Chapter 163 - Yuto Becomes Student Council Vice President!

Chapter 163: Yuto Becomes Student Council Vice President!

Among Yuto's three girlfriends, Airi and Kei were both too shy and reserved. If Yuto didn't push them, they wouldn't do anything too bold.

But Kikyo was completely different. This little devil, even knowing that Yuto already had Kei as his girlfriend, still insisted on becoming his secret girlfriend. Her personality was bold and proactive, so Kikyo was very daring!

After arranging their evening date, Kikyo happily hugged Yuto's arm.

"Yuto, you want to lead Class D all the way to Class A, but isn't that going to be pretty difficult?"

"What makes you say that?"

"I looked at Class A's midterm results earlier. Their academics are excellent. Aside from Totsuka Yahiko, who scored in the sixties, almost everyone else had scores in the eighties or higher," Kikyo explained.

"This school doesn't rank classes based only on academics. It's determined by class points, and there are plenty of ways to earn those besides studying and exams," Yuto replied.

"Hmm... That actually sounds even worse. Class D is more than a thousand class points behind Class A."

"Exactly. So we'll need to work hard and narrow that gap as much as possible."

Kikyo tilted her head up and looked at Yuto's handsome profile before smiling sweetly.

"I'll work hard to help you, Yuto."

"Mm. I really do need your help. Your ability to get along with people, coordinate groups, and win others over is extremely valuable to me."

Yuto's praise made Kikyo's smile grow even brighter.

"Then does that mean I'm more useful to you than Karuizawa Kei?"

"Yes."

Yuto nodded without hesitation.

He wasn't merely flattering Kikyo. It was genuinely true.

Kei could influence a portion of the girls in Class D, but Kikyo's reach extended far beyond their own class.

The clearest example was Manabe Shiho.

That talkative girl had already revealed a large amount of Class C information to Kikyo and Yuto, effectively becoming their eyes and ears inside the class.

As they approached the student council building, Kikyo reluctantly released Yuto's arm.

"Yuto~ See you tonight."

"Mm. See you tonight."

Kikyo said goodbye with a sweet smile, then headed toward Keyaki Mall. She needed to buy some bolder clothes.

Yuto entered the student council office alone.

Nine people were already inside: President Horikita Manabu, Secretary Tachibana Akane, Secretary Mizowaki, Secretary Kiriyama Ikuto, and five general affairs staff members.

The general affairs staff were essentially responsible for errands. Their work included delivering messages, posting notices, moving tables and chairs for meetings, cleaning the office, and handling similar tasks.

A trace of surprise appeared on Yuto's face.

He hadn't expected so many student council members to be gathered here.

Even though there were only nine people in the room, that was actually the entire current student council.

With the midterms over, their recent workload had eased considerably, so everyone had come straight to the office after school.

More importantly, they all wanted to see Shimizu Yuto, the newest member, with their own eyes.

After all, every student council member knew that Yuto was the one who had driven Nagumo out.

Yuto looked around the room before showing a relaxed smile.

"Senpais, I'm Shimizu Yuto from Class D. I'm here to report in. I look forward to working with all of you."

Most members responded either calmly or warmly.

Secretary Mizowaki, however, completely ignored the greeting and stared at Yuto with open hostility.

Mizowaki was one of Nagumo's loyal followers.

Just like Tonokawa, he had been beside Nagumo from the beginning. They were classmates who had gone through both successes and setbacks together.

Now Tonokawa and Nagumo had both been forced out of the student council because of Yuto.

That left Mizowaki and three general affairs staff as the only remaining members of Nagumo's faction.

Actually...

Those three general affairs members were already considering abandoning Nagumo.

Yuto's forceful entry into the student council made one thing obvious: Nagumo had almost no chance of returning.

So why should they continue remaining loyal to him?

If Nagumo had not desperately tried to keep them on his side, the three would have defected already and would no longer be part of Nagumo's faction.

Manabu looked toward Yuto and adjusted his glasses.

"Shimizu, welcome to the student council. Your position will be vice president."

That single sentence immediately changed the expressions of Mizowaki and the three general affairs members.

Shimizu Yuto had just joined, yet he was immediately being appointed vice president?!

"That isn't reasonable!" Mizowaki objected at once.

"President, no student has ever joined the student council and immediately become vice president!"

Normally, a newly admitted member had to start among the general affairs staff. Only after passing evaluations and receiving recommendations could they be promoted into positions such as general affairs officer or secretary.

After Mizowaki objected, Kiriyama Ikuto quickly agreed.

"President, Secretary Mizowaki is right. Shimizu-kun can't simply become vice president immediately."

Kiriyama deeply respected and admired Manabu, so he had originally belonged firmly to Manabu's side.

However, before Nagumo was expelled from the student council, Kiriyama had nearly switched allegiance.

Nagumo had promised that once he became student council president, he would move Kiriyama into Class A so he could graduate from there and enjoy the school's privileges.

A guaranteed path to higher education and employment.

That promise gradually tempted Kiriyama into considering betraying Manabu. He desperately wanted to graduate as a Class A student.

Then, before anything could happen...

Nagumo was thrown out of the student council.

Without the vice presidency, Nagumo could no longer become president, so his promise to Kiriyama had effectively vanished.

Kiriyama had started resenting Yuto because of that.

It was Shimizu Yuto, a mere first-year, who had driven Nagumo out and destroyed Kiriyama's chance to move from Class B to Class A.

That resentment was exactly why Kiriyama supported Mizowaki's objection.

Manabu discreetly glanced toward Kiriyama and frowned slightly.

A secretary who supposedly stood on his side was openly opposing his decision.

'Has Kiriyama already switched to Nagumo's side?'

With that thought, Manabu looked toward Tachibana Akane.

She immediately understood what he wanted.

"The student council has never appointed a new member directly as vice president before, but Shimizu-kun is an exception," Tachibana said seriously.

"Everyone here has probably heard about his abilities and achievements. I believe he is fully capable of serving as vice president."

"For a student with exceptional ability, the council should be willing to make an exception rather than remain bound by precedent. I support Shimizu-kun's appointment as vice president. That is all."

The moment Tachibana finished, Mizowaki objected again.

"How can the student council simply break precedent? That doesn't conform to the school's rules!"

Yuto, who stood at the center of the argument, watched the internal conflict with interest.

He had never been particularly enthusiastic about joining the student council anyway, so he was perfectly content to stand there and enjoy the show.

"Then we'll resolve it through a vote according to student council procedure," Manabu said calmly.

He looked directly at Mizowaki.

"Secretary Mizowaki, what do you think?"

"..."

Manabu's gaze placed enormous pressure on Mizowaki.

He had already realized that Manabu was determined to make Yuto vice president, so he could only nod reluctantly.

"If that is what you want, President, then we'll decide through a vote. Everyone is here anyway."

"Very well. Anyone who believes Shimizu-kun should not become vice president, raise your hand," Manabu said slowly.

Raising a hand here was essentially an act of direct opposition toward the president, because everyone knew Manabu wanted Yuto appointed.

So aside from Mizowaki, nobody immediately raised their hand.

After a few moments, the three general affairs members aligned with Nagumo nervously raised theirs as well.

Four out of nine student council members had voted against Yuto.

One more opposing vote would prevent his appointment.

However, the remaining two general affairs members were third-years.

They belonged to Manabu's year rather than Nagumo's, so there was no chance they would vote against him.

Tachibana was also firmly on Manabu's side, so she wouldn't vote against it either.

That meant the decisive final vote belonged to—Secretary Kiriyama Ikuto.

Manabu understood this perfectly and quietly looked toward him.

If Kiriyama raised his hand, it would essentially confirm that he had betrayed Manabu and aligned himself with Nagumo.

Everyone else also realized that Kiriyama held the deciding vote.

The entire room turned toward him.

Under everyone's gaze, Kiriyama remained silent.

He did not raise his hand.

That meant he had chosen to support Yuto's appointment.

Because Kiriyama knew an opposing vote would accomplish nothing.

Even if Yuto failed to become vice president today, Manabu could simply arrange an evaluation a month later and promote him through normal procedure.

Kiriyama was not stupid enough to openly expose himself for a result he could not prevent.

"Then those who approve Shimizu-kun's immediate appointment as vice president, raise your hands," Manabu said.

He raised his own hand first.

Tachibana followed, then Kiriyama, along with the two third-year general affairs members.

Five votes in favor.

"Four against, five in favor. According to the student council's internal vote, Shimizu-kun will assume the position of vice president."

"Tch."

Mizowaki clicked his tongue and secretly glared at Kiriyama.

Unlike Kiriyama, Mizowaki had failed to realize that even blocking Yuto today would only delay the inevitable.

"Tachibana, please teach Shimizu-kun about the student council's work and the responsibilities of the vice president so he can become familiar with them as quickly as possible," Manabu instructed.

"Understood," Tachibana answered crisply.

Yuto smiled toward her.

"Then Tachibana-senpai, I'll be relying on you from now on."

"Mm. I look forward to working with you too, Shimizu-kun."

Originally, Manabu had intended to have Kiriyama train Yuto.

But after noticing signs that Kiriyama's loyalty might be wavering, he changed his mind and assigned Tachibana instead.

If Yuto himself had been asked to choose between Tachibana and Kiriyama, he would have selected Tachibana without hesitation.

If he could choose a pretty female senpai, why would he pick another guy?

Besides, Yuto's sharp senses had already detected faint hostility coming from Kiriyama.

He thought back carefully but couldn't remember ever doing anything directly to offend him.

Under Tachibana's explanations, Yuto gradually learned what responsibilities came with being vice president.

And the more he learned, the more relieved he became.

He was extremely glad he had become vice president instead of starting among the general affairs staff.

The vice president held a decision-making role. Most of the work involved reviewing matters, making decisions, and signing the relevant documents.

General affairs staff, on the other hand, spent their time running errands everywhere.

It was busy, tiring work.

Compared with that, being vice president was almost luxurious.

...

The sky gradually darkened, and Tachibana finally brought that day's instruction to an end.

"Shimizu, I'll continue teaching you tomorrow. That's enough for today."

"Understood. Thank you for all your help today, Senpai."

"It wasn't troublesome. Training a new member is part of my job."

Tachibana shook her head, then took out her school phone.

"Let's exchange contact information. It'll make things easier in the future."

"Sure."

Yuto and Tachibana exchanged contact information before entering the elevator together to leave the student council building.

As the elevator descended, Tachibana quietly glanced at Yuto from the corner of her eye.

After spending the entire afternoon teaching and interacting with him, she had gained a much clearer impression of this junior everyone called a "demon."
