The voice echoed through the trees once more, "MEILI! MEILI!!" Meili's eyes locked onto the darkness beyond the ring of hoodlums, her heart racing. The hoodlums hesitated, their eyes darting towards the source of the voice. Jax's smile faltered, his gaze narrowing as he turned to face the newcomer.
As the figure emerged from the shadows, Meili's eyes widened in surprise. It was Isabella, her face set in a determined expression. The hoodlums' eyes locked onto Isabella as she emerged from the trees. Jax's smile returned, his eyes gleaming with malice.
"Well, well, well," Jax sneered, his voice dripping with condescension. "Look what we have here. If it isn't little Isabella, sticking her nose in where it doesn't belong... again."
Isabella's eyes flashed with anger, but she stood her ground, her gaze locked onto Jax. "Let Meili go, Jax," she demanded, her voice firm and steady.
Jax chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Or what? You'll try to stop me?" The hoodlums moved forward, their swords raised, but Jax held up a hand, halting them.
"No, let's not be too hasty," Jax said. "Let's see what Isabella has planned." Meili's mouth was sealed, and she tried desperately to signal Isabella to run, but Isabella wasn't paying attention.
Meili hadn't expected Isabella to show up, let alone stand up to Jax like this. Isabella's eyes then met Meili's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Meili shook her head, but Isabella's gaze returned to Jax, her expression determined.
"You're not taking Meili anywhere, Jax," Isabella said, her voice cold and deadly. Jax's smile grew wider, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
"Well, Isabella, I have a better idea," he sneered. "Why don't we capture both you and Meili and hold you up for some good enough ransom money?"
Isabella's eyes narrowed as she stretched her hands into her left pocket. "Well, I hope you're ready for what's coming?" Jax and the others watched with intrigue.
Isabella brought out a small, red orb. "What I'm holding is one of the most powerful relics known to man." Jax and the others exchanged amused glances.
"Most powerful relic, huh?" Jax sneered. "Listen, little lady, we don't have all day to waste on your crap. Guys..." he trailed off as Isabella cut him short.
"Shut it, and take a closer look," Isabella said, her eyes glinting with challenge. "Focus on the orb, and you'll see scenes of your future self, several years from now."
Jax's expression darkened. "I've had enough of your chatter. Guys, grab her."
"Hey, Jax!" Isabella said, her voice rising. "I forgot to mention – I have plenty more of these in my pocket. And not only can you see the future with these, but once I drop this relic on the ground, everything and everyone here will go boom. So, how about you take me seriously or give this little orb a try?"
The hoodlums exchanged nervous glances, their confidence wavering in the face of Isabella's claims. Jax, however, remained unfazed, his expression a mask of disdain.
"What's wrong, bunch of weaklings?" Jax sneered, his eyes scanning his cohorts. "You think that's a bomb?" He pointed at one of his top men. "You, go over and get one of those orbs."
The hoodlum hesitated, his eyes darting towards Isabella. "Boss, I-I can't. She might throw one to the ground and cause an explosion."
Jax's face twisted in annoyance. "You lowlifes are scared of a kid?" he spat, his disgust evident. "Well, Isabella, how about I check that orb of yours?"
Jax strode towards Isabella, his movements confident and deliberate. Isabella's composure began to crack, her body shaking slightly as Jax approached. She gripped the orb tightly, her eyes fixed on Jax's face.
"Don't think you can fool me with your tricks, kid," Jax sneered, his eyes locked on the orb. "Let's see what's so special about this thing."
Isabella's eyes darted towards Meili, her gaze pleading for help. Meili's face was set with determination, but she remained frozen, unsure of what to do...
Jax stood right in front of Isabella, his eyes narrowing as he bent over to examine the orb in her hand. "This orb, I don't see anything, mean—" Suddenly, a swift movement caught him off guard.
WHOOSH!
"What the—?! My nose, damn!" Jax yelled in pain as Isabella swiftly sliced off half of his nostril with a small blade.
Isabella's eyes flashed with a mix of fear and adrenaline as she thought to herself, "Dammit, I didn't get his neck." Meili's eyes widened in shock, her face pale.
The hoodlums quickly sprang into action, overpowering Isabella and forcefully tying her up. "You've gone too far, kid," one of them growled, as they restrained her.
Jax stumbled backward, clutching his wounded nose. "You little...!" he cursed, his eyes blazing with anger and humiliation.
Isabella tied up on the ground as she glared at Jax. "You should have taken me seriously," she spat, her voice firm despite the danger surrounding her...
A voice began calling out to Meili from within her, "Hey, little girl." She recognized Wraithbane's voice and steeled herself for what was to come, keeping a brave face.
Meili's thoughts drifted, and her mental landscape shifted. She found herself standing in the desolate realm where she usually conversed with Wraithbane, but this time, there was only his voice.
"Hey, this isn't the best time to drag me in here," Meili snapped, her mental voice laced with irritation. "Can't you see I'm busy?"
Wraithbane's voice was smooth and unruffled. "Sorry for the intrusion, young Missy. But it looks like you might need some help. You're not exactly in a position to take on those hoodlums alone."
Meili's mental tone turned sarcastic. "It's a surprise to hear that coming from you. So now you want to help? You're usually just a headache whenever you're around, just like right now." Her voice dripped with disdain. "Listen, Wraith-whatever, I don't need your stupid help. Why don't you get this over with and let me handle things myself?"
Wraithbane's voice took on a mocking tone. "You sure have a big mouth, but I can't say much about your brain. From what I see, you're going to get killed – you and that little brat. And I don't want anything bad happening to my vessel just yet." His words were laced with a mixture of amusement and concern.
Meili's mental voice seethed with anger. "So, you're only looking out for yourself again, huh? Typical."
Wraithbane's voice remained calm, but a hint of menace crept in. "I'm looking out for my own interests, yes. And right now, that means keeping you alive. At least, for a little while longer."
Meili's eyes narrowed, even in her mental realm. "What do you want from me, Wraithbane?"
"Oh, I think you know exactly what I want," Wraithbane's voice dripped with sly amusement. "And right now your cooperation would be nice. Just... relax, and let me handle things. I can get you out of this situation."
Meili snorted, her mental voice laced with skepticism. "You expect me to trust you? After all the times you've messed with me?"
Wraithbane's voice turned cold, his tone calculating. "You don't have a lot of options right now, Meili. I'm your best chance at survival. So, what's it going to be?"
Meili hesitated, weighing her options. She didn't trust Wraithbane, but she might not have a choice...
Just then, Jax's face contorted with fury, his eyes blazing with anger. "You think you can cut off my nose and get away with it? You're one stupid little brat," he snarled. He snatched a sword from one of his cohorts and charged towards Isabella.
Meili yelled out, desperate to stop him. "Jax, don't do this! Drop the sword!" Her voice echoed through the air as she responded to the outside world while conversing with Wraithbane in her mind.
But Jax didn't listen. He advanced on Isabella, who swiftly grabbed onto his fellow hoodlums, using them as human shields. Then, with a mischievous glint in her eye, Isabella dropped five red orbs to the ground...
BOOM!!
The orbs detonated with a loud sound unleashing a blinding red smoke screen that enveloped everything. The smoke was thick and choking, obscuring everyone's vision.
"Meili, run!!!!" Isabella yelled, her voice muffled by the smoke.
Meili took advantage of the chaos and smoke to struggle against her restraints. She twisted and turned, trying to break free.
As she worked to loosen the ropes a flicker of unease ran through her mind. Meili thought to herself, "Wait a minute... Is she really saving me? I'm supposed to be protecting her, not the other way around."
Meili pushed the thought aside and focused on escaping. She managed to loosen the ropes slightly, then pulled and tugged, her wrists straining against the bindings.
Meanwhile, Jax stumbled around in the smoke, his sword waving wildly as he tried to locate Isabella. "You little brat! I'll kill you!" he bellowed.
Isabella's voice came from somewhere in the smoke, "You're not going to kill anyone today, Jax." Meili heard the sound of scuffling, followed by the clatter of the sword hitting the ground.
Meili took a deep breath and yanked hard on the ropes. They snapped, freeing her hands. She quickly untied her feet and stood up, her eyes scanning the smoke-filled area.
"Meili, I'm over her—... Ahh!" Isabella's voice called out. Meili followed the sound, stumbling through the smoke towards Isabella's voice...
As Meili stumbled through the smoke, she heard Isabella's pained voice calling out to her. "Ahh... Meili, help!" Meili's heart skipped a beat, and she hastened her pace, her outstretched hands probing the darkness.
She collided with something solid, and her voice cracked from the smoke as she called out, "Isabella? Where are you?" But before she could get an answer, Jax's mocking tone cut through the air.
"I ain't Isabella, but this girl is!" Jax sneered, his hand grasping Isabella's neck as he held her up like a trophy. With a flourish of his sword, the smoke vanished, revealing the brutal reality of their situation...
"Let her go, Jax," Meili said, her voice firm despite the fear rising within her. Jax's eyes locked onto hers, a cruel smile twisting his face.
"Shut it, I'm done playing games," he snarled, his smile morphing into a deadly frown. He raised his sword, its edge glinting menacingly as he pointed it at Isabella.
"Jax, stop!" Meili yelled, her heart racing with desperation. Isabella's terrified cry echoed through the air, "Meili, help!"
SLASH!!
In a swift, deadly motion, Jax swiped his sword. Time seemed to slow as Meili realized she was powerless to stop the blade. Isabella screamed, "Noo!! Meili!"
But it was too late. Jax's sword sliced through the air, and Meili felt a searing pain as she tried to intervene. She stumbled backward, her vision blurring as Jax took her down...
Meili's wounds gushed blood, and she hastily activated her healing Bujutsu. However, the regeneration wasn't happening fast enough, and panic began to set in. "Uh oh, he got most of my vitals. This is bad," she thought grimly.
Jax sneered at her struggles, his voice dripping with mockery. "Not only are you crazy good with a sword, but you can use healing Bujutsu too. How convenient."
With a cruel glint in his eye, Jax taunted her further. "Why don't I make it more challenging for you?" Before Meili could react, Jax delivered a brutal kick, sending her flying across the forest. She crashed into a tree with bone-jarring force, the impact leaving her gasping for breath.
Tears streamed down Isabella's face as she watched Meili struggle to move, her body battered and broken. "Meili, Meili get up please," Isabella begged, her voice shaking with fear and desperation.
But Meili lay still, her body limp and lifeless. Jax's eyes flicked to Isabella, his gaze cold and menacing. "You can't stay quiet, can you?" he sneered, his hand closing around her arm like a vice.
WHAM!!
With a cruel yank, Jax threw Isabella to the ground, her body hitting the dirt with a thud. She cried out in pain and fear, her eyes fixed on Meili's still form...
Isabella's cries were muffled by the dirt and debris, her body trembling with fear. Jax stood over her, his eyes blazing with a sadistic intensity.
"You think your little bodyguard can save you?" he sneered, his foot pressing down on her chest. "She's done, and soon you will be too."
Isabella's eyes locked onto Meili's still form, her heart racing with desperation. She knew she had to act fast, or she would suffer the same fate. With a surge of adrenaline, Isabella mustered what little strength she had left...
But just as she was about to make a move, Jax's grip on her tightened, his fingers digging deep into her skin. "Don't even think about it," he growled, his breath hot against her face...
Jax's fists pummeled Isabella with calculated cruelty, each blow landing with precision. Her cries for help grew more frantic, her voice cracking from the strain.
"Help!! Me.. Meili... please," she begged, her eyes pleading with the motionless form. But Meili lay still, her battered body a grim testament to Jax's brutality.
As Jax's assault intensified, his men watched in silence, their faces impassive. Isabella's world began to fade, her vision blurring as her consciousness slipped away.
"No... I can't won't it... it's over," Isabella whispered to herself, her thoughts a desperate admission of defeat.
One of Jax's men stepped forward, his eyes fixed on the brutal scene before him. He reached out and placed a restraining hand on Jax's shoulder.
"Enough, Jax," he said, his voice low and controlled. "We need to get on with the mission."
Jax's rage-fueled frenzy slowly subsided, his chest heaving with exertion. He stepped back, his eyes never leaving Isabella's battered form. "Fine," he growled, his voice dripping with venom. "Let's get this over with."
The men exchanged nods, and Jax's demeanor shifted from brutal to calculating.
Jax barked out orders to his men, his voice cold and detached. "You two, take care of these two. Make sure they're... disposed of properly." Two of his men nodded, their faces expressionless, as they moved to drag Meili and Isabella's battered bodies away.
Jax watched for a moment, his eyes lingering on the two girls before he turned away. "The rest of you, with me. We have a village to take care of." With a swift motion, Jax led the majority of his men towards the village, leaving the two girls to their fate.
The two men, tasked with disposing of Meili and Isabella's bodies, dragged them deeper into the forest, following Jax's orders. As they walked, they exchanged a fleeting glance.
"Stupid girl, thinking she could pull up a stunt like that and get away with it," one of them sneered, kicking Isabella's limp form. "So pathetic."
The other man snorted, his eyes rolling in disdain. "And don't even get me started on the warrior-in-training over here," he said, gesturing to Meili. "She's got skills, I'll give her that, but I wasn't impressed."
Their conversation took a darker turn as they continued. "You know, the boss could really take it down a notch with kids," one of them asked, his voice low. "Ruthless, man. He's got no qualms about taking out anyone who gets in his way."
The other man nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Jax doesn't play by the rules. He's a law unto himself." They continued to drag the bodies, their conversation dying down as they focused on their grim task, Jax and the others having already headed towards the village to carry out their mission...
The two men, grunting with effort, dragged Meili's battered body towards the waterfall's edge. "Hey, help me out here," one of them called out, struggling to hold onto Meili's limp form. "Let's get this over with."
The other man moved to assist, and together they positioned Meili's body for the final throw. But just as they were about to fling her into the waterfall, Meili's body suddenly convulsed, releasing a burst of violent energy.
The men stumbled backward, confused and caught off guard, as Meili's body began to rise from the ground, her back facing them. Her movements were stiff and jerky, like a puppet on strings.
"What the...?" one of the men trailed off, his eyes wide with confusion. "She's supposed to be out cold," he muttered, taking a step back as Meili's body continued to twitch and convulse...
WHOOSH
The sound of rushing water filled the air as the two men's bodies crumpled to the ground, their heads severed in a single, swift motion. Meili's back was still to them, her body rigid and tense.
For a moment, there was silence, except for the roar of the waterfall. Then, without warning, Meili's body relaxed, and she slowly turned to face the two lifeless bodies.
Her eyes, once closed in pain and exhaustion, now blazed with a fierce intensity. A small, enigmatic smile played on her lips as she surveyed the carnage before her...
