The more she spoke, the more frightened she became. Lucas patiently waited until she finished.
Then he smiled helplessly. "Mom, you already know I've made up my mind."
He gently rubbed the back of his neck. "And besides, I already have children."
His smile became warmer. "Jules is pregnant. Twins. A boy and a girl."
He couldn't help chuckling.
"With two children already on the way, why would I need more? I think my life is already complete."
Mary immediately glared at him. "You're completely missing my point!"
She tightly clenched both fists. "I'm not worried about grandchildren! I'm worried about you!"
Her tears finally flowed freely.
"I truly can't bear the thought of losing you."
