My heart was caught in my throat as I stared at Kolli. His breathing was increasing by the second as he looked away from me and to the floor. He shook his head, clearly unable to process that I had given up Pereira.
I sometimes didn't believe it either. Too much in shock to even realize what I had given up. But partially relieved that the weight had finally been shed off my shoulders. Like I'd been carrying a mountain and only now felt how heavy it was.
Kolli took a step back from me. Pressed his hand to his forehead like he had a headache, then looked at me. His honey eyes were glassy, melting me by the second before he sighed. A tired, defeated sound.
"I'm happy for you, Danilo. I genuinely am," he said. "But fixing us isn't going to change anything, you know that. You always sweet talk. Convince me that we're magic together. Then go for the next best thing. I just can't take it anymore."
