Enzo sat at the head of the long conference table, two senior managers flanking him. He said nothing throughout the entire presentation. His dark eyes stayed fixed on Evelyn's slides, expression unreadable, gloved hands resting on the table.
When she finished and opened the floor for questions, she handled the first two challenges smoothly. The managers nodded, offered positive feedback, and began wrapping up with clear approval in their voices.
Evelyn kept stealing glances at Enzo the whole time.
At the very end, just as the managers were expressing their satisfaction, Enzo reached up with one gloved hand and scratched the back of his neck — once, quick, contained, almost automatic. The gesture lasted less than a second, but Evelyn noticed it. The precise spot, the exact motion… it was identical to the way Dog used to do it.
Like owner, like dog, she thought, nodding to herself.
