Chapter 132 - Chapter 132: GDSS Philadelphia

The GDSS Philadelphia.

High above Earth, suspended in the silent expanse of space, the colossal orbital command station maintained its watch over the planet below.

As the Global Defense Initiative's primary global command and control center, the Philadelphia was far more than a military installation. It served as the central link between GDI's Earth Division and Space Division, coordinating worldwide operations, overseeing orbital assets, and directing military forces wherever they were needed.

Its immense, modular structure was a testament to GDI's technological prowess. Vast sections of white and grey armored plating formed its sprawling hull, interspersed with circular docking ports, reinforced modules, and sophisticated sensor arrays. The iconic golden eagle insignia was emblazoned across its exterior, marking the station as the heart of GDI's global military network.

Yet its impressive appearance concealed an even more formidable defensive architecture.

Powerful defensive emplacements were integrated throughout the station, supported by the most advanced anti-satellite and anti-ballistic missile systems in GDI's arsenal. Following the catastrophic lessons of the Third Tiberium War, GDI had fundamentally redesigned the station's defensive infrastructure, ensuring that control of its orbital defenses remained aboard the station itself rather than depending on vulnerable external systems.

The result was a fortress in orbit.

An advanced protective shield enveloped the Philadelphia, capable of withstanding devastating attacks from high-energy lasers and even nuclear missiles. Combined with its defensive weapons and interception systems, the station was designed to survive threats that would annihilate lesser orbital installations.

But the Philadelphia was not built merely to endure attacks.

It was built to command, coordinate, and project GDI's power across the world.

Its lower sections housed specialized facilities for deploying tactical drop pods, allowing troops and equipment to descend directly to the planet's surface. Extensive research laboratories and maintenance bays supported the development, construction, and repair of advanced military technologies.

Among its most important responsibilities was maintaining GDI's orbital Ion Cannon network.

At present, one of the Ion Cannon satellites was undergoing its final maintenance checks before deployment into orbit. Android engineers and automated maintenance drones worked in coordinated precision around the enormous weapon platform, inspecting its targeting systems, power distribution, and weapon components.

Every connection was checked. Every system was tested.

The satellite would not be launched until the engineering teams were satisfied that it could perform its mission without fault.

Elsewhere, the station's integrated Mark III Chronosphere provided GDI with another strategic advantage. Through its advanced spatial-transportation technology, the station could deploy personnel and equipment across vast distances without relying on conventional transportation routes.

The Philadelphia was therefore not only the command center of GDI's orbital forces but also a strategic transportation hub, capable of supporting military operations across the planet.

To power its immense infrastructure, the station incorporated extensive solar arrays alongside a new-generation Element Ark Reactor. The solar panels harvested energy directly from the sun, while the reactor provided a powerful, reliable source of energy for the station's advanced systems, including its shields, defensive weapons, and Chronosphere.

Despite its military purpose, the station had also been designed to accommodate its personnel comfortably.

Artificial gravity maintained a standard terrestrial environment throughout most of its inhabited sections. Officers could walk through corridors, attend briefings, and work in laboratories without requiring specialized equipment. Dedicated zero-gravity compartments remained available for personnel and operations that benefited from weightlessness.

The main command center was particularly impressive.

A vast control bridge occupied the heart of the station, lined with holographic projectors, tactical displays, and rows of advanced terminals. Enormous viewing windows overlooked Earth, revealing its blue oceans, sprawling continents, and swirling white clouds against the darkness of space.

From here, GDI's leadership could monitor global developments, coordinate military deployments, and oversee operations across multiple theaters simultaneously.

The Philadelphia had become the meeting point of two domains: the Earth Division, responsible for operations on the planet, and the Space Division, which controlled GDI's orbital infrastructure and space-based assets.

Personnel, intelligence, technology, and resources flowed between the two divisions through this central hub.

And among the station's many facilities was a specialized installation dedicated to one of GDI's most remarkable capabilities.

The Chronoshift platform.

Extending from a reinforced connecting bridge toward the main station, the platform was designed to receive personnel and equipment transported through GDI's Chronoshift network. Its broad metallic surface was enclosed by a half-dome-shaped energy structure, with docking ports, accessways, and power conduits connecting it to the station's internal systems.

The platform drew its power and operational support from the station's built-in Mark III Chronosphere, allowing authorized personnel to travel between designated locations through controlled spatial displacement.

Maintenance drones floated around the structure, inspecting its components and performing routine diagnostics. Their mechanical arms moved with meticulous precision, while small work lights illuminated the platform's framework.

Everything was proceeding normally.

Until the platform's energy readings suddenly began to climb.

A warning indicator flashed across a nearby console.

The maintenance drones immediately changed course, vacating the designated arrival zone as the Chronoshift system detected an incoming connection.

Power surged through the platform.

The half-dome shimmered as energy gathered within its confines. The air appeared to ripple, and a circular distortion spread across the metallic surface as the station synchronized with the incoming signal.

Lines of light raced along the platform, converging toward its center.

Space itself seemed to bend inward.

Then—

WHOOOOSH!

Five figures emerged from the brilliant flash of light.

Yuuki Yukihira stood at the center of the platform, his white coat shifting in the residual energy currents as the teleportation field dissipated around him.

Yuu stood beside him, looking as composed as ever.

San Diego, however, was still clinging tightly to Yuuki, apparently having no intention of letting go even after the journey had ended. Eldridge remained attached to Yuu like an affectionate koala, her little arms wrapped around the doctor.

Cinderella stood beside them, smiling brightly at her Prince as though she had done nothing unusual.

For several seconds, the five remained within the arrival zone while the Chronoshift system completed its final verification checks.

Then the surrounding energy field faded, and the platform returned to standby mode.

Yuuki looked down at San Diego.

Then he glanced at Eldridge, who had yet to release Yuu.

Finally, he turned toward Cinderella.

"...You know, I was supposed to come here to work."

Cinderella smiled sweetly.

"But I wanted to accompany my Prince."

"Of course you did."

San Diego beamed up at him.

"Sandy wanted to come, too!"

Eldridge tilted her head against Yuu.

"Doctor... warm."

Yuu let out a soft sigh, although she didn't seem particularly bothered by the situation.

"Well, at least we all arrived safely."

Yuuki stared at the three Shipgirls for another moment before rubbing his forehead.

"I'm going to hear about this from Yorktown later, aren't I?"

Yuu smiled.

"Almost certainly."

A maintenance drone approached, its optical sensor scanning the five arrivals. After confirming their identities, it transmitted the results to the station's systems. Nearby consoles returned to their normal operating states, and the platform's status indicators shifted from arrival mode to standby.

Beyond the station's reinforced observation windows, Earth continued its silent rotation beneath them.

The GDSS Philadelphia had received its High Commander.

Unfortunately for Yuuki, it had also received three unexpected passengers who had apparently decided that his working day would be much more enjoyable if they accompanied him.

He could only sigh.

"Well, I cant send you back to Earth. Right. Let's get to the command center. I've got a lot of work to do."

San Diego finally loosened her grip, although she remained close enough to follow him immediately.

"Okay! Sandy's coming!"

Eldridge nodded.

"Eldridge, too."

Cinderella moved to Yuuki's other side, her smile never fading.

"And I shall remain with my Prince."

Yuuki turned toward Yuu.

Yuu merely smirked.

"Don't look at me. You brought this upon yourself."

"...Wonderful."

With that, the five left the Chronoshift platform and headed toward the main station. Behind them, the maintenance drones resumed their work, preparing the facility for its next arrival.

They had barely made it across the connecting bridge when San Diego suddenly stopped in her tracks.

"Wahhh! Look! We're in space!"

She pointed excitedly toward the enormous observation windows lining the bridge to the command center. Beyond the reinforced glass, the blue planet stretched across the darkness. White clouds drifted over vast oceans, while sunlight illuminated the continents below.

Eldridge gazed at the view in silence for a moment.

"So big."

Cinderella stood beside her, admiring the breathtaking scenery with a gentle smile.

"Yes. It's beautiful. The Earth looks so peaceful from up here."

For a brief moment, even Yuuki paused to appreciate the view. There was something undeniably remarkable about seeing the world from orbit. From this distance, national borders, political disputes, and the countless conflicts raging across the planet seemed insignificant.

Unfortunately, the peaceful atmosphere didn't last long.

San Diego had already taken out her device and begun snapping pictures.

Click! Click! Click!

She photographed the Earth from several angles, then turned the camera toward herself and her two companions.

"Okay, everyone! Let's take a selfie!"

Before either Eldridge or Cinderella could respond, Sandy squeezed between them, wrapped an arm around each of them, and struck an enthusiastic pose.

Click!

"Perfect!"

Apparently satisfied with the result, San Diego immediately uploaded the pictures to GDIgram.

Yuuki happened to glance at the holographic interface floating beside her.

He stopped walking.

"...Sandy, did you just post those pictures?"

"Yup!" San Diego answered cheerfully. "Look how pretty Earth is! Everyone needs to see this!"

Yuuki stared at her for a moment before releasing a long, weary sigh.

He could already imagine what was about to happen.

And sure enough, the notifications began pouring in.

One after another, comments flooded the post. Some admired the breathtaking view of Earth, while others immediately recognized the three girls who had managed to sneak aboard the Chronoshift at the last possible moment.

The fleet already knew exactly how the trio had pulled it off. San Diego and Eldridge had clung to Yuuki and Yuu, respectively, while Cinderella had seized the opportunity to accompany her beloved Prince.

It had been an underhanded trick, and everyone knew it.

What made matters worse was that their plan had actually worked.

San Diego and Eldridge had become the first Shipgirls to visit the GDSS Philadelphia and see Earth from orbit, while Cinderella had made history as the first Nikke to set foot aboard GDI's orbital command station.

Naturally, their fellow Shipgirls and Nikkes were green with envy.

The comments began appearing one after another.

=============

EnterpriseCV6:I knew you three had latched onto the Commander and Yuu at the last second, but I didn't think you'd actually get away with it!

YorktownMom:Sandy, Eldridge, Cindy... I hope you're enjoying yourselves. We'll have a little talk when you return.

Belmaid:My, my. What a clever little scheme. I must admit, I'm a little envious that you managed to get there before the rest of us.

KaguyaLittleMoon:Dearest! Thou hast taken three lucky girls to the heavens, and I was left behind?! Unforgivable! I demand a place on thy next journey!

AkagiShikikanWife:Shikikan-sama, I cannot believe you left without bringing me along. ❤️ I shall expect compensation when you return.

KagaWorthy:Nee-sama, we cannot blame Shikikan-sama entirely. Those three deliberately waited until the last moment. Still... I would have liked to go as well.

LaffeyBunny:Commander went to space without Laffey... Unfair. Laffey wants to see Earth, too...

JavelinCrown:You three are so sneaky! You actually managed to get onto the Chronoshift platform before anyone could stop you! I want to go next time!

Nimi23:I must acknowledge that your timing was impeccable. However, exploiting the last possible moment to secure passage is hardly a proper way to arrange an expedition.

EugenPeach:Oh, how devious! Sneaking onto a trip with the Commander and getting to see Earth from space before everyone else? I'm almost impressed. Almost.

HipperIronBlood:YOU THREE CHEATED! WE ALL WANTED TO GO! HOW DID YOU EVEN MANAGE TO PULL THAT OFF?!

Atagowoof:Ara, ara. How fortunate! Takao and I would certainly love to accompany the Commander on his next trip. Perhaps we should prepare ourselves in advance?

TakaoKatana:Atago-nee! Don't you dare suggest that we cling to the Commander at the last second! We should ask properly!

UnicornCute:B-Big Brother went to space... Unicorn wants to see him, too...

IllyRoyal:What a beautiful sight! I am delighted that you could experience it, but I must admit that I would love to see the Earth from such a wonderful place myself.

RapiCommandersWife:Commander, I understand that they grabbed onto you during the Chronoshift. However, I would appreciate being given the same opportunity in the future.

AnisTTStar:ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! THEY JUST CLUNG TO YOU AT THE LAST SECOND AND GOT A FREE TRIP TO SPACE?! I SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT!

NeonFirepower:SPACE! I MISSED MY CHANCE TO SEE A REAL ORBITAL STATION! NEXT TIME, I'M COMING! ALSO, DOES THE PHILADELPHIA HAVE SPACE-BASED FIREPOWER?!

NayutaPilgrim:How amusing. Three opportunists have claimed the first places in orbit. This one wonder how many more will attempt the same trick.

=================

San Diego stared at the screen, her eyes widening as the comments multiplied.

Then she grinned.

"Wow! Everyone's commenting already! Look, Eldridge! They're jealous!"

Eldridge leaned closer to examine the screen.

"Everyone... wants to come?"

"Of course they do!" Sandy declared proudly. "We're the first ones here! Well, the first Shipgirls, anyway!"

Cinderella smiled gracefully.

"And I am the first Nikke to visit the Philadelphia. That is certainly something worth remembering."

She glanced toward Yuuki, her expression becoming even more affectionate.

"Especially since I was able to accompany my Prince."

Yuuki pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Wonderful. Just wonderful."

He could practically feel the headache forming.

The problem wasn't that the others wanted to visit the Philadelphia. He had no objection to arranging visits when circumstances permitted. The station was an important part of GDI's infrastructure, and he understood why the girls would be curious about it.

No, the problem was that three opportunists had discovered a way to bypass his plans simply by clinging to him and Yuu at the last possible moment.

And now everyone else knew about it.

Worse, they had proof that the trick worked.

Yuuki could already imagine a dozen Shipgirls trying the same thing the next time he prepared to use the Chronoshift.

He looked at San Diego.

"Sandy, you do realize you've just given everyone ideas, right?"

"Hmm?" She tilted her head. "Ideas about what?"

"About grabbing onto me before I leave."

"Oh!" San Diego grinned. "Well, they can try! Sandy got here first!"

"That's not the point!"

Eldridge quietly nodded.

"Eldridge... got here first, too."

"You're not helping, Eldridge."

Yuu, meanwhile, was enjoying herself far too much.

"You know, chief, you could have avoided this by making sure nobody was holding onto us before activating the Chronoshift."

Yuuki slowly turned toward her.

"Thank you, Yuu. Your advice is invaluable. I'll be sure to remember it next time."

"I'm glad you appreciate it."

"I don't."

Cinderella covered her mouth, giggling softly.

"Ufufu. My Prince, you must admit that our little journey has been quite successful."

"Successful for you three, perhaps."

"Then I shall consider it a victory."

Yuuki sighed again.

Meanwhile, the comments continued to arrive. More Shipgirls and Nikkes began expressing their envy, some joking that they should have grabbed onto Yuuki themselves, while others demanded that he arrange an official visit to the station.

=============

SodaPopMaid:Soda wants to go, too! Maybe the Philadelphia has a kitchen where Soda can make snacks for everyone!

CocoaCrunch:Cocoa wants to visit! Cocoa will be good!

DoctorVestal:I'd love to examine the station's medical facilities. GDI's technology could provide valuable insights for our work.

MaryPretty:A visit to the medical section would certainly be worthwhile. I would appreciate the opportunity to study the facilities.

Akashinyaa:Akashi wants to see the Philadelphia, nya! Maybe there's some amazing technology to study there, nya!

HoushouSakura:It would be wonderful to see the Earth from above. I hope we can arrange a proper visit when circumstances permit.

YorktownMom:Yuuki, I hope you're keeping those three out of trouble. And please don't let anyone else try this stunt when you return.

===================

Yuuki stared at Yorktown's latest comment for several seconds.

"...She's already anticipating the next disaster."

Yuu smiled sympathetically.

"She knows the girls. And she knows you."

"I didn't invite them!"

"I'm sure that distinction will be very comforting to her."

Yuuki gave her a flat look.

Yuu merely smiled back.

Finally, Yuuki raised a hand, and a new comment appeared beneath San Diego's increasingly popular post.

=================

YuukiAwesome:For the record, the three of you were not officially invited. I'll arrange proper visits when the situation allows it. The Philadelphia is an active military command station, not a tourist attraction. All visits must be scheduled, security procedures must be followed, and nobody is to wander into restricted areas. Understood?

=================

For a moment, the responses slowed.

Then the excitement returned in full force.

=================

JavelinCrown:Understood! I'll be waiting for the official invitation!

NeonFirepower:I'M GOING TO SEE SPACE-BASED FIREPOWER!

KaguyaLittleMoon:Dearest, thou shalt reserve a place for me. I shall hold thee to thy words!

AkagiShikikanWife:I'll be expecting an invitation, Shikikan-sama. ❤️

EnterpriseCV6:Commander, please coordinate with Yorktown before making any arrangements. And no more surprise passengers.

YorktownMom:Agreed.

=================

Yuuki stared at the last reply.

"...She's still watching."

"Of course she is," Yuu said.

San Diego beamed at him.

"Then it's settled! Everyone gets to visit the Philadelphia someday!"

"That's not exactly what I said, Sandy."

"But you didn't say no!"

Yuuki opened his mouth, paused, then closed it again.

Unfortunately, she had a point.

Cinderella gently took his arm.

"Perhaps you should consider it, my Prince. The girls are clearly interested, and I believe a properly organized visit would make them very happy."

"I was already considering it. I just wasn't planning on having my departure hijacked to make the point."

Eldridge tugged lightly at Yuu's sleeve.

"Yuu... next time, more friends?"

Yuu looked at Yuuki.

"See? Even Eldridge wants you to arrange it properly."

Yuuki stared at the three girls, then at the endless stream of comments demanding trips to the orbital station.

He had come to the Philadelphia to finish several critical projects before their upcoming operation in Lawless City. Instead, within minutes of arriving, his unexpected passengers had turned a routine visit into a fleet-wide discussion about orbital tourism.

And now every Shipgirl and Nikke aboard the Daedalus knew that latching onto him at the last second was a proven method of getting into space.

Yuuki let out one final, deeply exhausted sigh.

"I'm never going to hear the end of this, am I?"

"Nope!" San Diego replied cheerfully.

"Probably not," Yuu agreed.

Cinderella smiled and leaned a little closer to her Prince.

"Then let us enjoy our little victory while we can."

Eldridge nodded.

"Space... nice."

Yuuki looked toward Earth through the observation windows.

It was a beautiful sight, certainly.

But as he watched the notifications continue to pile up, he couldn't help thinking that the view from orbit was going to be the least of his concerns when he returned to the Daedalus.

Yorktown was waiting.

And judging by the comments, so was everyone else.

=======

Not long after, a sleek, futuristic hover car arrived to collect Yuuki and Yuu.

The vehicle glided silently through the station's access corridor, its streamlined body composed of polished metallic panels and illuminated accents. Its doors opened automatically as it stopped before them, revealing a spacious, luxurious interior equipped with comfortable seats and a sophisticated holographic control interface.

It had been dispatched specifically for the High Commander and GDI's Head Doctor.

The transport system, however, had not anticipated three unexpected passengers.

The vehicle's onboard AI scanned the group.

Passenger count updated: Five occupants.

Yuuki glanced at the display.

"...Of course."

San Diego beamed as she peered into the vehicle.

"Whoa! Is this our ride? It's so cool!"

Eldridge quietly climbed inside after Yuu, immediately settling beside her.

"Car... futuristic."

Cinderella followed with an elegant smile, taking a seat where she could remain close to her Prince.

Yuuki looked at the three of them, then at Yuu.

"Well, they're already here. No point making them walk."

"Especially since the Philadelphia is enormous," Yuu replied as she settled into the passenger seat beside him. "Getting around on foot would take ages."

That was no exaggeration.

Although the Philadelphia was primarily an orbital command station, its sheer scale meant that traveling between major facilities could be a lengthy undertaking. The central command center, research complexes, residential districts, maintenance bays, docking facilities, and numerous other installations occupied an immense amount of space.

The hover cars provided an efficient way to travel between these locations without interrupting ongoing operations.

Yuuki slid into the driver's seat, and the vehicle's control interface illuminated beneath his hands.

"Everyone settled?"

"Ready!" Sandy answered enthusiastically.

Eldridge nodded.

"Ready."

Cinderella smiled at him.

"Whenever you are, my Prince."

Yuuki activated the vehicle.

The doors closed, and the hover car rose smoothly from the ground. Its propulsion system hummed softly as it accelerated into the main transit corridor, following a route projected across the windshield.

Then Yuuki took manual control.

Yuu turned toward him, her eyes lighting up.

"Since we're here, why not take a trip?"

Yuuki glanced at her.

"That's what I was thinking."

He adjusted the controls, guiding the hover car away from the direct route to the command center.

"Family trip!"

Yuu announced it with such excitement that Yuuki couldn't help smiling.

"Family trip it is."

San Diego immediately leaned forward between the seats.

"Wait, wait! We're going sightseeing?!"

"That's the plan," Yuuki replied.

"Wahhh! Awesome!"

Eldridge's eyes followed the scenery beyond the windows.

"Family... trip."

Cinderella clasped her hands together, visibly delighted.

"A little excursion with my Prince. What a wonderful turn of events."

"Just don't expect me to give you the keys," Yuuki said.

Cinderella giggled.

"Of course not, my Prince."

The hover car emerged from the transit corridor into one of the Philadelphia's central districts.

And the moment the view opened before them, the three girls fell silent.

The interior of the orbital station was nothing like the industrial military installation they had imagined.

Instead of endless grey corridors, exposed machinery, and rows of utilitarian buildings, a breathtaking futuristic city stretched out before them.

It was a luxurious complex designed to accommodate GDI's senior officers, essential personnel, and authorized members in comfort. The district combined advanced technology with the atmosphere of an exclusive resort, complete with elegant architecture, landscaped gardens, entertainment facilities, and recreational spaces.

Tall buildings with gleaming glass façades rose beneath an enormous curved ceiling. Holographic displays floated above broad pedestrian avenues, presenting information, advertisements, and decorative projections in brilliant colors. Artificial sunlight illuminated carefully maintained flower beds, while small fountains sent sparkling streams of water into ornamental pools.

Trees lined the walkways, their leaves gently stirring in the climate-controlled breeze. Flowers bloomed in carefully arranged gardens, their vibrant colors standing out against the sleek architecture surrounding them.

Beyond the buildings, vast observation windows revealed the planet below.

Earth.

Its blue oceans and swirling clouds provided a magnificent backdrop to the futuristic city, making it seem as though the entire district had been built between the heavens and the stars.

Lights shimmered across the streets. Autonomous service robots moved between buildings, while small transport vehicles glided along designated routes. Restaurants, cafés, shops, lounges, and recreational facilities occupied the lower levels of several structures, their entrances marked by elegant holographic signs.

There were even quiet garden terraces overlooking Earth, where residents could sit and enjoy the view without being disturbed by the bustle of the station's operational sections.

It was a city within a fortress.

A luxurious resort suspended in orbit.

And for a moment, it felt less like a military installation and more like stepping into the future itself.

San Diego pressed both hands against the window.

"SO BEAUTIFUL!"

Her voice echoed through the vehicle.

"Look at all the lights! And the holograms! And the flowers! They have gardens in space!"

Eldridge stared at a cluster of illuminated trees beside a broad avenue.

"Flowers... in space."

Cinderella's eyes sparkled as she took in the elegant buildings and carefully maintained gardens.

"It's magnificent. A futuristic city among the stars, with the Earth as its backdrop... I never imagined such a place could exist."

She turned toward Yuuki, her expression filled with admiration.

"My Prince, you truly have a remarkable home."

Yuuki chuckled.

"This is only one section of the station."

"Only one section?" Sandy exclaimed. "How big is this place?!"

"Big enough that you shouldn't try exploring it without a guide."

"That's practically an invitation to explore!"

"That's precisely why I said it."

Yuu laughed from the passenger seat.

"She's going to remember that."

"Unfortunately, I know."

The hover car continued along the avenue, passing a row of cafés and restaurants. Through their windows, the girls could see comfortable seating, elegant decorations, and automated service systems preparing meals for the station's residents.

Further ahead, a large recreational complex featured indoor sports courts, swimming facilities, and entertainment halls. Beyond it stood a shopping district filled with boutiques and specialty stores, their displays illuminated by holographic projections.

The entire area had been designed to provide its inhabitants with almost everything they might need without requiring them to leave the station.

It was meant to be a comfortable, self-sufficient home for GDI's senior personnel and their families.

Yet, despite its grandeur, the district felt strangely quiet.

There were no crowds filling the avenues, no long queues outside restaurants, and no bustling masses moving between shops. The service robots performed their duties efficiently, but the number of actual residents was remarkably small.

San Diego noticed it first.

"Hey, Commander. How come there aren't many people here?"

Yuuki's expression softened slightly.

"Because most of the people who were supposed to live here aren't around anymore."

The girls turned toward him.

Yuuki continued driving, his eyes following the road ahead.

"The Philadelphia was designed to accommodate a much larger population. Officers, engineers, researchers, administrative personnel, and their families. It was supposed to be a comfortable place for the people responsible for running GDI's orbital operations."

He gestured toward the surrounding district.

"This area was built for them. Somewhere they could relax after work, spend time with their families, shop, exercise, or simply enjoy themselves without worrying about military duties."

Yuu rested an arm against the door.

"But these days, the station's permanent population is much smaller. Most of the work that once required large numbers of human personnel has been automated, and many of the people who would have lived here aren't part of our current operations since we left Earth 1.0 and Earth 2.0."

"Which leaves us with an enormous station and relatively few residents," Yuuki added. "Vergil, Yuu, myself, the GDI researchers, and the small staff who live here make up most of the permanent population."

Eldridge tilted her head.

"Quiet..."

"Very quiet," Yuu agreed.

Cinderella looked out at the beautiful gardens and elegant buildings.

"Such a lovely place, yet so few people to enjoy it."

"That's one way to put it," Yuuki replied.

He didn't sound particularly troubled by the situation. The station's automated systems maintained the facilities, and its essential functions continued operating normally. Still, the contrast between the district's luxurious design and its sparse population was difficult to ignore.

San Diego watched a group of service robots tending to a flower bed.

"So this whole place is for GDI members?"

"Authorized personnel and their families," Yuuki clarified. "It's not a public resort. Access is restricted, and the operational areas have their own security requirements."

Yuu glanced at him with a mischievous smile.

"Didn't you tell everyone earlier that the Philadelphia wasn't a tourist center?"

"Because it isn't."

Yuuki gestured toward the resort district.

"But that doesn't mean we can't have comfortable facilities for our own people. We're running a military organization, not a prison. Our personnel need places to relax, too."

He guided the hover car around a broad curve, revealing another avenue lined with illuminated trees and elegant buildings.

"Besides, if we're going to have people stationed here for long periods, why shouldn't they have a good quality of life? They work hard. They deserve somewhere comfortable to return to. Plus, if we have more shipgirls, nikkes and Kancolle shipgirls... our staff will soon expand. At least, they have a home here other than Earth."

Yuu nodded enthusiastically.

"Exactly! A luxurious command center with gardens, entertainment, shops, and a view of Earth. What's not to like?"

"Nothing!" San Diego declared immediately.

Eldridge nodded.

"Nice place."

Cinderella smiled warmly at Yuuki.

"And now that we've arrived, I hope you'll allow us to enjoy it a little before returning to your work."

Yuuki glanced at her in the rearview display.

"That was the idea."

He turned the hover car toward a quieter avenue overlooking one of the district's largest gardens. Beyond the flower beds, an enormous observation window offered an uninterrupted view of Earth, its blue surface gleaming beneath the sunlight.

The vehicle glided past a series of holographic displays, their colorful projections reflecting across the polished bodywork.

Inside the car, San Diego was practically bouncing in her seat.

"Can we stop somewhere? I want to take more pictures!"

"Of course," Yuuki replied.

"Got it!"

Eldridge leaned toward the window, watching the scenery pass by.

"Yuu... pretty flowers."

"Would you like to stop and look at them?"

Eldridge nodded.

"Mm."

Yuu turned toward Yuuki with an expectant smile.

"Looks like we have our first destination."

Yuuki sighed dramatically, though the smile on his face betrayed him.

"So much for heading straight to the command center."

"You said it yourself," Yuu reminded him. "We're on a family trip."

"Apparently, I did."

Cinderella giggled.

"Then let us make the most of it, my Prince."

Yuuki guided the hover car toward a designated parking area beside the garden.

For once, he decided that his unfinished projects could wait a little longer.

After all, the Philadelphia was more than a military command station. It was also home to the people who lived and worked aboard it.

And with three unexpected passengers gazing at its wonders as though they had stepped into another world, perhaps taking a little time to enjoy it wasn't such a bad idea.

The hover car settled gently onto the ground.

The doors opened.

San Diego was the first to jump out.

"Come on! Let's explore!"

Eldridge followed close behind, while Cinderella stepped out with considerably more grace, her eyes already drawn to the flowers and the magnificent view beyond them.

Yuu climbed out beside Yuuki and stretched her arms.

"See? This is much better than going straight to work."

Yuuki locked the vehicle and looked toward the garden.

"Don't remind me. I still have the Revival Machine, the Siren portal, the Chronosphere Mark IV, and the protective drones to finish."

"Tomorrow's problems," Yuu said cheerfully.

"Some of those projects are very much today's problems."

"Then it's a good thing you have me to remind you to take a break."

Yuuki shook his head, laughing softly.

Together, they followed the three girls into the garden, leaving the hover car behind.

For a little while, the High Commander of GDI could simply enjoy a peaceful afternoon with his family—far above the world he had sworn to protect.

After several hours of enjoying the beautiful gardens, Yuuki and Yuu finally resumed their journey toward the main command center, with San Diego, Eldridge, and Cinderella accompanying them.

The hover car glided along another elevated transit route, passing through a series of reinforced gateways before arriving at the central command complex.

Unlike the surrounding districts, this section housed the heart of the Philadelphia's operations. Its imposing architecture combined advanced military infrastructure with luxurious residential and recreational facilities. Massive holographic displays projected tactical information above the main entrances, while automated security systems scanned every incoming vehicle.

Beyond the security checkpoints lay another resort district.

Yuuki parked the hover car at a designated entrance and stepped out, followed by Yuu and the three girls.

San Diego looked around curiously.

"Whoa! There's another resort here?"

"More or less," Yuuki answered. "The command center has its own recreational facilities. Senior officers and essential personnel don't need to travel across the station whenever they want to relax."

He gestured toward the buildings beyond the entrance. Elegant lounges, restaurants, shopping areas, and wellness facilities occupied the surrounding complex. A luxurious spa stood beside a large indoor swimming pool, while landscaped terraces overlooked Earth through enormous observation windows.

The entire district had been designed to provide a comfortable environment for the people working at the station's command center.

Of course, with so few permanent residents aboard the Philadelphia, the facilities were considerably quieter than they had been intended to be.

Yuuki turned toward the three girls.

"Now, why don't you go and enjoy yourselves at the resort? Just don't blow all your hard-earned credits on unnecessary things."

"Okay!" San Diego and Eldridge answered almost simultaneously.

Sandy was already looking toward the swimming pool.

"I'm going swimming!"

Eldridge quietly nodded.

"Pool..."

Cinderella, however, hesitated.

"But, my Prince... I don't have any spending credits."

Yuuki looked at her for a moment before smiling.

"That's easily solved."

He took out his GDI card and handed it to her.

"There are ten thousand credits on this card. Spend them however you wish, but don't blow everything at once. You might want to save some for later."

Cinderella stared at the card in her hands.

"Ten thousand credits...?"

She looked up at him, visibly touched.

"My Prince, are you certain? That is quite a generous amount."

"Of course. You're here to enjoy yourself, aren't you?"

He pointed toward the nearby spa.

"You can start there. The basic spa treatments are free for authorized personnel. You only need to pay for additional purchases, such as clothing designs or customized outfits. They have plenty of options available, so feel free to browse."

Cinderella's expression brightened immediately.

"Ah, a spa!"

She looked toward the elegant facility, where android attendants moved between the reception area and the treatment rooms.

"I have heard of such treatments, but I have never had the opportunity to enjoy them in a place like this."

"Then now's your chance," Yuuki replied.

He tapped the GDI card lightly.

"This also works as a navigation device. If you get lost, just activate its locator function. It'll show you where you are and guide you back here."

He glanced at San Diego and Eldridge.

"Unlike these two, who can use their Leveling Systems to locate me, you don't have that feature yet. So keep the card with you."

Cinderella held it carefully.

"I understand, my Prince. Thank you."

Yuuki smiled.

"Now, go and have fun. We can't have you three waiting around while Yuu and I work."

"Yes!" all three girls answered.

San Diego immediately dashed toward the swimming pool, with Eldridge following at a more leisurely pace. Cinderella gave Yuuki one last grateful smile before heading toward the spa, already looking forward to her treatment.

Yuuki watched them depart.

Within moments, Sandy had reached the poolside, while Eldridge was examining the water with quiet curiosity. Cinderella, meanwhile, had disappeared through the spa's elegant entrance.

Yuu folded her arms and watched the scene with an amused smile.

"Pfff... I wonder if this is what our future will look like."

Yuuki glanced at her.

"What do you mean?"

"Our children playing at a resort while we work."

Yuuki raised an eyebrow.

"Maybe."

Yuu stared at him for a moment.

Then she burst out laughing.

"Pfff! Come on!"

She grabbed his arm and pulled him toward the command center entrance.

"Stop talking and get to work!"

Yuuki chuckled as he followed her.

"Yes, Doctor."

"Don't 'Doctor' me!"

Their laughter echoed briefly through the corridor before the heavy doors to the command center opened, revealing the advanced operations facility beyond.

While Yuuki and Yuu returned to their duties, their three unexpected companions had already begun enjoying the resort.

San Diego had changed into her swimwear and was relaxing beside the pool, basking beneath the artificial sunlight. The water shimmered around her, reflecting the lights of the surrounding architecture.

"Ahhh, this is the life!"

She stretched her arms and leaned back comfortably.

A short distance away, Eldridge floated peacefully in the swimming pool, her body drifting with the gentle movement of the water.

"Warm..."

She seemed perfectly content to remain there without doing anything else.

Meanwhile, Cinderella had settled into one of the spa's luxurious treatment rooms. Several android attendants were providing her with a relaxing massage, their mechanical hands applying precise pressure while soothing music played softly in the background.

Cinderella rested comfortably on the treatment bed, her eyes half-closed.

"A little lower... right there... Ahh~"

The android adjusted its movements according to her instructions.

"Pressure adjusted. Please inform us if you require any further adjustments."

"Mmm... just like that. How wonderful."

For the first time since arriving aboard the Philadelphia, Cinderella had nothing to worry about. Her Prince was nearby, the station was peaceful, and she had a luxurious spa entirely at her disposal.

Perhaps this unexpected trip was turning out even better than she had imagined.

Meanwhile, San Diego had discovered yet another way to make trouble.

While relaxing beside the swimming pool, she took out her device and began uploading pictures to GDIgram. Having already photographed the view of Earth from orbit, she now turned her attention to the Philadelphia's luxurious facilities.

First came the resort district, with its futuristic buildings and elegant architecture. Then came the gardens, where colorful flowers bloomed beneath artificial sunlight, surrounded by holographic displays and illuminated pathways.

She took pictures of the fountains, the shopping district, the cafés, and the recreational facilities. She even recorded a short video of the enormous observation windows overlooking Earth, capturing the breathtaking sight of the blue planet beyond the station.

Naturally, she didn't forget the swimming pool.

One picture showed Sandy relaxing beside the water, looking thoroughly pleased with herself. Another featured Eldridge floating peacefully in the pool, her expression as calm as ever.

And then there were the pictures of the spa.

Although Cinderella hadn't taken any selfies during her treatment, Sandy managed to capture a photograph of the elegant spa entrance and its luxurious interior, complete with android attendants waiting to welcome guests.

Before long, her latest post appeared on GDIgram.

Sandy — Sandy:

Look at all the awesome places aboard the Philadelphia! There are gardens, shops, holograms, swimming pools, and even a spa! Sandy is having the best day ever! Everyone should come here someday!

=======================

The response was immediate.

=======================

JavelinCrown:THERE'S A WHOLE RESORT UP THERE?! I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A MILITARY STATION!

Belmaid:My, my. The facilities look absolutely wonderful. I would love to spend a little time in those gardens.

KaguyaLittleMoon:Dearest! Thou hast an entire resort aboard thy station, and thou didst not tell me?! I shall demand a proper vacation there!

AkagiShikikanWife:Shikikan-sama, I believe we deserve a vacation together. A private resort in space sounds rather romantic, doesn't it? ❤️

KagaWorthy:Nee-sama, I would appreciate a quiet place to relax. The gardens look particularly beautiful.

EugenPeach:A swimming pool, a spa, and a resort in space? Oh, how convenient. I wonder whether the Commander offers special packages for his favorite girls.

HipperIronBlood:WHY DOES A MILITARY COMMAND STATION HAVE A RESORT?! AND WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL US?!

Atagowolf:Ara, ara. A spa vacation with everyone sounds delightful. Takao, we should prepare some lovely outfits for the occasion.

TakaoKatana:A vacation would be nice... though I hope we can arrange it properly instead of sneaking aboard like Sandy and Eldridge.

UnicornCute:The gardens look so pretty... Unicorn wants to visit with Big Brother someday.

IllyRoyal:A resort among the stars! How marvelous. I would certainly enjoy a little rest there.

LaffeyBunny:Swimming pool... gardens... comfortable beds... Laffey wants to sleep there.

Nimi23:The facilities appear exceptionally well maintained. A visit would be a welcome opportunity to rest after our upcoming operations.

The Nikkes weren't any less enthusiastic.

AnisTTStar:Hold on. You're telling me there's a luxurious resort in space, and we didn't know about it? Commander, I demand an explanation!

NeonFirepower:A SPACE RESORT?! DOES IT HAVE A FIRING RANGE?!

RapiCommandersWife:The facilities look impressive. Commander, I believe the personnel would appreciate an opportunity to rest there once our current operations are complete.

NayutaPilgrim:A peaceful place above the world, far from the usual conflicts... That sounds rather appealing.

DoctorVestal:The medical facilities are already impressive, but I hadn't realized the station had such extensive recreational amenities.

SodaPopMaid:Soda wants to visit! Maybe Soda can make snacks for everyone!

CocoaCrunch:Cocoa wants a vacation, too!

===================

The more pictures Sandy posted, the more the others wanted to visit.

It wasn't merely the luxury that attracted them. The Philadelphia offered something they rarely had the opportunity to experience: a chance to relax somewhere far removed from the conflicts on Earth, surrounded by advanced technology and breathtaking views of the planet.

And since they were already members of GDI, this wasn't an impossible dream.

They weren't strangers asking to visit a foreign military installation. They were GDI personnel, Shipgirls and Nikkes who belonged to the same organization as Yuuki. Provided the station's security requirements were met and their visit was properly arranged, there was no reason they couldn't come aboard.

The idea quickly spread through the fleet.

Once their current operations were over, they would ask Yuuki to bring everyone to the Philadelphia for a proper vacation.

No missions. No battles. No emergency deployments.

Just a chance to enjoy the gardens, swim in the pools, visit the spa, explore the resort, and spend time together.

Some wanted to go shopping. Others were already discussing spa treatments and swimming competitions. A few simply wanted to find a comfortable lounge, sit beside the observation windows, and admire Earth from orbit.

Even the girls who had initially been content to remain aboard the Daedalus were beginning to reconsider.

After all, how often did someone get the opportunity to take a vacation in a luxurious resort suspended above the planet?

Back in the command center, Yuuki was reviewing project reports when the notifications from GDIgram began piling up.

He glanced at the screen.

Then he opened Sandy's post.

His eyes moved across the pictures of the gardens, the holographic displays, the swimming pools, and the spa.

He read the comments.

Then he read some more.

Finally, he sighs..

"...Sandy."

Yuu, who was working beside him, glanced over.

"What did she do now?"

Yuuki turned the screen toward her.

Yuu read through the post and the increasingly enthusiastic responses. A smile gradually spread across her face.

"Oh, this is nice. Everyone wants to come for a vacation."

"That's one way to describe it."

Yuuki scrolled through another batch of comments.

"First, they wanted to visit the station. Now they're planning an entire vacation here."

"Well, look at the place," Yuu replied. "You designed a luxurious command center with a resort, gardens, swimming pools, shopping facilities, and a spa. What did you expect?"

"It's supposed to be a place for our personnel to relax, not an amusement park."

"And our personnel want to relax. They're GDI members, aren't they?"

Yuuki paused.

Yuu smiled knowingly.

"Besides, you said yourself that once the current operations are over, everyone should have an opportunity to rest. Why not let them come here? We have more than enough space."

Yuuki looked at the comments again.

The girls weren't asking to interrupt their work. They were talking about coming after their current missions were complete, when they could finally take a proper break.

He couldn't exactly blame them.

He had built the Philadelphia to serve as a command center, but it was also a home for GDI's personnel. There was little point in maintaining luxurious recreational facilities if the people they were meant to serve never had the opportunity to enjoy them.

Yuuki let out another sigh, then began typing.

==============

YuukiAwesome:Fine. Once we rescue Nagato, Mutsu, Shinano, Musashi, and Yukime, we'll arrange a proper vacation here.

===============

For a moment, the comments stopped.

Then another message appeared.

===============

YuukiAwesome:I have plenty of work to finish aboard the Philadelphia anyway. So, why don't all of you come and enjoy yourselves here once we're home? We'll make the arrangements after the operation. Just remember that this is still an active command station, so restricted areas remain off-limits.

=================

He pressed send.

The response was immediate.

==================

JavelinCrown:REALLY?! THANK YOU, COMMANDER!

KaguyaLittleMoon:Dearest! Thou hast made me the happiest little moon in the heavens! I shall eagerly await our vacation!

AkagiShikikanWife:How generous of you, Shikikan-sama. ❤️ I'll be sure to prepare something special for our vacation together.

KagaWorthy:Thank you, Shikikan-sama. I look forward to it.

Belmaid:My, my. A vacation with everyone sounds wonderful. I'll make sure the maids are prepared.

EnterpriseCV6:Thank you, Commander. Everyone deserves a little rest after everything we've been through.

YorktownMom:That sounds lovely, Yuuki. I'll make sure everyone finishes their preparations before we leave. And please don't take on too much work while we're there.

=====================

Yuuki smiled faintly at Yorktown's message.

"She's already worrying about my workload."

Yuu chuckled.

"Someone has to."

The remaining comments continued to pour in, filled with excitement, gratitude, and plans for their future vacation. Even the more reserved girls were looking forward to the opportunity to relax at the Philadelphia.

Yuuki watched the messages for a moment before closing the interface.

"There. Everyone's happy."

Yuu leaned back in her chair.

"And you get to finish your projects while they're enjoying the resort. Sounds like a good arrangement to me."

"Assuming nobody tries to sneak into the research laboratories."

"Then you'd better make sure Jarvis keeps an eye on them."

Yuuki shook his head, laughing softly.

"I'm beginning to think this vacation is going to be more work for me than an actual operation."

"Don't be so pessimistic," Yuu teased. "You'll have plenty of people around to keep you company."

"That's precisely what I'm worried about."

Yuu laughed.

For now, however, the decision had been made.

Once Nagato, Mutsu, Shinano, Musashi, and Yukime had been rescued, GDI's Shipgirls and Nikkes would get their vacation aboard the Philadelphia.

And judging by the reactions flooding GDIgram, it was going to be a vacation everyone would remember.

At least that had made everyone happy.

Yuuki leaned back in his chair, satisfied with how the conversation had turned out. Once the skirmish in Lawless City was over, he might arrange another trip to the Philadelphia for his Shipgirls and Nikkes. They had been through enough battles and hardships. Giving them a chance to relax, enjoy the resort, and spend time together would do them some good.

Besides, he was going to be stuck aboard the station for a while to finish his projects anyway. There was no reason they couldn't enjoy themselves while he worked.

He was still considering the arrangements when a familiar voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Ah, there you two are... my two favourite people. The High Commander himself and the mad wom— I mean, Yuu."

Yuuki looked up.

Standing at the entrance was Vergil, his white hair neatly arranged and his white coat giving him the appearance of a distinguished researcher. His expression was composed, although the moment he noticed Yuu looking at him, a hint of caution crept into his eyes.

Yuu smiled sweetly.

"Oh? Do you want me to put you on the operating table again? I haven't collected enough samples of your devil's blood yet."

Vergil immediately raised both hands.

"Hey! Have mercy on me! I came here to welcome you, not to become another one of your experiments!"

"Then stop calling me a mad woman."

"I was going to say wonderful woman."

"Liar."

Yuuki chuckled at their familiar exchange.

Vergil sighed, apparently deciding that further argument would only make matters worse.

"Anyway, welcome to the Philadelphia! It's good to have you both back."

His gaze shifted toward the three girls who had accompanied Yuuki and Yuu.

"I see you've brought stowaways."

Yuuki shrugged.

"I got them off my back for now. Though, judging by the reactions on GDIgram, there might be a lot more visitors in the future."

"You promised them a vacation, didn't you?"

"Once the Lawless City operation is over, yes. They deserve a chance to enjoy themselves."

Vergil nodded thoughtfully.

"Fair enough. We do have the facilities for it. Besides, a few more people might make this place feel less deserted."

He gestured toward the corridor.

"Anyway, come with me. There's something you need to see."

Yuuki rose from his chair.

"Speaking of which, what are the things that need our attention?"

"Come and see for yourself."

Vergil led them through the command center and into one of the station's research sections. The corridors gradually changed from luxurious, spacious walkways into a more functional environment filled with laboratory entrances, diagnostic displays, and automated security checkpoints.

Beyond the reinforced doors lay one of GDI's principal research laboratories.

The moment they entered, Yuuki noticed that the place was bustling with activity.

Researchers in laboratory coats moved between workstations, while engineers monitored holographic displays and diagnostic equipment. Automated arms handled delicate components, and drones carried equipment between different sections of the facility.

However, the most surprising sight wasn't the technology.

It was the workforce.

Small, round creatures with yellow bodies, tiny wings, and bright expressions were busily assisting the researchers. Some carried tools, others transported components, and a few were helping organize equipment at the workstations.

Yuuki stopped.

He stared at the creatures.

Then he looked at Vergil.

"...Dude. You poached a lot of Manjuus."

Vergil looked mildly offended.

"Poached? I prefer to think of it as recruiting additional personnel."

"That's what poaching means when you take someone else's workers."

"They have plenty of them!"

As if to prove his point, a Manjuu waddled past carrying a toolbox nearly as large as its body. Another followed with a stack of components, while two more operated a small transport cart.

Vergil gestured proudly toward the busy laboratory.

"Look at them! They're excellent assistants. Small, surprisingly strong, hardworking, and capable of understanding instructions. The researchers love them."

One of the Manjuus looked up as they passed and chirped cheerfully before returning to its work.

Yuuki watched it disappear around a workstation.

"...I'm not even going to ask how you managed to recruit them."

"Oh, but you should! The story is rather interesting."

Yuu folded her arms.

"Vergil, why are there chickens working in a GDI laboratory?"

"Manjuus," Vergil corrected. "And they're not chickens."

"They look like chickens."

"Round, winged chickens, perhaps. But they're much more capable than they appear."

He pointed toward another section of the laboratory.

"And that's not all. This world is connected to a dimension inhabited by Manjuus. Apparently, they have an entire society of their own, and many of them work alongside Shipgirls. They're used to assisting with maintenance, logistics, and all sorts of tasks."

Yuuki watched a pair of Manjuus carry a container between them.

"And you decided to recruit them for GDI."

"Of course! Why wouldn't I? Our researchers need assistance, and the Manjuus are more than happy to help. Some of our female engineers and researchers even have their own little companions."

Vergil's expression brightened as another thought occurred to him.

"Oh, and there are Meowfficers, too!"

Yuu blinked.

"...Meowfficers?"

"Little cat-like officers from the same dimension. They can understand us, and they're capable of being trained to operate tanks and ships."

He spread his arms as though presenting the greatest scientific discovery of the century.

"Think about it! We might be able to train them to assist with our vehicles, armored units, and even certain naval systems. Imagine having a Meowfficer coordinating a tank crew!"

Yuuki stared at him.

"Vergil, are you seriously considering putting cats in charge of military equipment?"

"Not in charge. Trained assistants! There's a difference."

Yuu gave him a dubious look.

"How does any of this work?"

"I'm still investigating the details. But from what I've gathered, the dimension is naturally connected to the worlds inhabited by Shipgirls. The Manjuus and Meowfficers are familiar with their technology and can interact with our systems."

Vergil shrugged.

"Honestly, I was surprised myself. One moment, I was looking into the Manjuus' capabilities, and the next, I was wondering why we hadn't recruited them sooner."

Yuuki rubbed his forehead.

"I'm beginning to understand why Jarvis has been reporting so many unusual personnel additions."

"See? They're useful!"

"I'm not saying they aren't."

A Manjuu approached Vergil and chirped, holding up a small tablet.

Vergil took it, glanced at the display, and nodded.

"Thank you. Tell the engineering team I'll review the results shortly."

The Manjuu chirped again and hurried away.

Yuuki watched the exchange with a bemused expression.

"...They're already integrated into your workflow."

"Of course they are. They're excellent workers!"

Yuu sighed.

"I leave you alone for a while, and you recruit an army of chickens and cats."

"Manjuus and Meowfficers," Vergil corrected again. "Please show some respect for our newest colleagues."

Yuuki chuckled.

"Fine. Just don't let them near anything classified without proper authorization."

"Already handled. Jarvis has their access permissions configured."

"Good."

Vergil tucked the tablet beneath his arm and gestured toward the deeper section of the laboratory.

"Now, enough about our new assistants. There are more important things for you to see."

Yuuki nodded and followed him.

Before they went farther, however, he reached into his inventory and produced several small, luminous objects. Each resembled a crystalline core, its surface glowing with traces of magical energy.

He tossed them toward Vergil.

"Here. Gifts from Ravenshaw."

Vergil caught the cores, his eyes widening as he examined them.

"Magic cores?"

"More or less. Ravenshaw used to extract Irisviel's magic, and these are the remnants. I gave my mana to Iris to replenish her, so the magic stored inside these cores originally came from her."

Yuuki pointed toward the crystals.

"They're not ordinary energy containers, though. They're magical cores. You blew the last one, so I figured you might want to see what you can do with these."

Vergil's expression immediately transformed.

The casual researcher vanished, replaced by a man who had just received a treasure trove of experimental material.

"Hoho! Thank you so much, brother!"

He held the cores up to the laboratory lights, studying the patterns of energy within them.

"These are fascinating! The magical structure should provide us with a great deal of information. We might be able to determine how the energy is condensed, stored, and released. If we're careful, we could even compare their properties with our existing energy systems."

"That's why I'm giving them to you. Just don't blow them up."

Vergil looked offended.

"Why does everyone keep bringing that up?"

Yuu raised an eyebrow.

"Because you blew up the last one."

"That was an accident!"

"An accident that shook three laboratories."

"An unfortunate experimental outcome."

Yuuki shook his head.

"Just be careful. These cores contain Iris's magic. I don't want them damaged unnecessarily."

Vergil nodded, suddenly serious.

"Understood. I'll have my researchers handle them carefully. I'll assign my best girls to analyze the cores and ensure that nothing is wasted."

He carefully secured the crystals in a containment case.

"Don't worry, brother. We'll take good care of them."

At that moment, two tiny figures suddenly appeared beside Yuuki.

A pair of fairies settled comfortably on his shoulders, their small wings fluttering as they examined the surroundings with wide-eyed curiosity.

Esche leaned forward, peering past Yuuki's head.

"Ah! So this is space?"

Oberis fluttered to his other shoulder.

"It's even bigger than I imagined!"

Vergil blinked.

Then he smiled.

"Hoho! And who do we have here?"

Yuuki gestured toward the two fairies.

"These are Esche and Oberis. They're the two fairies accompanying me. You seen them through the feed before."

He glanced at the pair.

"Girls, this is Vergil. He's one of GDI's leading researchers."

Vergil inclined his head politely.

"Pleased to make your acquaintance."

Esche and Oberis exchanged a glance before bowing in the air.

"As is our honor, Lord Vergil."

Vergil's smile widened.

"Wonderful! Fairies, magical cores, and dimensional technology. My research opportunities keep getting better!"

Yuu immediately pointed at him.

"Don't even think about experimenting on the fairies."

Vergil's smile faltered.

"I wasn't going to!"

"You were thinking about it."

"...Perhaps a little."

"Vergil."

"Fine! No experiments on the fairies without their consent!"

Esche and Oberis exchanged another glance, then settled more comfortably on Yuuki's shoulders.

They had apparently decided that this researcher required careful supervision.

Yuuki sighed.

"Can we please get back to work?"

"Of course!" Vergil replied enthusiastically. "Follow me. I want to show you the projects that need your attention."

As they continued deeper into the laboratory, Manjuus scurried between the workstations, researchers called out technical observations, and holographic displays illuminated the surrounding walls.

Yuuki took one last look at the busy laboratory.

Between the researchers, engineers, Manjuus, Meowfficers, and now two curious fairies perched on his shoulders, the Philadelphia was becoming considerably livelier than he remembered.

Perhaps the station wasn't as deserted as it had once seemed.

And with the projects awaiting them, he suspected that it was about to become even busier.
