"Kolli?" I parked the Rolls in the first empty bay I found, right across from his Pagani. My hands were still gripping the wheel. My heart ripped out of my chest when a sob broke from his throat. Small. Broken. "Kolli, meu coração."
He didn't look at me. He hid his face in his hands, shoulders shaking. That massive white fur coat made him look like a child in it. "Why didn't you fight for me sooner?" His voice cracked. Muffled by his palms. "Why did you wait until I was already gone?"
The words hit me harder than any of Kolli's yelling ever had.
I cut the engine. The sudden silence was worse. Just the hum of the lights above us and Kolli's uneven breathing bouncing off the marble. I unbuckled my seatbelt and turned to him fully. The space between us still felt like an ocean.
"Because I was a coward," I admitted. My voice was hoarse. "Because fighting for you meant admitting I was the reason you were hurting. And I didn't know how to be that man."
