Chapter 357 - Chapter 357: Thousand Faces Who Hasn’t Given Up

Silas did not mention this matter to Steven.

After all, the two of them had only just met today.

Even if he were to ask someone about it, it should be Professor Owen or Professor Oak, not Steven.

Steven continued speaking. "As for so-called Z-Moves, you can think of them as enhanced, upgraded versions of regular moves. To activate them, aside from a Z-Ring, you also need something called a Z-Crystal.

Z-Crystals only exist in special mineral veins in the Alola region.

There are many types, corresponding to each elemental type and certain specific Pokémon. To use a Z-Move, a Trainer must wear a Z-Ring embedded with a Z-Crystal on their wrist, and have their Pokémon hold a matching Z-Crystal to create resonance.

The Trainer's stamina and physical strength are also heavily consumed during this process.

The Pokémon League is currently considering the possibility of using Z-Rings for Mega Evolution as well.

However, regardless of whether it's the former or the latter, neither can realistically be put into use in the short term, at the very least, it's a ten-year project."

At the end of the day, Steven was still a Trainer.

Although he was obsessed with stones, when it came to Pokémon battles, he took things very seriously.

Silas nodded.

With that explanation, he more or less understood.

It was essentially shifting the enhancement provided by Mega Evolution from the Pokémon itself to its moves instead.

A Z-Ring and Z-Crystal were roughly equivalent to a Key Stone and Mega Stone.

That said, this made the system much friendlier to ordinary Pokémon and Trainers.

After all, only a small number of Pokémon can Mega Evolve.

But from what Steven described, it seemed that most moves could potentially be turned into Z-Moves.

Still, just as Steven said, this ability would not be applied to standard Pokémon battles in the near future.

There were many reasons.

The most important was a lack of data.

This included stamina consumption, duration, power, and the effects of individual moves.

Without these, Z-Moves could not be officially approved.

Another issue was the many major and minor requirements involved in producing Z-Rings.

After all, the Pokémon League had only discovered Alola fairly recently.

Everything was still in the exploratory stage.

Even so, the Sparkling Stone was still extremely valuable. Putting aside legendary Pokémon power, the raw material used to make Z-Rings came from it. It looked like something that needed to be carefully preserved.

Sooner or later, it would definitely be useful.

Steven looked at the thoughtful Silas, a strange smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

Everything he had said was correct, he had only left out one not-so-small key detail.

He was very much looking forward to the day Silas would release his first Z-Move.

It would certainly be an interesting sight.

After all, it had taken Steven himself quite a long time to accept the truth back then.

Fortunately, there was no immediate need to use such a move yet.

The two chatted a bit longer.

"It's getting late. I'll head back to rest."

Silas checked the time and stood up to take his leave.

"Alright. Don't forget to send me the list."

Steven didn't keep him any longer.

It really was late.

He even kindly reminded Silas, worried that he might forget about the transaction.

"I won't, I won't."

Silas responded readily, there was no way he could forget something this important.

This concerned his quality of life for the next half year or more.

Returning to the Pokémon Center.

Because of the exchange convention, Leaf City's Pokémon Center and the Nurse Joys inside were still working overtime.

The building was brightly lit even at this hour.

Of course, don't even think about trading Pokémon here at most, you could do item exchanges.

Otherwise, Nurse Joy would teach you what "loving education" really meant.

In the bustling lobby, a bloated, obese man sat on a sofa, panting heavily, looking as if he were exhausted from attending events all day.

However, his narrowed eyes were secretly locked onto Silas.

"So this guy even has ties to Steven…"

Thousand Faces hesitated.

He had followed Silas all day and had clearly seen the target walking together with Hoenn Champion Steven Stone at the battle venue.

The two were even close enough that Steven invited him back to his home.

Thousand Faces had seen it with his own eyes.

As a member of Team Magma, he knew better than most just how terrifying Steven was.

That man was a true monster.

And yet, Thousand Faces was unwilling to give up so easily.

"This guy is way too cautious."

He felt genuinely wounded.

The target was clearly just someone who had recently come of age, yet his actions were extremely steady and careful.

The Tauros Chase event in the afternoon, as well as the battles, had been perfect opportunities.

Thousand Faces knew that the target had only brought along a seemingly ordinary Ralts.

But the problem was that the target was always positioned right at the center of the crowd. If he made a move, countless people would see it.

Thousand Faces had no desire to be beaten into a pulp by a mob, so he could only wait and watch. As for discovering that the other party's background wasn't simple?

So what?

He had offended people like that plenty of times before.

Thousand Faces only cared whether his operation succeeded.

Besides, he'd heard that Blaise had already been caught with solid evidence and locked up. For the time being, there was nothing for him to do.

Thinking of this, Thousand Faces felt nothing but disdain.

A short-lived fool will always be a short-lived fool. No sense of vigilance at all and he still managed to get caught with evidence.

What a disgrace to dark organizations everywhere.

With that thought, the fat man Thousand Faces slowly trailed behind Silas and entered the residential area.

Silas was completely unaware.

It wasn't that he didn't know someone was behind him, people like Thousand Faces were simply too common.

Mixed into the crowd, even with his keen perception, Silas couldn't sense anything unusual.

"Bang"

Watching the door close, the fat Thousand Faces let out a cold chuckle.

He refused to believe that this guy could stay alert forever.

As long as Silas relaxed, he would have his chance.

Before that, though, he might as well get some proper rest.

Lying on the bed, Thousand Faces was filled with resentment. If it weren't for that idiot, he wouldn't be this exhausted.

The Next Morning

Silas set out early, walking along the road in a great mood.

Why?

Naturally, it was because after he sent his list of requirements to Steven the previous night, the speed at which the other party paid exceeded all expectations.

To be precise, it wasn't money, but breeding materials.

One could only say that a large corporation really lived up to its name; everything Silas needed had been prepared overnight.

According to Steven, once Silas reached Goldenrod City, he could simply pick everything up at the Devon Corporation counter inside the department store.

That was unbelievably convenient.

Silas felt that Steven was truly a friend worth keeping.

"Mm-hmm~ ♪"

Humming an unknown tune, he headed straight toward the forest.

This was the shortest route to the next town.

"This guy… is he insane?"

Trailing behind, Thousand Faces's expression changed repeatedly.

He even began to wonder whether Silas had already noticed him.

"Or maybe, I should wait ahead?"

Watching Silas disappear into the forest ahead, Thousand Faces didn't dare follow directly, instead choosing to take a detour.

By the roadside, an extremely inconspicuous wooden sign stood quietly—

"Ursaring Forest EXTREME DANGER

DO NOT ENTER"
