Chapter 3 - Getting used to it

Azrael's POV:

Almost seven months have passed, and I've already adjusted to the language of this world. I'm not fluent yet, but at least I can understand basic words now.

But one thing is certain.

This is not Earth.

The good thing is, my new parents here are taking really good care of me.

Still... I hope my parents back on Earth are okay.

As I sat at the table, waiting for the food my new parents prepared, I quietly watched them.

After a while, Father finally arrived, placing the food in front of me.

"Here you go, son. Eat up. That's your father's delicious cooking," he said proudly.

His name is Andreus Valen.

"Hmph, my cooking is way better than his, you know," my mother teased. Her name is Ruby Valen.

"HAHAHA, your cooking is good, but not as good as mine," Father replied.

"Oh really now? Baby, isn't Mama's cooking better than Papa's?" she asked, looking at me for support.

"Ah, looking for someone to take your side, huh?" Father laughed.

I smiled.

I couldn't help it.

They reminded me of my parents back on Earth.

Always teasing each other like this.

"HA! My baby smiled at me! That means my cooking is better!" Mama said proudly.

"Hey, just because he smiled doesn't mean he agrees with you. Right, son? The one who inherited his dad's good looks knows my cooking is better," Papa said.

I smiled at him too.

"HAHAHA! See? He smiled at me too! That means he takes after me!" Papa laughed as he fed me a bite of his cooking.

The moment I tasted it, my eyes widened.

It was actually really good.

This is the first time I've tasted his cooking since I was reincarnated here.

I quickly swallowed and eagerly waited for another bite.

"Wow, you're eating fast. See? I really am the better cook," he teased again.

"Fine, you win this time. But next time, you won't be smiling like that," Mama replied with a playful smile.

We continued eating together until I was completely full.

"Honey, our baby is almost eight months old, and you still haven't decided on a name for him. You know the yearly blessing is in three weeks, right?" Mama said.

"Don't worry. I already have a name for him. I'm going to name him Azrael," Papa replied.

"Azrael? Where did you come up with that?" Mama asked.

"I've been thinking about it for a while. It's unique," he said, smiling as he lifted me up.

"My handsome son, Azrael D. Valen. You'll be my pride. I hope you grow up strong."

Mama hugged us both.

"In the blessing of his new name, under the month of Fortunaelis, our son has truly blessed us," she said softly.

Night came.

I lay in my crib, staring at the ceiling.

Thinking.

Everything that had happened since I arrived in this world.

Once I learn how to walk properly, I'll gather knowledge.

Everything about this world.

I need to understand where I am.

Without realizing it, my eyes slowly closed.

3rd Person POV:

Azrael woke up to the warmth of sunlight streaming through the window.

A soft breeze brushed against his skin.

Then—

Wait.

What is that smell?

...

Oh.

I just pooped.

Seriously?

He stayed still, uncomfortable.

Well... I'm still a baby. I guess this happens.

He tried to crawl, but his body wouldn't cooperate yet.

All he could do was sit there and wait.

This is the worst.

After a while, the door opened.

"Oh, my baby Azrael is awake!" his mother said, picking him up.

"Oh, you made a mess, hehe. Let's clean you up."

After getting cleaned and changed, Azrael was placed in the living room, sitting on the floor, trying to crawl again.

Still difficult.

The front door opened.

His father entered, accompanied by three men.

"Ruby, these are the priests who will assess Azrael," his father said.

His mother bowed.

"Thank you for coming to our home, Father."

The priest gently gestured for her to rise.

"Thank you for having us. Now, where is baby Azrael?" he asked.

"Here he is, Father," she said, pointing.

The priest smiled.

"What a healthy child. Very well, we will begin."

He stepped closer and raised his hand.

Light gathered around it.

Azrael's eyes widened.

What is—

He suddenly felt his body lift.

No one was touching him.

His body rose slowly into the air.

Wait...

I'm floating?

Is this... magic?

The light formed into a glowing structure beneath him, like a table made of pure white light.

The two other priests began chanting.

Their voices overlapped.

Strange words.

Unfamiliar.

"pquotry haq6dh9>/ hsgabOP(]]a Azrael!"

What language is that?

An incantation?

Then—

A pulling sensation.

Something inside him being drawn out.

It felt wrong.

Then everything turned white.

SWOOOSH

Suddenly—

Darkness.

Complete darkness.

No sound.

No light.

A void.

Then—

A screen appeared in front of him.

Just like a game interface.

Brown in color.

Displaying words.
