Both attacks launched against each other in the very next moment, as the two explosions once again swept across the entire area the instant they connected, with the two opposing energies trying to consume one another. The golden energy came from the angel, who was no longer holding back, while Severus unleashed the dark energy, both colliding violently.
The very crater where they both stood roared rapidly, with the two energies clashing against each other and devastating everything around them. The wind from the impact spread outward, lifting dust and even extinguishing some scattered embers and flames.
Severus analyzed his energy crashing against the golden energy as it began to consume it, turning it dark as well. His ability was related to a new type of black hole magic, capable of reversing the laws of physics, draining the enemy's divine energy and even corrupting it, as if dragging it into the abyss itself.
Severus noticed that not even the Ruler was making an effort to reverse it. In fact, he was growing weaker and weaker, as the energy began to retreat directly toward his side, until he could no longer hold it back.
The energy exploded against his without any further resistance, advancing at full speed in his direction, striking him square in the chest before he could react.
The Ruler took a few steps back as Severus's energy faded away in small black and purple lightning bolts, leaving only an echo and a hole in the angel's chest plate, piercing through it along with his flesh. The angel simply fell to his knees.
Severus teleported near him, staring at him.
"Why?" he simply asked, sounding frustrated.
The angel merely raised his gaze to Severus, who watched him, somewhat frustrated.
"The core you placed in my wand... you removed your own heart and transformed it into the core..." Severus already knew the truth.
The Monarch looked at the Ruler, who had already been dying since the second round of battles had begun. What he did not understand was why. Why all of this? Why, when Severus's wand was breaking, did he simply give his own heart to make it into a core and withstand his power?
"For the future, Severus Prince," the Ruler finally replied, sounding breathless. Even so, with a massive hole in his chest, he spoke as he slowly died.
"It doesn't make sense. Only if you truly never intended to kill me... I just don't understand why you're doing this after saying everything before."
"Just like Ashborn, I am also tired of wars. And once it begins, many more entire worlds will be destroyed while we try to defeat the Monarchs. I tried to find a way to stabilize the balance and, among all the possibilities for the future, I found one in which I would die today, at least temporarily."
"I knew that if we destroyed the Monarchs and you acquired their armies, you would be able to complement the balance, and the Rulers would be able to act once again. After all, there will be two opposing powers in the universe. And I believe you are ideal for this. You were not corrupted by power. If you keep the universe peaceful, the balance will be realized. Light and darkness must exist, Severus Prince. And you must be the darkness, while the other Rulers will be the light."
Severus listened to that in silence.
"There is one more thing. Something that can change everything," he said, raising one arm as a light began to emerge, until it formed a goblet in midair, gently falling before Severus.
"This is the Cup of Reincarnation. With it, you can go back ten years into the past, rewind the entire universe. It is far more powerful than a Time-Turner in this world. In fact, I was the one who created them..." He let out a small laugh as he spat blood.
"Go back ten years into the past..." Severus murmured, looking at the goblet.
"Yes. Ten years. I and all the Rulers will be active ten years earlier, just like the Monarchs. Even those you killed will come back to life, and everyone will be in their previous positions. We, the Rulers, will be in the worlds where we were living, just as I will be in this world, but with my Ruler power restored, just like the others. The same applies to the Monarchs. Except that you will have to decide between being Severus Snape or Morou Kaind."
The question caught Severus off guard. Seeing this, the Ruler himself began to transmit information directly to Severus, explaining exactly how the Cup of Reincarnation worked.
Severus was surprised. He could start everything over. More than that, he could return as a younger Morou Kaind or as a child, as the seven-year-old Severus Snape. After all, Severus Prince is seventeen there.
But the problem was having to choose between one or the other.
If he returned, all the people who died because of the gates — especially in the war in Japan, where there were tens of thousands of victims of the giants — would be alive again. If he went back in time, all the destruction caused in Tokyo and in other Japanese cities, as well as there, in London, which no longer existed, would be restored as if nothing had happened.
Severus could even have a chance to save his mother from his father's abuse!
Or he could be Morou Kaind.
He could save the order of destruction!
Severus was deep in thought.
"You have to decide," the Ruler said. "I will use the rest of my energy to activate the Cup of Reincarnation, dying in the process. This is a unique chance, Severus Prince. When we return to the past, we must fight the Monarchs. The other Rulers will also join us."
"We can prevent the worlds they have already destroyed. I have a way to cast them into another dimension along with the other Rulers. There, time will pass more quickly, to the point that not much time will pass in this dimension. You can still see again the people you care about, with whom you kept your relationships and feelings, both in the Order and in this world. Though I doubt you would have the same relationship if you show up as an old man." He laughed.
Severus did not respond to the joke. He simply turned around, and a portal began to open right in front of him. He gave one last look at the Ruler.
"Very well. I have already decided. I will just see them one last time," Severus murmured.
"All right. Just come back quickly. We do not have much time," the Ruler said.
Seeing him die there, Severus knew he was telling the truth, and he could not help but believe his words. If that truly would save the world, then he would do it.
He stepped into the portal.
There was another portal in the village. It burst open in a purple vacuum, and Severus stepped out of it as the people stared in shock. He was still in his armor of darkness, slowly making it disappear little by little, until it revealed his bare chest with only a pair of pants, his appearance looking worn and exhausted in the end. Then he found the families, his companions together with them.
"Severus!"
Clarisse was the first to run toward him, followed by Lily, while Pandora came behind, almost skipping.
"I thought you had died! Everyone said you had died!" Clarisse began to cry, hugging him. Lily also came, with tears streaming from her eyes.
"I really did die," Severus murmured, with a sigh.
"But how?" Lily wanted to know. How had he returned? It was not possible for someone to die and come back.
"I was given a second chance... after meeting a certain someone," Severus said. There was no point in talking about the Shadow Monarch to the others.
Rosaria and Bellatrix also joined him with distressed looks.
"And who were you fighting? It seems the battle continued after the comet and you destroyed all of London!" Bellatrix crossed her arms, but Rosaria could sense that something was wrong.
"The battle is not over, is it, Severus? Why are you here?" she asked, worried. Something was wrong.
He simply showed a small smile.
"You're leaving?" Lily spoke anxiously, and Clarisse looked at him, anguished, she seemed tense.
"It is more or less that," Severus replied in a whisper.
Pandora opened a small smile. "You will not be gone for long, but you will return. I am sure of it. Right, Sev?"
"Yes," Severus replied, before looking at all of them, while the families also approached. "I need to go somewhere, but I will return and meet with each of you, if you still wish to be with me."
"How long? How long will you be gone?" Rosaria asked, worried. Even with her centuries of life, she seemed anxious.
"For a time that you will not even notice my absence." Seeing that there was no better explanation, he revealed the truth. "I intend to go back ten years into the past."
"What?" Even the other families stepped closer, surprised.
"Ten years?" Clarisse exclaimed. "We did not even remember you!"
"I know. But I can also save countless lives and restore the cities that were destroyed in this world. Not to mention the entire worlds that were destroyed by the greed of the Monarchs... The Order can also be restored before it is destroyed. It will be better for everyone. You will not remember things, unfortunately, but it is something that must be done."
"I do not want to forget you!" Rosaria shouted, with tears in her eyes.
"To hell with the cities, Severus...! I also do not want to simply let you go," Bellatrix murmured softly. She was in love with Severus.
Bellatrix was the kind of woman who would sacrifice the entire world for the person she loved, but Severus did not even know how to respond to that.
"Well... he can come conquer us again, right?" Pandora commented, trying to lighten the mood.
Lily seemed extremely anxious, but when she looked at all those other girls, she knew that Severus no longer belonged only to her. Even so, she could not help but love and admire him. If that were the price to pay — having to share him — so be it. He would return before their fight, and that gave her hope to make things different from what their relationship had become.
"Promise that you will win us over again," she grabbed him tightly. Even Clarisse tightened the embrace even more. All of them looked at him.
Severus sighed and nodded.
"All right. I will first wage the war against the Monarchs outside this world. Then I will return here. In the end, I just want to live a normal life and let the Order continue doing its work." He did not look only at his girls, but also at the families and the house-elves.
"You may perhaps never remember this moment, but everything will be fine. I can guarantee that. When you realize it, you will be living your lives peacefully, without all this chaos. But it will not be the last time we meet. Dobby and the others, I promise that I will go after each one of you and make you my house-elves once again. As for the families... well, I intend to meet you as well in my future. If I can pass on the memories of what is happening here in this timeline, I will make each of you remember everything. That is why I am giving a temporary farewell."
He simply turned around.
His great-uncle could not stop shedding tears. "Please, Severus! If you are going to go back ten years into the past... Save your mother, bring her back! To your true family! Give me the memories! I will put an end to your uncles before they do any harm to her!" Alaric Prince shouted.
Severus did not look back, but he showed a smile as he opened a new purple portal right in front of him and stepped into it.
He returned to the crater, even more destroyed by the last impact of the attacks.
"You have returned," said the Ruler, as Severus approached.
"Yes. It is time to end this. I wish to return to the past," he simply said.
The Ruler nodded, seeming satisfied with his answer. It was better to restore everything the Monarchs had destroyed and try to save them than to fight them now. At least the worlds, the Order, and the people who had died in this last decade would return to how they were ten years ago.
There were many mistakes and tragedies that could be corrected.
"Very well. Now I ask you, Severus Prince: will you be Severus Snape or Morou Kaind?"
He asked the question simply.
Severus merely showed a smile.
In the next moment, the goblet that was still raised suddenly exploded in light, consuming the Ruler and Severus, as the horizon itself suddenly shone in a strong hue that resembled the sun itself, catching everyone at a distance by surprise.
Even the entire world saw the light crossing the sky, illuminating even the other side of the planet somehow.
Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald, the people of the I.C.W., the other wizards, the army of Great Britain and of the other countries, the rulers of the world and the wizarding and Muggle inhabitants of the entire planet, all looked toward the glowing horizon.
The people closest to Severus also stared at it from the village.
That was more than an intense light.
It was a new beginning.
As Severus was consumed by the light, he needed to make a choice about who he would be, because by choosing one, he would eliminate the other. The two could not exist at the same time, because both were one and the same now.
"I will be... Severus Snape."
