Birds chirping in melodious harmony.....green trees rustling in the soft embrace of the caressing breeze.....the smell of dew-covered spring grass.....and the touch of a long, bristly tongue.....?
"Wait, what the heck!?"
A young man with dark hair opened his eyes in a hurry and found himself face to face with a brown, furry face. "Aaaahhhh"! Startled, the animal rolled back, revealing its plump figure. "Oh, it's just a cute bear cub".
The round ball of fur looked at him with its black, wide eyes, button nose twitching in curiosity as to what this new creature it had stumbled upon was.
Wait, bear cub? Why is there a bear cub!? I remember that I was at home.
The man looks around in surprise.
The serene, picturesque scene entrances him. "This….is beautiful". He was in a grassy clearing around the size of a house. There was a small waterfall flowing down into a bubbling brook at his left, and trees all around him. It was vibrant with life. The tree leaves illuminated by the morning sun, birds flitting around with vigor, deer in the woods prancing with joy. He was calm again, all worries freed from his mind.
Disregarding the cub for a moment, he continued to sit there, his eyes closed, feeling the warmth of the sun trickling up his body....his hands, face, and eyelids all becoming comfortable. His shirt and pants warmed up as well, not at all stuffy or humid, but a clear warmth that raised the hair on his legs as it flowed with the crisp, cool air.
Now let me gather my thoughts. First, who am I? Wait why am I even asking this question? It's not like I'm suffering from amnesia right? I am.....huh? What's my name? It's at the tip of my tongue, dancing in my mind, yet I can't reach it. Do I really have Amnesia?!
He snorted in wry humor. I jinxed myself didn't I? Alright, that's a big problem.
Sweat dripped from his temples, all traces of calmness dispersed. I don't even know my own name?! He could feel his heart speeding up, him in disbelief. Calm down. Look around, and it will be alright.....so, .....so it seems I was kidnapped from my house, and brought into a.....a nature reserve!? That doesn't make sense! What kind of sicko is mentally retarded enough to drop someone off, even as a prank, in the middle of the wilderness? Isn't there supposed to be an abandoned warehouse where I'm blindfolded and tied to a chair?
What the heck? Guess I'll just go with the flow. And this is certainly more beautiful than a warehouse.
Anyway, what's with this bear cub? The cub was rolling around in front of him, soft belly up, its pink and black skin barely visible through its fur.. The man suddenly had the urge to pet the bear, but quickly retracted his hand and thought to himself, "Who knows where this bear has been, what diseases it has, or, or…."-the bear itself clambered onto him. He froze, but the cub had no intention of leaving. Rather it stumbled around on his stomach, sniffing and snorting. The bear looked at him with innocent, bright eyes. The man couldn't help but smile.
He cautiously lifted the bear cub off of him, feeling its fuzzy and bristly coat, putting it down next to him. But before he could get up, the bear climbed back up onto him. When he tried again, it protested with grunts.
Well, I need to survey the area, and his claws are dug into my shirt, a bit painful if I do say so myself. He snorted lightly.
The protagonist picked up the cub and strolled around the clearing to acquire a better foothold on his surroundings. He only found fruitless trees and berryless bushes. "I'm in deep trouble, there are no signs of food anywhere....other than this bear cub at least. Just Kidd-" A massive shadow suddenly covered him.
A thud rang out throughout the forest, scaring the birds, and our protagonist dropped to the floor, dead.
