Chapter 358 - Chapter 358: Bear One, Bear Two, Bear Three… So Many Ursaring (Part 1)

Deep within the lush, verdant forest—

"Who's that guy behind me? Team Rocket, or Team Magma?"

Leaning against the trunk of a thick tree, Silas narrowed his eyes in thought.

The only dark organizations he had ever come into direct conflict with were those two.

The more likely one was Team Magma.

Mainly because of Giovanni, setting aside whether he was good or evil, he was outstanding in almost every regard.

Logically speaking, if Giovanni had taken notice of him, his first choice would be to recruit Silas rather than eliminate him outright.

Even if Silas had caused some disruption to Team Rocket's operations. This wasn't Silas overestimating his own potential.

Rather, this was simply Giovanni's belief system.

As long as something helped further Team Rocket's goal of seizing control of the world, Giovanni would attempt it.

That was also where his greatest personal charisma lay.

Of course, it wasn't a good thing.

At least not when the two sides were enemies.

In any case, Silas felt that although the Pokémon League had plenty of flaws, his life under it was going pretty well.

So there was absolutely no need for him to join Team Rocket and follow in Giovanni's footsteps.

One could only say that history had branched at a certain point in time.

If he hadn't obtained Pidgeot back then, he might really have joined Team Rocket.

After all, Team Rocket truly excelled at discovering and cultivating talent from the lower ranks.

"But that guy tailing me is really underestimating me."

Thinking about the tracker's performance made Silas want to laugh.

Before leaving Leaf Town, he genuinely hadn't noticed anyone following him.

After all, Leaf Town was currently at its liveliest time of the year.

Someone leaving in the same direction as him was perfectly normal.

But the problem was, did he really have to follow him so blatantly the entire way?

Silas always preferred taking remote side paths, so under normal circumstances he almost never encountered other Trainers during his travels.

Yet this morning, there just happened to be someone sticking to him like glue.

It would've been stranger if Silas hadn't noticed. He wasn't an eighty-year-old with failing eyesight, after all.

"Still, that guy's disguise skills are pretty impressive."

Silas reflected.

Every time the man appeared in his field of vision, his face looked completely different from before.

If it were someone else, they might feel mildly puzzled at most and never suspect a thing.

But Silas was different.

"Blaze."

Blaziken suddenly appeared at his side.

"Did he leave?"

Silas asked calmly.

Blaziken nodded.

"Looks like he's not very strong and not very brave either, if he didn't dare follow us in."

Silas smacked his lips regretfully.

If the guy had followed them inside, Silas had plenty of ways to let him experience the hospitality of Ursaring.

"Well then, forget it. Let's go in."

He said with a smile to Blaziken.

Silas had no intention of wasting an extra one or two hours by taking a detour.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, that was an undeniable truth.

Their figures gradually vanished into the dense undergrowth.

Ursaring Forest

One of the human-forbidden zones of the Johto region.

Countless Ursaring lived here.

These brown, bear-like Pokémon with a yellow ring on their bellies were terrifying creatures.

Not only did they possess immense physical strength, but they also had extraordinarily sharp senses of smell.

This ability allowed them to track enemies with frightening efficiency.

It really showed how miraculous Pokémon evolution could be.

After all, a Pokémon like this began life as Teddiursa, a teddy-bear-like little cub.

The contrast between the two was enough to leave anyone speechless.

Still, despite being a human no-go zone, plenty of thrill-seeking Trainers ventured here during certain periods.

The reason was simple—

Teddiursa.

The honey produced by Teddiursa was made by mixing Berries with pollen collected by Beedrill, resulting in an exceptionally sweet flavor that people adored.

Moreover, each Teddiursa produced honey with a slightly different taste, making it even more desirable.

Of course, stealing food from Teddiursa was no easy task.

The cub itself wasn't much of a threat—aside from being cute, its combat power wasn't impressive.

But its parents, grandparents, uncles, and aunts would absolutely not be polite about it.

Four or five Ursaring surrounding you and cracking their knuckles was practically guaranteed.

Running was useless.

At times like this, Ursaring's sense of smell became terrifyingly effective.

Unless you fled straight out of Ursaring Forest after the theft, they would hunt you relentlessly to the ends of the earth.

Like most Pokémon young, Teddiursa usually lived deep within the forest, making this feat extremely difficult.

And there was also a rumor, just a rumor.

Because Teddiursa constantly licked honey from its paws, once the sweet nectar seeped in, even its paws became sweet.

But since eating Pokémon was illegal, no one dared take that seriously.

"Hmm… if I remember correctly, Ursaring give birth around January or February each year."

Walking through the forest, Silas fell into thought.

Then why did Ursaring Forest feel so unnaturally quiet right now?

Listening to the eerie cries echoing around him, Silas felt like he had forgotten something important.

May.

After thinking it through, his expression gradually turned strange.

No way…

"ROOOAR!!"

Before he could confirm it, an enraged roar erupted from a pitch-black cave ahead.

Immediately afterward, a red-eyed Ursaring burst out, blocking the path of Silas and Blaziken.

"I didn't mean to disturb you. I'm very sorry—see, can I leave?"

Silas asked weakly.

"ROOOAR!!"

Ursaring let out another furious bellow.

Alright then.

Silas shrugged. Looks like that wasn't going to work.

"Then I guess I'll have to try convincing you the hard way."

He sighed.

How did he forget about that timing?

Well, it wasn't a huge problem anyway.

"Blaziken—Low Kick, then Double Kick."

He gave the command.

The red-eyed Ursaring's forearms gradually became shrouded in white light.

Hammer Arm, a Fighting-type move with tremendous power.

But no matter how strong a move is, it's useless if it doesn't hit.

As Blaziken charged forward at high speed, it rapidly lowered its center of gravity.

A feint to the right—actually dodging left—allowed it to slip past Ursaring's straight-down Hammer Arm. Then, with a single leg, it struck fiercely at Ursaring's lower body.

Boom.

The heavy sound of a massive body crashing to the ground rang out.

With an average weight of around 125 kilograms, Ursaring is a large Pokémon that is heavily countered by Low Kick.

The base power of the move was no weaker than Hammer Arm itself.

What's more, Ursaring's pure Normal typing leaves it highly vulnerable to Fighting-type attacks.

With just this single move, Blaziken directly knocked out the Advance-level Ursaring, rendering it unable to battle.

Immediately after, Blaziken leapt forward.

Two sharp whipping kicks slammed directly into the body of the second Ursaring.

It was forced backward, falling onto its back.

This Ursaring had noticeably longer fur around its shoulders than the first, it was a female.

"Sorry for disturbing you, but I don't really have a choice," Silas scratched his head.

"Blaziken, finish it with Slash."

He waved his hand decisively, showing no hesitation.

At that moment, the second Ursaring—having just barely regained its balance after emerging from the cave, looked up.

The Pokémon that had interrupted its private moment and knocked out its mate was standing right in front of it again.

Furious, Ursaring raised its fist, ready to show off its power.

Smack.

A dull impact echoed.

Blaziken's claws, gleaming with bright white light, chopped straight down onto Ursaring's shoulder.

The massive arm froze mid-swing.

Its knees buckled, its eyes turned into spirals, and it collapsed beside the first Ursaring.

"What a hassle…"

Although he had dealt with the immediate trouble, Silas still felt a headache coming on.

Seriously, how did he forget that May, June, and July were Ursaring's mating season?

This definitely wasn't the first time he'd interrupted Pokémon at an awkward moment.

And as the battle ended, the surrounding atmosphere grew increasingly oppressive.

The strange noises that had filled the area earlier vanished, replaced by the same kind of furious roars Ursaring had just made.

Silas knew it, he had completely angered the forest's original residents.

As for what to do next, "Blaziken, run with me!"

Without hesitation, he jumped onto Blaziken's back.

The movements were smooth and practiced.

Blaziken took a deep breath, then kicked off the ground, turning into a blur as it vanished from the spot.

No joke, was Silas supposed to fight all the Ursaring here head-on?

Even if his partner had the advantage, Ursaring enraged after having their private time disturbed clearly wouldn't follow any one-on-one rules.

This wouldn't be a one-versus-two situation anymore, one-versus-dozens would be the norm.

He had no intention of leaving his life behind here. Of course, Silas could have chosen to let his Pidgeot carry him away.

But after sensing the sudden vibrations spreading through the ground, he immediately abandoned the idea.

In a forest like this, without open ground, the time required for Pidgeot to take off would be far too long.

And despite their massive size, Ursaring are surprisingly skilled at climbing trees.

If Pidgeot hadn't even reached altitude before the Ursaring caught up…

Well, the unlucky one would be Silas himself.

Compared to that, staying on the ground was the better option.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Heavy tremors echoed constantly in Silas's ears.

He turned his head to look back.

The next second, his expression completely collapsed.

Behind Blaziken were at least seven or eight Ursaring.

Without exception, every single one of them had glowing red eyes.

Likely because rage counts as a status condition, the Ursaring, under the effects of their Quick Feet Ability had become frighteningly fast.

"Turn—left—!"

Silas's words were distorted by the speed.

But Blaziken understood.

Carrying Silas on its back, it executed a sharp drifting turn and disappeared deeper into the forest.
