The memo arrived on a Thursday morning, which was already a bad sign.
Evelyn had been at Blackstone Corp for exactly three days. She had submitted two pieces of work, both well-received, and had begun to feel cautiously optimistic about the entire situation.
Then the memo landed in her inbox at 9:04 a.m., signed at the bottom with two stark initials: EB.
She read it once, eyes narrowed. She picked up her coffee, took a long sip, and read it a second time. It did not get any better.
The memo contained, in order: one internal communications audit — fifty pages of existing material that needed reviewing, annotating, restructuring, and summarising into a new executive format. Plus two stakeholder briefings that had apparently been written by someone with no understanding of either stakeholders or briefings. They needed complete rewrites from the source material. And that was just the beginning.
