Yuuki landed on the Daedalus's main deck, his repulsor thrusters powering down as Yuu and Cinderella descended alongside him.
Not far away, the Razor Gunship touched down on a designated landing pad. Its engines gradually wound down as the side hatch opened.
Yorktown, Enterprise, San Diego, Eldridge, Arizona, Laffey, and Pennsylvania emerged from the gunship, joining Yuuki and the others.
And with them came their newest member.
D.
The former Perilous Siege assassin had officially left the Ark behind and chosen to follow Yuuki into GDI.
Yuuki looked around at the assembled group and smiled.
"Well, that went well."
He stretched his shoulders before letting out a sigh.
"Still, it's a shame we couldn't bring Washington, North Carolina, and Baltimore with us."
Yorktown nodded.
"At least we achieved an alliance. And now, we can visit Eagle Union whenever we want."
Yuuki looked at the Shipgirls.
"That's right. You girls can always go home whenever you want."
"Home?"
Yorktown gave him a warm smile.
"Commander, we're already home with you."
She glanced toward the others.
"All of us are. Eagle Union is our hometown, but GDI is our home now."
Enterprise nodded in agreement.
"That's right. We have a place here, people who rely on us, and a future we can look forward to."
Laffey quietly approached Yuuki and leaned against him.
"Commander... home."
Yuuki smiled and gently patted her head.
"I'm glad you feel that way, Laffey."
He looked back at the others.
"But don't you want to see your old friends again? It's been years since some of you last saw them."
"Of course we do," Enterprise replied. "But we have careers now. A home, friends, family, and stable jobs."
She smiled faintly.
"We'll visit them one day. Or they'll come to visit us. Whichever happens first."
"Exactly!" Sandy chimed in.
She grinned brightly.
"Besides, Sandy is super busy becoming even more super!"
Eldridge nodded.
"Visit... later."
Yorktown chuckled.
"Enty's right. Besides, I have Nikkes to look after now. I can't simply leave them behind."
She glanced toward Cinderella, who was already hovering close to her.
"Someone has to be their mother, after all."
Pennsylvania raised an eyebrow.
"Oh? Someone's finally embracing the fact that she's been called Mom."
Yorktown gave her a helpless look.
"I have to, Penny."
She sighed.
"Someone has to keep those children in line."
Cinderella immediately raised her chin.
"Mother, I assure you that I am perfectly well-behaved."
Yuuki glanced at the Nikke.
"You tackled me onto the deck earlier."
"That was an expression of affection, my Prince."
"Right."
Yuuki shook his head, earning a few amused chuckles from the others.
Even D seemed slightly bewildered by the atmosphere. She had expected a military organization to be far more rigid, especially one as powerful as GDI.
Instead, the people aboard the Daedalus behaved more like a family.
A rather unusual family, admittedly.
But a family nonetheless.
Yuuki eventually turned toward D.
"So, any regrets about joining us?"
D shook her head.
"No."
She paused, her expression becoming more contemplative.
"But I wonder what will happen now that I'm free."
Her gaze lowered slightly.
"My comrades... and Perilous Siege itself. They won't take this well."
She knew the consequences of her decision.
The Ark would consider her a traitor. The Judges might issue orders to eliminate her. And if Perilous Siege remained under their control, her former comrades could eventually be sent after her.
Yuuki regarded her quietly before giving her a reassuring smile.
"We'll cross that bridge when we get there."
He placed a hand on her shoulder.
"For now, you've made your choice. You don't need to solve every problem today."
D looked at him for a moment before nodding.
"Understood, Commander."
"Good."
Yuuki turned toward the corridor leading deeper into the carrier.
"Come on. There's something I want you to see."
He began walking toward the main command room, with D following beside him.
"We're back!"
Yuuki's voice echoed through the main command room as he entered with Yuu, Cinderella, and the others.
Several Shipgirls and Nikkes turned toward the entrance.
"Cindy! It's not nice to wander off on your own like that!" Anis immediately scolded.
Cinderella giggled.
"Ehehe... I missed my Prince."
She moved closer to Yuuki, looking perfectly pleased with herself.
Yuuki sighed.
"Thank goodness she was away during our skirmish on the previous island. Otherwise, she'd have chased me all the way there."
"Eh?!"
Anis stared at him.
"You mean she would actually do that?!"
"Without hesitation."
"Of course I would, my Prince!"
Yuuki could only shake his head.
Before Anis could continue scolding Cinderella, Neon suddenly noticed the woman standing to Yuuki's left.
"Wait! That's D!"
Her eyes widened.
"How in the world did you get her?!"
Yuuki glanced at the assassin.
"You know her?"
Rapi stepped forward, her expression turning serious.
"D is the leader of Perilous Siege, Elysion's black-ops squad. They're specialized in hunting down human criminals and other targets deemed threats to the Ark."
She paused before continuing.
"Unlike ordinary Nikkes, Perilous Siege members have their limiters removed. This allows them to open fire on humans when their missions require it, making them particularly suited for covert operations and eliminating dangerous targets."
Anis crossed her arms.
"She's the kind of Nikke who won't hesitate when it's time to pull the trigger. Most Nikkes in the Ark wouldn't dare cross that line, especially when Perilous Siege is the organization hunting them down."
She let out a sigh.
"Honestly, I was almost hunted myself because of my... issues back then."
Neon looked between D and Yuuki, still struggling to process the situation.
"Seriously, Commander! How did you recruit her?"
Yuuki shrugged.
"No idea. She said she wanted to be free."
He glanced at the Nikkes around him.
"Just like you girls."
D remained silent, allowing Yuuki to explain the circumstances of her decision.
Rapi's expression grew more serious.
"Then the Ark really has discovered us?"
"That's right."
D nodded.
"Rapi, Anis, Ade, Soda, Cocoa, Nayuta, Mary, Pepper, and Cinderella. They've all attracted attention."
Just then, Soda arrived alongside Ade, Cocoa, and Nayuta. Mary and Pepper were nearby as well, and they had caught enough of the conversation to understand what was happening.
Soda looked worried.
"Is our freedom really that troublesome to them?"
"Unfortunately, yes."
D folded her arms.
"Nikkes who become free can no longer be treated as controllable, mass-produced assets. That's a serious problem for an organization that relies on keeping them under its control."
She glanced toward Rapi.
"Rapi has also evolved beyond an ordinary Nikke, and the Ark would love to get its hands on her."
His gaze shifted toward Nayuta and Cinderella.
"Then there's Nayuta, a Pilgrim, and Cinderella, the former Anachiro. Both are exceptionally valuable to them."
Anis grimaced.
"Yikes. So we're all on their wanted list now?"
"More or less."
Yuuki smiled faintly.
"And that's not even considering the fact that all of you have leveled up. You're considerably stronger than standard Nikkes."
He shook his head.
"The Ark doesn't just want you back. They'd love to find out how you became this powerful and whether they can reproduce the results."
Anis groaned.
"Great. Just great."
She paused, then narrowed her eyes.
"Mustang is still kicking around, isn't he?"
"Last I checked."
"Don't tell me Syuen is still around too."
Yuuki raised an eyebrow.
"Who's Syuen?"
Mary answered before Anis could.
"Syuen is the CEO of Missilis Industry and one of its leading researchers. She's deeply involved in Nikke research and technological development."
Nayuta nodded.
"She was one of the people trying to replicate what Shipgirls can do."
She folded her arms.
"The researchers studied Wisdom Cubes technology and attempted to reverse-engineer their properties. But all they managed to produce were inferior imitations. Nikkes are certainly superior to ordinary humans in many respects, but their capabilities still can't be compared to those of Shipgirls."
She shook her head.
"They wanted to reproduce the power Shipgirls possess, but they only managed to imitate a small part of it."
Mary continued the explanation.
"The Ark's three major manufacturers are Missilis Industry, led by Syuen; Tetra Line, led by Mustang; and Elysion, led by Ingrid."
She glanced toward Yuuki.
"You encountered Mustang in my memories when you freed Pepper and me, remember?"
Yuuki nodded.
"Right. I remember him."
Anis sighed.
"Of course those three are still running things."
She looked toward D.
"Still, I never thought you'd be the one to defect. You were the one sent to hunt down Nikkes like us."
D nodded.
"I was."
Her expression remained composed, but there was a quiet honesty in her voice.
"I was tasked with hunting down the freed Nikkes. But I used that mission as an opportunity to free myself instead."
The room fell quiet for a moment.
"We didn't know you wanted freedom too," Rapi admitted.
D lowered her gaze.
"When you work as an assassin for long enough, you gradually stop questioning your orders. You follow them, complete your missions, and move on to the next target."
She paused.
"Eventually, you forget to ask yourself what you actually want."
D looked toward Yuuki.
"That's why I chose to follow the Commander. I want to be free, and I want protection from the Ark in exchange for using my skills for a greater purpose."
Yuuki nodded, acknowledging her decision.
"Then let's make sure you get that chance."
He turned toward her.
"There's just one thing I want to know."
D looked at him.
"What is your real name?"
She hesitated.
"D is a codename. I can't keep calling you that forever."
For a moment, the assassin seemed uncertain.
Then she quietly answered.
"Diane."
Yuuki smiled.
"Diane... That's a beautiful name."
Her eyes widened slightly.
"Thank you..."
She lowered her gaze, her voice becoming softer.
"It's been years since I've used it. People usually just call me D."
She paused, searching for the right words.
"D is the name of an assassin. It's not... my name."
The distinction seemed small, yet it carried years of forgotten identity.
Yuuki understood.
"Then let's change that."
He smiled warmly.
"From now on, you're free to be Diane. You don't have to live as your codename anymore."
Anis immediately raised her hand.
"Then can we call you Diane too?"
She grinned.
"Since we're going to be comrades, there's no need to keep things so formal, right?"
Diane looked around the room.
The Nikkes who had escaped the Ark's control were watching her. Some were curious, others welcoming, but none seemed to regard her as an enemy.
For someone who had spent so many years living as an assassin, the feeling was unfamiliar.
She finally gave a small nod.
"...I would like that."
Yuuki smiled.
"Good. We're going to be comrades, Diane."
He extended his hand toward her.
"Please, be yourself."
Diane looked at his hand for a moment before accepting it.
"Understood, Commander."
Diane smiled. She had introduced herself by her real name and had it accepted without hesitation.
She was no longer merely D, the assassin of Perilous Siege.
She was Diane.
And this time, the next chapter of her life would be one she chose for herself.
"For now, why don't you join Rapi and the others? Introduce yourself properly and make some friends."
Yuuki smiled at Diane.
"There's no need to stand around looking like you're attending a funeral."
Diane gave a small nod before turning toward Rapi and the others. Anis immediately waved her over, eager to welcome their newest comrade and learn more about her.
She had spent years living as an assassin, known only by a single letter.
But that chapter of her life was coming to an end.
She was no longer D.
She was Diane.
Yuuki watched as she approached the others, satisfied that she was already taking her first steps toward a new life.
Before he could say anything else, however, a familiar voice called out to him.
"Shikikan-sama!"
Akagi approached with her usual affectionate smile, though the slight displeasure in her eyes was impossible to miss.
"You seemed rather chummy with that president."
Behind her, Kaga let out a quiet sigh.
"Nee-sama..."
Yuuki immediately recognized the situation.
Oh, boy.
And Akagi wasn't the only one who had noticed.
Several Shipgirls and Nikkes had been watching his interaction with Rosalia, and quite a few seemed less than pleased with how friendly he had been with the Eagle Union President. Even the newly arrived Shoukaku and Zuikaku were looking at him with curious expressions, clearly wondering what had happened between them.
Yuuki scratched his cheek awkwardly.
"Haha... We reached a peaceful agreement. Besides, she's not actually that bad. A little sneaky and cheeky, perhaps, but she's the first politician I've met who isn't completely full of herself."
He shrugged.
"So, yeah. We achieved an alliance."
That immediately caught their attention.
"An alliance?" Belfast asked, approaching with a graceful smile.
Yuuki nodded.
"That's right. Sooner or later, we'll probably need to meet the leader of the Royal Union as well. Rosalia might even agree to let us establish a GDI outpost near Eagle Union territory."
He raised his left arm and glanced at his watch.
"That should become possible once I've constructed the Chronosphere back home. With it, we could transport a Mobile Construction Vehicle over there and establish a proper base."
Akagi's expression softened slightly, although she still seemed unconvinced about Rosalia.
"Still, congratulations are in order, Master."
Belfast smiled.
"We were hoping a confrontation could be avoided. Having the President of the Eagle Union as an ally is certainly preferable to having to fight the presidential fleet."
"Agreed," Yuuki replied. "I'd rather not start a war when we can settle things peacefully."
Kaguya nodded, her long sleeves shifting as she brought a hand toward her chin.
"It was quite the presentation, dearest."
Her smile turned playful.
"Although, I suspect you enjoyed watching them realize just how thoroughly outmatched they were."
Yuuki laughed awkwardly.
"Let's not dwell on that part. Rosalia's a good one."
Kaguya's expression grew more serious.
"Unfortunately, this wife has been unable to find any information regarding the Arcanes of the West. Some of them have apparently suppressed their magic to avoid detection. Neither Iris nor this one can sense them."
Yuuki sighed.
"Yeah..."
He had hoped Kaguya's ability to locate other Arcanes would make the search considerably easier. Unfortunately, the situation was proving more complicated than expected.
"What about those in the North?"
Irisviel, who had been listening nearby, shook her head.
"I'm afraid the situation is much the same. The Arcanes must suppress their magic to conceal their locations. After what happened to me, this humble one cannot blame them for being cautious."
Yuuki clicked his tongue.
"Bugger. Well, there's not much we can do about that for now."
He had no intention of forcing the Arcanes out of hiding. If they were keeping themselves concealed because they feared capture, the last thing he wanted was to make them feel cornered.
For now, he would have to respect their decision and look for another way to find them.
Yuuki turned toward Rapi, who was still introducing Diane to the others.
"Rapi, why don't you show Diane around? We can begin the process of freeing her from the Ark tomorrow."
Diane looked back at him.
"Tomorrow?"
"Of course. You wanted to be free, didn't you?"
Yuuki smiled.
"There's no reason to keep you waiting any longer than necessary."
Diane regarded him for a moment before giving a firm nod.
"Understood, Commander."
"Good."
With that settled, Yuuki turned toward another group of Nikkes who had gathered nearby.
Ludmilla stood at the front, accompanied by Avrora, Alice, Tove, and Neve.
Ludmilla wore her familiar northern-style winter uniform, complete with a large fur-trimmed hat, a white military coat accented with purple details, and white high-heeled boots. Her long blonde hair fell neatly around her shoulders, and she carried herself with the composed dignity expected of a queen.
Beside her, Alice's long pinkish-white hair and bright pink eyes stood out against her form-fitting pink suit, which helped regulate her unusually high body temperature. A dark pink coat rested over it, while her pink animal-eared headphones gave her an unmistakable appearance.
Tove stood nearby in practical outdoor gear, her blonde hair braided and decorated with flowers. Unlike the others, she looked ready to head straight into the wilderness at a moment's notice.
And then there was Neve.
The silver-haired Nikke wore an oversized, creamy-white polar bear hoodie complete with little bear ears. Her red eyes were half-lidded, and she looked as though she might fall asleep standing up.
Yuuki regarded the group.
"What about you? Would you be interested in being freed from the Ark's control as well?"
Ludmilla blinked.
"Freed?"
"That's right." Yuuki nodded. "Rapi can explain the process and its effects. Eunhwa, Vesti, and Emma have expressed interest, too."
He folded his arms.
"As long as you're no longer bound to the Ark's control, you're free to join GDI if that's what you want. If you agree, we can begin the process tomorrow morning."
Alice's eyes immediately lit up.
"Free? And join Rabbity?"
She raised her hand without the slightest hesitation.
"I accept!"
Yuuki stared at her.
"That was quick."
Alice beamed at him.
"Rabbity is here, so Alice will follow Rabbity!"
"Of course you would," Anis muttered from nearby.
Yuuki could only shake his head in amusement before turning toward Tove.
"What about you?"
Tove raised her hand, looking considerably more thoughtful than Alice.
"If I join, can I learn more survival skills? Real ones, I mean. I'd like to learn from people with experience operating in different environments, like you, High Commander."
Yuuki nodded.
"Certainly. I can teach you. I can even show you how to build weapons out of scrap and whatever else you can find lying around. That's how you become a true guerrilla fighter."
Tove's eyes brightened.
"Really?"
"Really. You'd be surprised what you can accomplish with the right knowledge and a pile of junk."
He paused, then added with a grin, "I'm sure the Akashis would be interested in learning a few things, too."
That immediately caught the attention of someone nearby.
"Building firepower out of trash!? Count me in!"
Neon practically sprang forward, her eyes shining with excitement.
"I'll join you, sister!" Pinkashi declared enthusiastically.
"Nyaa! Akashi is interested too, nya!"
Neon turned toward Yuuki, barely containing herself.
"What kind of firepower are we talking about?!"
Anis stared at her.
"She's already lost in her own world."
Yuuki chuckled.
"Have you ever heard of Supremos and Resolver weapons?"
Neon froze.
"...No."
His grin widened.
"Well, we can start with the basics later."
That was all it took. Tove now had even more reason to consider joining, especially with Neon and the two Akashis showing interest in the same lessons. The prospect of learning unconventional survival techniques and improvised weapon construction had clearly struck a chord with her.
Yuuki was beginning to suspect that his promise to teach them might turn into a much bigger project than he'd intended.
Then Neve slowly raised her head.
"If we're free... can we see polar bears?"
Ludmilla turned toward her.
"Is that what you're after?"
Neve nodded sleepily.
"Polar bears..."
For a moment, Yuuki simply stared at her.
Then he laughed.
"I'm sure we can arrange a trip to see some in one of GDI training dimension, provided it's safe and we can do so responsibly."
Neve's eyes brightened a little.
"Then... good."
Ludmilla sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Honestly. One wants to follow Alice, another wants to build weapons out of scrap, and now Neve wants to see polar bears."
"Those are all perfectly reasonable goals," Yuuki replied with a straight face.
Ludmilla gave him a look that suggested she wasn't entirely convinced.
She then straightened and addressed him more formally.
"Before making a final decision, I would like to hear Rapi's explanation of the process of being free."
Yuuki nodded approvingly.
"That's reasonable. Take your time. I want you to understand what you're agreeing to rather than make a decision you might regret later."
His expression remained warm, but his words carried genuine weight. Freedom was not something he intended to offer without ensuring that they understood what it meant. They deserved to make their own choices with all the necessary information, not simply follow someone because the opportunity sounded appealing.
He glanced toward Alice, who was already practically vibrating with excitement.
"And Alice?"
"Yes, Rabbity?"
"Listen to Rapi first."
Alice paused.
For a brief moment, she seemed to consider whether that was truly necessary.
Then she nodded enthusiastically.
"Okay! Alice will listen!"
Yuuki smiled.
"Good. We'll discuss the arrangements tomorrow morning."
For now, that was enough.
Another group of Nikkes was beginning to consider a future beyond the Ark's control. Some were eager to embrace that freedom immediately, while others wanted time to understand what it would mean for their lives.
Yuuki was perfectly content to let them decide at their own pace.
He wasn't interested in collecting followers simply to increase GDI's numbers. Nor did he want people joining because they felt pressured, indebted, or afraid of what might happen if they refused.
If they chose to join GDI, he wanted them to do so because they genuinely wanted to be free.
And if that was the future they chose, GDI would give them the opportunity to build a life of their own.
Diane, who had been listening to the conversation, tilted her head.
"Commander, why tomorrow morning? Why not later today? Or tonight?"
Yuuki glanced at her.
"Because I'm not keen on doing something like this without telling my Shipgirls first. I've already been scolded twice for pulling that sort of stunt."
He paused, rubbing the back of his head.
"Besides..."
Turning toward the command table, Yuuki brought up a holographic interface and began calculating something. Several lines of data scrolled across the display as he worked.
"Hana, I'll be leaving the fleet in your command."
Yorktown blinked.
"Eh? Are you going somewhere, Commander?"
The moment she asked, the attention of every Shipgirl and Nikke nearby shifted toward Yuuki.
He nodded.
"Yes. Yuu and I will be Chronoshifted to the GDSS Philadelphia. We'll be back tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?" Yorktown repeated.
"Vergil said something needed my attention regarding the Revival Machine. There's also something about utilizing Siren portal technology. Apparently, a few things need my personal checkup before they can proceed."
Yuuki continued working on the holographic interface as if he hadn't just announced that he was leaving the fleet again.
"I need to finalize several projects, including the protective drones for all of you, the Revival Machine, and the Siren portal. I also need to finish the Chronosphere Mark IV by utilizing the Unily Formula."
He finally looked up.
"We still have three days before we reach Lawless City, so there's enough time. I'll be back tomorrow, and Hana will be in charge until then."
"Eh?!"
The collective reaction from the Shipgirls and Nikkes was almost immediate.
Kaguya stepped forward, her expression a mixture of disbelief and exasperation.
"Dearest! You only returned this afternoon!"
"I know, little moon."
Yuuki gave her an apologetic smile.
"But these projects need my attention. The sooner I finalize them, the sooner we can put them to use. I don't want to leave unfinished work hanging over my head while we're dealing with Lawless City."
Kaguya puffed out her cheeks slightly.
"Must you always find something to do the moment you return?"
"Unfortunately, yes."
"Dearest..."
"Hey, at least I'm telling you this time!"
That earned him several unimpressed looks.
Yuuki coughed awkwardly.
"Anyway, Hana will be in command while I'm away. Enty, Belfast, I want you two to assist her."
Enterprise nodded without hesitation.
"Understood, Commander."
Belfast gave a graceful curtsy.
"Of course. You may leave the fleet to us."
Yorktown looked at Yuuki for a moment before sighing.
"Fine. I'll take command. But you had better come back tomorrow, Commander."
Yuuki smiled.
"Would I ever break a promise to you?"
Yorktown simply stared at him.
"...No.. But you still owe me a personal moment."
"Fair enough."
A few of the Shipgirls laughed, while others shook their heads in amusement. Yuuki had a remarkable talent for making promises that sounded perfectly reasonable right up until he found another project that demanded his attention.
He raised both hands in surrender.
"All right, all right. I'll be back tomorrow."
With that settled, Yuuki turned toward the gathered fleet.
"Now, why don't you all take some time to explore the ship? Stretch your legs, have a look around, and see what the Daedalus has to offer."
He gestured toward the surrounding corridors.
"There are plenty of things to do. You can watch a movie at the cinema, play games in the common areas, indulge in sports, visit the shops, or try out some of the desserts. There are plenty of places to relax and spend your credits."
Several Shipgirls immediately perked up at the mention of shops and desserts.
Yuuki chuckled.
"Just don't spend everything in one place."
He then turned toward the newer arrivals, including the Nikkes who had only recently come under GDI's protection.
"Unfortunately, those of you who haven't received the leveling system won't have any credits yet. I'm sorry about that. We can install the system tomorrow, once the necessary preparations are complete."
He offered them an apologetic smile.
"But don't let that stop you from enjoying yourselves today. There's plenty to do without spending a single credit."
His expression softened as he looked over the group.
"Some of you have spent years in captivity, fighting, or simply struggling to survive. Others have been separated from your friends and families for far too long. You don't have to spend every waking moment preparing for the next battle."
He paused, allowing his words to sink in.
"Take a break. Walk around, try some of the desserts, watch a movie, play some games, or just sit down and talk. Get to know one another. We've got Shipgirls, Nikkes, and Kansen from the other world serving together aboard this fleet. There's a lot you can learn from each other, and plenty of friendships waiting to happen. One day, you can work together like Wales leading the shipgirls and nikkes the other day."
Yuuki smiled.
"Consider today a chance to relax and enjoy yourselves. You've earned it."
The atmosphere gradually brightened. Some of the Shipgirls were already whispering excitedly about the shops, while several Nikkes looked intrigued by the prospect of exploring a vessel that was practically a city in its own right. The common area is like a mall in the Daedalus.
"Of course," Yuuki added, "if you need anything, just ask Jarvis. He has eyes and ears throughout the ship, so he'll be able to point you in the right direction."
A familiar, composed voice answered through the ship's speakers.
"Indeed, sir. I shall be happy to assist everyone with any reasonable requests."
Yuuki nodded in satisfaction before turning back to Yorktown.
"Hana, if anything comes up, contact me directly. Don't hesitate if you need assistance."
Yorktown's expression softened.
"I will. Just make sure you get your work done and come back safely."
"Promise."
She held his gaze for another moment before finally nodding.
"Then we'll take care of things here."
"Thanks, Hana."
Yuuki gave her a warm smile before glancing around at the assembled Shipgirls and Nikkes.
"Everyone, enjoy yourselves. For once, you don't need to worry about the next mission. Just have a good day."
With that, he turned back toward the command table to finish preparing for his departure, leaving Yorktown and the others to organize the fleet's activities in his absence.
For the first time in quite a while, they had a little breathing room.
And Yuuki intended to make sure they enjoyed it.
"Wait, Commander," Yorktown called out just as Yuuki was about to finish his preparations. "How do we contact you while you're away?"
Yuuki paused and turned toward her.
"Oh, right! For those of you who already have the leveling system, there's a contacts bar on your interface. It contains the contact information of every Shipgirl who has the system, including mine, Yuu's, and Arisa's."
He paused, then added with an amused grin.
"Vergil's contact is excluded, though. His wives are rather jealous, and I don't feel like dealing with that headache. So, he only talks to me. Lieutenant Eva's contact is also restricted since she's our GDI High Secretary."
A few Shipgirls exchanged curious looks at the mention of Vergil's wives. Apparently, that was an interesting story in its own right.
Unfortunately for them, Yuuki continued before anyone could ask.
"I've already added everyone to the Combined Shipgirls and Nikkes Group. There's also a separate group for Shipgirls and another for Nikkes. You can message anyone in those groups just like you would on a regular phone."
He raised his left arm, displaying his holographic interface.
"And if your interface is too big, you can compress it to the size of a phone or tablet. You can customize the display, create your own username, and even make your own groups."
His grin widened.
"Oh, and there's GDIgram, too. You can post pictures, share updates, and chat with everyone who has the leveling system. Think of it as our exclusive social media platform."
He lifted a finger in warning.
"Just please don't post anything weird. And don't use it to vent your frustrations or start arguments. If something is bothering you, find someone you trust and talk to them directly instead of turning it into a public spectacle."
Yuuki paused, thinking about how best to demonstrate the feature.
"Here, let me show you."
With a few gestures, he compressed his interface until it became a phone-sized holographic screen. He rotated it in his hand, turned toward the assembled Shipgirls and Nikkes, and pulled everyone close enough to fit into the frame.
"Come on, everyone. Smile!"
Some smiled naturally, others struck poses, and a few looked completely caught off guard as Yuuki snapped the selfie.
Before anyone could complain about their appearance, he uploaded the picture.
YuukiAwesome has posted a picture.
A notification appeared across the GDIgram feed, displaying the photograph of Yuuki surrounded by his Shipgirls and Nikkes.
"There! That's how you do it. Create your own username, take a picture, and post whatever you'd like to share. Everyone with the leveling system can see it."
The effect was immediate.
Several Shipgirls began experimenting with their interfaces. One after another, their enormous holographic displays shrank into sleek, transparent phones or tablets that floated comfortably above their palms.
The new arrangement was considerably more convenient. They could still access all their information, contacts, and system functions without having to deal with a giant holographic screen hovering in front of them.
It was practically a smartphone, except it was holographic, customizable, and integrated directly with the leveling system.
Before long, the command room had become noticeably livelier. Shipgirls and Nikkes were comparing their new interfaces, choosing usernames, and exploring the various features.
The newer arrivals, however, could only watch.
A few Shipgirls and Nikkes who hadn't received the leveling system puffed out their cheeks, their envy painfully obvious.
"Aw... We have to wait until tomorrow?" Shoukaku complained.
Yuuki gave her an apologetic smile.
"I'm afraid so. I need to collect the necessary data on the Kancolle Shipgirls first. I don't want to install the system without properly calibrating it for them."
He gestured toward the others.
"But you can ask them to show you how everything works. That way, you won't be completely lost when we install it tomorrow."
Shoukaku sighed, but she soon joined the others to see what they were doing. The other newcomers followed suit, gathering around those who already had the system.
They might not be able to create their own accounts yet, but that didn't mean they couldn't learn how everything worked.
Meanwhile, Belfast had already finished setting up her account.
Her username was simple and elegant.
Belmaid.
She inspected it for a moment before nodding in satisfaction.
"There. That should suffice."
Enterprise, standing beside her, had taken an equally straightforward approach.
EnterpriseCV6.
Belfast glanced at the screen, then at her friend.
"Enty, that's a little too simple, don't you think?"
Enterprise regarded her with a perfectly straight face.
"It's easy to remember."
"I'm sure it is."
"Besides, it's not as though I'm trying to hide who I am."
Belfast smiled politely.
"Of course. Unlike certain people who might use this opportunity to express their affection for someone in a rather... public manner."
Her gaze drifted toward Akagi.
Akagi, who had been busy creating her own account, immediately grinned and proudly displayed her chosen username.
AkagiShikikanWife.
Kaga closed her eyes and sighed.
"Nee-sama..."
"What? It's a perfectly accurate description!"
"Must you announce it to the entire fleet?"
"Why not? I'm proud of it!"
Kaga shook her head, though the faint twitch at the corner of her mouth betrayed her amusement.
After a moment, she returned to her own interface.
Her username was considerably more restrained.
KagaWorthy.
Akagi leaned over to inspect it.
"Hmm? Kaga, don't you think yours is a little boring?"
Kaga gave her sister a sidelong glance.
"At least mine doesn't declare its owner's romantic intentions to the entire fleet."
"That's because you're too shy!"
"Nee-sama..."
Before Akagi could continue teasing her sister, Kaguya appeared with her own username ready.
KaguyaLittleMoon.
She looked rather pleased with herself, as though she had just made an important announcement to the entire fleet.
Irisviel glanced at the screen, then at Kaguya.
"Thou certainly art shameless."
Kaguya merely covered her mouth with one sleeve and giggled.
"Ufufu. Why, whatever do you mean, Iris? It's a perfectly lovely name."
"Of course you would say that."
Kaguya's smile only grew wider.
Nearby, Yorktown had finished creating her account as well.
YorktownMom.
Enterprise glanced at the screen.
"Mom?"
Yorktown blinked, then smiled a little sheepishly.
"Well... I do look after quite a few of you, don't I?"
Laffey, who had been leaning sleepily against her, nodded.
"Big sister Yorktown is Mom."
"See?" Yorktown said with a small laugh. "Laffey agrees."
Yuuki couldn't help smiling at the exchange.
It seemed the username selection process was quickly becoming an opportunity for everyone to reveal a little more of their personalities than they might have intended.
Illustrious had chosen IllyRoyal, while Unicorn went with UnicornCute.
Takao's username was TakaoKatana, and Atago had settled on Atagowoof. Maya chose Mayastrong, while Choukai preferred ChoukaiKirei.
Houshou went with HoushouSakura, and Eldridge, apparently embracing her familiar appearance and abilities, chose EldridgeKoalaZap.
Prinz Eugen selected EugenPeach, while Admiral Hipper settled on HipperIronBlood.
Eugen took one look at her sister's username and immediately smirked.
"Sis... why not HipperTsundere or HipperFlat?"
"Hey!"
Hipper's voice rose sharply as she turned toward Eugen.
"What's that supposed to mean?!"
Eugen merely laughed.
"Nothing at all, dear sister."
"Don't you dare pretend you don't know!"
A few nearby Shipgirls snickered, while Hipper looked ready to start an argument that would undoubtedly end with Eugen laughing even harder.
Avrora, meanwhile, had chosen ComradeAvrora, and Prince of Wales went with RoyalWales.
San Diego kept things simple.
Sandy.
"Hey, that's easy to remember!" she declared proudly.
The Bulins were even less complicated.
Bulin1.
Bulin2.
Bulin3.
They seemed perfectly satisfied with their choices.
Nimi selected Nimi23, Javelin went with JavelinCrown, and Laffey chose LaffeyBunny.
Vestal, naturally, chose DoctorVestal, while Akashi's username was as predictable as ever.
Akashinyaa.
"Nyaa! Perfect, nya!"
Akashi looked delighted with herself.
Considering how much stronger many of these Shipgirls had become through the leveling system, it was almost amusing to see them spending their time choosing usernames like ordinary people. Their combat capabilities had increased tremendously, yet here they were, getting excited over a social media platform.
The Nikkes were no different.
Nayuta went with NayutaPilgrim, keeping things straightforward.
Rapi, however, seemed to have taken Akagi's earlier declaration as a personal challenge.
Her username appeared on the screen.
RapiCommandersWife.
Anis stared at it.
"...What?"
Rapi looked back at her without the slightest hint of embarrassment.
"I don't want to lose to Akagi."
For several seconds, Anis could only stare.
Then she pointed accusingly at Rapi's interface.
"Since when were you this competitive about something like this?!"
Rapi calmly returned her attention to the screen.
"Since now."
Anis opened her mouth, apparently intending to argue, but ultimately gave up.
"Unbelievable..."
She then returned to her own account, keeping her old username.
AnisTTStar.
"At least mine doesn't announce my love life to the entire fleet," she muttered.
Rapi pretended not to hear her.
Neon, meanwhile, had chosen NeonFirepower.
Mary went with MaryPretty, Pepper selected PepperNurse, and Ade settled on AdeMaid.
Soda chose SodaPopMaid, while Cocoa proudly displayed CocoaCrunch.
The variety of usernames was almost as entertaining as the reactions they provoked. Some were practical, some were cute, and others were shameless declarations of affection.
Yuuki had to wonder whether the combined Shipgirls and Nikkes group would remain a useful communication channel or devolve into a battlefield of teasing and embarrassing photographs.
Knowing the people involved, he suspected both.
"Ufufu... Looks like everyone's having fun."
Kaguya appeared beside him, peering at the growing list of usernames on the holographic display.
"At least their interfaces can now function as phones, dearest. That should make communicating with everyone much easier."
She glanced toward the newer arrivals, who were still watching their friends explore the system.
"Still, those without the leveling system seem rather envious."
"Yeah, I noticed."
Yuuki folded his arms, looking pleased that the feature was already proving useful.
"We can install the system tomorrow. There's no need to rush it tonight."
He then remembered another important matter and turned toward Yorktown.
"Oh, one more thing, Hana. Make sure the medical teams collect the necessary data on the Kansen from the other world. We need to begin integrating their data into the leveling system."
Yorktown nodded.
"Understood. I'll have the doctors coordinate with the Kancolle Shipgirls and arrange the necessary examinations."
"Good. I want to make sure the system is properly calibrated for them before we start installing it. We shouldn't assume their physiology and abilities work exactly the same way as those of our Shipgirls."
"Agreed," Belfast added. "We'll ensure the process is handled carefully."
Yuuki nodded.
"Excellent. Once we have the necessary data, we can work on integrating their characteristics into the system without compromising their existing abilities."
Yorktown gave him a reassuring smile.
"Leave it to us, Commander."
"Thanks, Hana."
Yuuki glanced around the command room one last time.
The atmosphere had changed considerably. Shipgirls were comparing usernames, Nikkes were sharing pictures, and several newcomers had gathered around their friends to learn how to use the new interface. Even the earlier complaints about having to wait until tomorrow had faded as they became caught up in the excitement.
For a change, the fleet wasn't occupied with mission briefings, battle preparations, or worries about their enemies.
They were simply enjoying themselves.
And that was precisely what Yuuki had wanted.
They had spent enough time fighting for survival. They deserved moments like this, when they could laugh, tease one another, and enjoy the little things without having to worry about what the next day might bring.
Still, as another notification appeared on the growing GDIgram feed, Yuuki couldn't help but smile wryly.
At this rate, the combined group chat was going to be a disaster.
A very entertaining disaster, perhaps.
But a disaster nonetheless.
"Well, for those of you who haven't received the leveling system yet, I'll install it tomorrow."
Yuuki smiled at the newer arrivals.
"Promise?" Shoukaku asked immediately.
"Yeah, promise."
He reached over and gently patted her head.
Shoukaku's expression brightened at once.
"Then I'll be looking forward to it!"
Around them, several other Shipgirls and Nikkes seemed equally satisfied. Some were already peeking over their friends' shoulders, learning how to navigate GDIgram and customize their interfaces. Others had discovered the camera function and were eager to try it themselves.
More importantly, navigating Levelling System.
It didn't take long for the command room to turn into a miniature photography studio.
Click!
A pair of Shipgirls posed together for a selfie.
Click! Click!
A group of Nikkes gathered around a table, smiling as one of them recorded a short video.
Someone began tagging friends in their posts. Another uploaded a picture of the desserts available aboard the Daedalus. Before long, the GDIgram feed was filling with selfies, group photographs, short clips, and enthusiastic comments.
It was basic social media, really.
But for many of the girls, it was something entirely new. They were accustomed to communicating through military channels, receiving mission orders, and reporting combat results. Now, they could share ordinary moments with their friends without having to worry about their next deployment.
And they were enjoying every second of it.
Yuuki watched the growing excitement with an amused smile.
Poor girls. Some of them probably never had the chance to enjoy something as simple as social media.
Of course, GDIgram wasn't open to the public. Only Shipgirls and Nikkes who had joined GDI could access the platform, making it a private social network for the fleet.
Still, that didn't make it any less entertaining.
Especially when Akagi and Kaga decided to get involved.
"Shikikan-sama! Come here for a moment!"
Yuuki turned just in time for Akagi to pull him into a selfie. Kaga stood beside her, looking considerably more composed, though she made no attempt to escape the frame.
Click!
Akagi inspected the photograph, grinned, and immediately uploaded it.

With my husband. ❤️

Yuuki stared at the screen.
"...Akagi."
"What is it, Shikikan-sama?" she asked innocently.
"You didn't even ask me before posting that."
"But we're taking a picture together, aren't we?"
"That's not the point!"
Kaga sighed beside them.
"Nee-sama, you could at least have chosen a less provocative caption."
Akagi smiled sweetly.
"But this one is perfect!"
Unfortunately, the post had already attracted attention.
The comments began appearing almost immediately.
=============
EnterpriseCV6:Commander, would you care to explain?
YorktownMom:Yuuki?
RapiCommandersWife:Commander, we need to talk.
Belmaid:My, my. This certainly became lively rather quickly.
EugenPeach:Oh? Someone's making a bold move. You forget you have a fiancee?
HipperIronBlood:WHAT IS SHE DOING?!
KaguyaLittleMoon:Dearest, thou seemest to have attracted quite the audience.
================
Yuuki watched the comments multiply.
"...Jarvis, can I disable notifications?"
"Certainly, Sir. However, that would not prevent others from continuing to comment."
"Somehow, I knew you'd say that."
Akagi, meanwhile, was positively delighted.
"Ufufu! Look, Kaga! Everyone is commenting!"
Kaga pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Nee-sama, you've just started a war."
"A little competition never hurt anyone!"
"That's precisely what I'm worried about."
Yuuki could only sigh. He had introduced GDIgram to make communication easier, not to give Akagi a new way to declare herself his wife in front of the entire fleet.
Still, the damage was done.
And judging by the rapidly increasing number of comments, the situation was only going to get worse.
Nearby, Prinz Eugen had discovered an entirely different way to entertain herself.
Her sister, Admiral Hipper, was still glaring at Akagi's post and muttering under her breath when Eugen quietly raised her interface.
Click!
Hipper turned around.
"...Eugen?"
Another photograph appeared on Eugen's screen, capturing her sister's irritated expression perfectly.
Eugen's smile widened.
"Oh, don't mind me, dear sister. I'm just documenting a historic moment."
"Delete that!"
"Why? You look adorable when you're angry."
"EUGEN!"
Eugen was already uploading the photograph.

Hipper's face turned red.
"YOU—!"
She lunged for Eugen's phone-sized interface, but Eugen stepped aside with a laugh, holding it just out of reach.
"Come on, Hipper! You have to admit, it's a good picture!"
"DELETE IT RIGHT NOW!"
Across the room, Atago had spotted Takao standing nearby.
Her sister was trying very hard to maintain her usual dignified composure while pretending not to notice all the commotion.
Naturally, Atago couldn't resist.
She quietly raised her interface and aimed it at Takao.
Click!
Takao immediately turned toward her.
"...Atago?"
Atago blinked innocently.
"Yes, Takao?"
"Did you just take a picture of me?"
"Hmm? Perhaps?"
"Delete it."
"But you look so cute!"
"Atago."
The warning in Takao's voice only made Atago's smile grow wider.
"Ufufu. Don't worry, dear sister. I'll make sure everyone gets to appreciate your lovely expression."
"Don't you dare post that!"
Too late.
============
Atagowoof has posted a picture.
The photograph showed Takao looking thoroughly embarrassed, her face flushed as she tried to reach for Atago's interface.
The caption read:
My adorable little sister. ❤️
============
Takao froze.
Then she slowly turned toward Atago.
"...You have three seconds."
Atago laughed and darted behind a nearby group of Shipgirls.
"Ehehe! Catch me first!"
Yuuki watched the scene unfold, his expression caught somewhere between amusement and disbelief.
So much for a peaceful afternoon.
"I know you girls are having fun," he called out, raising his voice just enough to catch everyone's attention, "but please be mindful of what you share."
The Shipgirls and Nikkes gradually turned toward him, although a few were still giggling over the latest posts.
"GDIgram is meant to help you stay connected and share your experiences. It's not an excuse to embarrass someone, spread private information, or start unnecessary arguments."
He glanced pointedly at Akagi, Eugen, and Atago.
The three of them responded with varying degrees of innocence.
Akagi smiled sweetly.
Eugen merely chuckled.
Atago waved.
Yuuki sighed.
"I'm serious."
His expression softened, but his tone remained firm.
"If a post is genuinely offensive, violates someone's privacy, or crosses the line, Jarvis will remove it. Otherwise, your posts can stay. Just remember that there's a difference between having fun with your friends and making someone miserable for everyone else's entertainment."
A familiar voice answered through the ship's speakers.
"Understood, sir. I shall monitor reported posts and remove content that violates the platform's guidelines."
"Thanks, Jarvis."
Yuuki looked back at the assembled girls.
"Have fun, take pictures, share your experiences, and get to know one another. Just use a little common sense."
He paused before adding with a wry smile, "And if someone asks you to delete an embarrassing picture, at least consider being merciful."
"Does that include Akagi's post?" Enterprise's spoke.
Yuuki looked down.
Then he looked at Akagi.
Akagi looked back at him with the most innocent expression she could manage.
"...We'll discuss that later."
The surrounding Shipgirls burst into laughter.
Even Kaga couldn't quite suppress her smile.
Yuuki shook his head, accepting that he had brought this upon himself.
He had given the fleet a convenient way to communicate, share memories, and build friendships.
Unfortunately, he had also given several mischievous Shipgirls a brand-new platform on which to torment their sisters, embarrass their friends, and compete for his attention.
And the day had only just begun.
"Anyway, everyone, why don't you show your friends around? Help those who haven't received the leveling system learn how to use it. That way, they won't feel lost when we install theirs tomorrow."
Yuuki smiled at the gathered Shipgirls and Nikkes.
"Explore the ship, make some friends, and enjoy yourselves. You don't have to spend the entire day thinking about missions and combat. If anything comes up, I can still issue commands remotely. Just contact me if you need something."
He then turned toward Belfast.
"Bel, show your sisters around. Make sure all the maids get to know one another, too. I don't want anyone feeling left out."
Belfast placed a hand over her chest and gave a graceful curtsy.
"Yes, Master. I'll see to it that everyone is well taken care of."
"Thanks, Bel."
Yuuki then spotted Georgina among the gathered girls and grinned.
"Georgina, we can have that cake battle tomorrow."
Georgina's eyes immediately lit up.
"Ha! Very well! I'll spend the time today preparing and honing my skills in the kitchen." She pointed at him confidently. "Be prepared to lose tomorrow, Commander!"
"As if I will."
Yuuki returned her challenge with a smug grin.
"We'll see whose cake comes out on top."
"Just you wait!"
Georgina looked as though she was already planning tomorrow's culinary showdown.
Yuuki chuckled before turning toward Enterprise.
"Enty, I've already sent you my recommendations for horror movies. Just tell Jarvis which one you want to play."
Enterprise nodded.
"Understood, Commander. I'll make sure everyone who wants to watch can join us."
"Good. And if anyone gets too scared, don't blame me."
A few Shipgirls immediately protested.
"Who's going to be scared?" Hiryuu demanded.
Yuuki merely grinned.
"That's what they all say before the movie starts."
Laughter rippled through the group.
Finally, Yuuki turned toward Yorktown.
"Hana, the fleet is yours."
Yorktown straightened, meeting his gaze with a small but confident smile.
"Yes. Leave everything to me."
Yuuki nodded, satisfied.
Then he addressed the assembled Shipgirls and Nikkes one last time.
"Everyone, enjoy yourselves!"
"Yes, sir!"
Their enthusiastic response echoed throughout the command room.
Yuuki smiled. For once, the fleet was looking forward to a day of relaxation rather than another battle.
Then Yuu, who had been standing beside him, quietly raised her interface.
Click!
She took a selfie with Yuuki in the background and immediately uploaded it to GDIgram.
===========
DrYuu has posted a picture.
The caption was short and to the point.
About to go on a date. ❤️
===========
Yuuki slowly turned his head toward her.
"...Even you?"
Yuu gave him a mischievous smirk.
"I don't want to lose to them."
For a moment, Yuuki simply stared at her.
Then he sighed.
"Unbelievable."
Yorktown, who had seen the post appear on her own interface, let out a weary sigh of her own.
"Honestly, Dr Yuu..."
Yuu merely smiled, entirely unrepentant.
Yuuki looked between the two women before shaking his head.
"All right, fine. I give up."
He raised his left arm.
"Jarvis, establish a connection to the GDSS Philadelphia."
"Understood, sir. Establishing the connection now."
A low hum filled the command room.
Light gathered around Yuuki and Yuu as the Chronoshift system activated. A circular network of glowing energy began forming beneath their feet, its intricate patterns spreading outward as the teleporter established a connection with the distant GDI vessel.
The air shimmered.
The familiar sensation of spatial distortion began to build.
And then—
"Hug!"
Eldridge suddenly darted forward and clung to Yuu.
Before anyone could react, San Diego rushed in from the other side.
"Sandy too!"
She wrapped her arms around Yuuki from behind, beaming as though she'd just won a race.
"Hey! Wait a minute!" Yuuki exclaimed.
But that wasn't the end of it.
"I'll come as well!"
Cinderella swept forward with a bright smile, clearly unwilling to let her Prince leave without her.
"Oh, my..."
Yuuki barely had time to react.
The Chronoshift network had already reached its activation threshold.
"Wait!"
Too late.
WHOOOOSH!
The light surged.
Yuuki, Yuu, Eldridge, San Diego, and Cinderella vanished in an instant, swallowed by the shimmering Chronoshift field as the teleportation system completed its transfer to the GDSS Philadelphia.
The energy dissipated.
The command room fell silent.
Everyone stared at the empty space where the five had been standing just moments earlier.
A few seconds passed.
Then Yorktown slowly blinked.
"...Did that just happen?"
Enterprise looked at the empty platform, then at the others.
"I'm afraid it did."
Belfast pressed a hand to her forehead, looking as though she already regretted having to explain this incident to anyone.
Akagi, meanwhile, was staring at her interface.
"Wait! Yuu posted that she was going on a date, and now she has taken the Commander away?!"
Kaga sighed.
"Nee-sama, I don't think that's what happened."
"Then why did she take him?!"
"Because Eldridge and San Diego grabbed her, and Cinderella joined them."
Akagi narrowed her eyes.
"...That doesn't make me feel any better."
Yorktown looked toward the ceiling and took a slow breath.
She had been entrusted with command of the fleet for one day.
One day.
And Yuuki hadn't even made it through the door before things had already gone off course.
She turned toward Belfast and Enterprise.
"...All right. Let's get everyone organized before anything else happens."
Enterprise nodded, though the corner of her mouth twitched with amusement.
"Understood, Hana."
Somewhere aboard the GDSS Philadelphia, Yuuki was probably discovering that taking a day off from his own fleet didn't necessarily mean he would get any peace and quiet.
And Yorktown had a feeling that tomorrow was going to be a very long day.
