Kate looked small in the hospital bed.
Berlin sat in the chair beside her.
Karlos stayed in the corridor. She had asked him to.
Kate opened her eyes.
She looked at Berlin for a moment.
"You are angry," Kate said. Her voice was thin.
"No," Berlin said.
"You should be."
"You saved my life," Berlin said. "I am finding it difficult to locate the anger."
Kate looked at the ceiling. "I switched the glasses because I saw someone near the table. A man I did not recognise. He was at the drinks station for longer than made sense." She paused. "I did not tell you in case I was wrong. I thought if I was wrong it was better that only I knew I had been paranoid." She paused again. "I was not wrong."
"No," Berlin said. "You were not."
"Who was it?" Kate asked.
"We do not know yet," Berlin said. "The security footage is being reviewed."
Kate was quiet.
"I am sorry," she said. "I should have told you what I saw instead of—"
