packed them separately.

Otherwise, today's losses would have been far greater.

The top priority now was getting out of this forest as fast as possible.

Silas and Blaziken hurried off in a chosen direction, breaking into a quick run.

He had absolutely no desire to experience another Ursaring pursuit.

Once was more than enough.

With the correct route and no further interference, Silas soon reached the edge of Ursaring Forest.

Looking at the stream ahead of him, he unconsciously let out a sigh of relief.

As long as he crossed this river, he wouldn't need to worry about Ursaring anymore.

This area wasn't their territory.

"Whu~"

A tender, childish cry reached Silas's ears.

"Hm?"

Just as he was about to leave, Silas's eyes lit up.

That cry sounded like a Teddiursa.

He exchanged a glance with Blaziken.

Blaziken closed its eyes in understanding.

Blue Aura power spread outward in all directions.

"There."

Blaziken suddenly opened its eyes and dashed toward a direction.

A flash of red light followed.

Gigalith emerged, instinctively taking over the role of protecting Silas.

Silas smiled in satisfaction and patted its back/shoulder.

Gigalith sincerely hoped its Trainer would never find out that it had been the one to suggest a sandpit battle among the team yesterday afternoon.

It had really just been squatting in the corner all afternoon.

Soon enough, Blaziken returned, holding a small creature.

"Whu~"

It let out the same sound Silas had heard earlier.

That's right, it was a Teddiursa.

The crescent-shaped marking on its forehead was the clearest proof.

Silas showed it a friendly smile.

Who would've thought? He had lost some Honey, yet ended up finding a Teddiursa in the outer area instead.

Dangling in midair in Blaziken's grip, Teddiursa instinctively felt that something was very wrong. It blinked its cute little eyes and gave Silas a pleading smile.

It was just a pitiful little one that had been temporarily kicked out by its parents, couldn't they just let it go?

Teddiursa had heard more than once from others of its kind just how terrifying humans were.

They were demons who would sweep away all the honey. At some point, Serperior appeared nearby and leaned in, giving Teddiursa's paw a lick.

"Ta-ja~"

Its eyes lit up as it let out an excited cry.

This flavor, so fragrant.

The way Serperior looked at Teddiursa suddenly felt… off.

Teddiursa began trembling even harder.

This Pokémon looked kind of like Arbok, so fierce. It wouldn't try to eat me, would it?

Blaziken pushed Serperior away with its other claw in clear disgust.

Seriously? You can even bring yourself to lick that?

The chicken and the snake locked eyes, silently communicating.

Teddiursa was on the verge of crying.

"Ahem."

Silas spoke up, breaking the strange atmosphere.

"Come back, Serperior."

He immediately recalled Serperior into its Poké Ball, completely ignoring its resentful little glare.

"Don't worry, little guy. We won't do anything to you."

Silas said cheerfully, trying to comfort the clearly unsettled Teddiursa.

Teddiursa didn't feel comforted in the slightest.

Right—not doing anything to me.

Just doing something to my honey, right?

It understood perfectly.

After recalling Gigalith as well, Silas quickly arrived at Teddiursa's temporary dwelling under Blaziken's guidance.

It was very close to a stream.

Clearly a spot Teddiursa had chosen deliberately for easy access to water.

What it hadn't realized was that being near a stream also made it easier for humans to find.

It could only be said, it was still too young.

"A kid eating this many sweets isn't good for your body or your teeth. I'll just store it for you for now."

Silas spouted nonsense as he deftly pulled out jars and collected the honey Teddiursa had carefully brewed.

Between taking and giving, the Honey he had used earlier hadn't even gone to waste.

He instantly felt that his luck today was exceptionally good.

Watching its food reserves dwindle, Teddiursa finally couldn't hold back and burst into tears.

Blaziken felt a little awkward.

It held Teddiursa up in front of Silas.

Silas coughed awkwardly.

Alright, maybe don't be that much of a jerk.

When the honey was nearly gone, he finally stopped.

"See? I didn't take it all. Keep working hard, okay?"

Silas said to Teddiursa.

With tear-filled eyes, Teddiursa looked toward its "storage room" and cried even harder.

Silas stuffed the honey jars into his backpack and gave Blaziken another look.

Blaziken felt utterly exhausted, why had its workload suddenly increased so much today?

With a sigh, it set Teddiursa down, scooped up Silas, and ran.

In a single stride across the stream, Silas and Blaziken vanished from Teddiursa's sight almost instantly.

Teddiursa sobbed softly.

It didn't even know whether it should be happy that it was still alive, or sad that its honey was gone.

"Uu…"

Wiping away its tears, a determined light shone in Teddiursa's eyes.

It had decided.

From now on, it would become the tyrant of the forest.

From now on, it would be the one stealing from others, never the one being robbed again!

Teddiursa felt its appearance was actually a big advantage.

Hadn't that human recalled that awful big snake precisely because it acted cute?

It believed it had found the key to victory.

Even if its strength was lacking, it had plenty of ways to protect itself.
