The chance to see his parents again? Haru would take this chance to make himself worthy of them.
"How would it work?" he asked, curiosity mingling with hope. Haru figured, he needed to lock in and get down to business. The more information he could gather, the better off he'd be and not get himself killed.
Priscilla looked at her brother. "You died as expected in my realm, though your relatives' interference was a bit of a… surprise. However, it was in Dimitri's realm that your death was unexpected."
Dimitri got up and stood, looking into the distance of a giant glass panel that reveled the cosmos themselves. His tone grew serious. A stark contrast to his earlier demeanor.
"Let me be frank. You are actually quite insignificant. But something has happened on one of my worlds. Anomalies, if you will. I can sense them but can't see what they are. Therein lies the anomaly and the loophole. I can't directly go there to investigate, so that's going to be your job. It's also how we are able to pull this off. By you dying in my realm before your time and coincidentally dying in Priscilla's, we're able to reincarnate you. But she is the only one who was able to retrieve your life force; I couldn't. So don't consider yourself special."
Haru listened intently. He was onboard until the last line. 'Gee, way to lay it out easily. You could've said that a bit nicer,' Haru thought.
Priscilla glared at Dimitri, who shrugged and quickly chimed in before getting a scolding from his sister. "We do need you to do this. If you agree, you will retain all memories of your previous life and also see your parents again. Is that not the reason you killed yourself to begin with?" Haru became lost in his thoughts. While it wasn't entirely the only reason, now that his mind had cleared a bit, he could see how much it really played a part.
Dimitri snapped him back. "But you can also say no, and your death will be definite. The fate of a world left up to chance. Your choice."
Haru was already going to do it. The last few months, he had lived without purpose and was like a tumbleweed blowing in the wind. But now he actually had a goal. Something that wouldn't undo those months of depression and self-pity but perhaps lead him to a path of possible redemption for himself.
Dimitri nodded. "Good. Glad to see you aren't completely worthless. Now pay attention. Theres a couple of things you should know. The world you're going to is ripe with magic. You will experience things you've never thought possible. Beasts, equipment, much more advanced than your old world. I cannot stress this enough, tread carefully. Although the world is similar, it is also different. Villages and towns can be the size of counties in your world. Kingdoms the size of continents. It is about three times the size of your world. Also know that by you being a reincarnate, you will have the ability to speak with me. But do not do this unless there's something of significance to report. You are not supposed to be there, and if you open the path too long, the gatekeeper will know you don't belong and be able to track you. We cannot guide you. Every choice and decision will be yours to make. So will be the consequences. If you die there, you are on your own. There won't be another chance."
Haru was visibly nervous about what he was about to encounter. He had read fantasy novels and never really considered magic ever being a real thing. He had so many questions, but as they said, they had little time. He could only expect to ready himself for what he might encounter and hope for the best.
"Anything else I should know?" he asked.
Dimitri thought about it. "Oh right...take this." Out of nowhere, a small, square black box materialized in his hand. He then tossed it to Haru. It was pure black with random swirls of light coursing through it.
Haru looked at the box and wondered what could be in it.
"It's a dimensional storage box. It has an almost infinite amount of space. I've taken the liberty to pre-add items: some health potions, a transponder band to communicate with me, and a stealth cloak. The band is a divine item, however, I've masked it signature and power output so it will look like an ordinary magic braclet to others."
"Isn't this the definition of intervening?" Haru asked, puzzled.
Dimitri shook his head. "You aren't alive in any world, so it's okay. I am not breaking rules as you technically do not exist. I've also added a magic awakening stone. It contains a magical power. What power? I don't know. Although I could've imprinted something, it's better to be left to chance so You'll have to figure it out yourself. Just don't destroy anything if it turns out to be too overpowered. Also, don't use it until you're there."
Haru thought to himself. "Isn't that a bit irresponsible?"
Priscilla giggled at the l mere thought of her brother, a celestial being, getting lectured by a mortal on being responsible . "Welcome to the reality of celestial politics, Haru. Sometimes, rules bend in the face of necessity. What may seem absurd to you, is common place for us as we view things through different lenses.
