Chapter 13 - The Trap is Set

The golden afterglow of victory still lingered over A-City, but inside the hilltop villa, the atmosphere had shifted from pure indulgence to sharpened focus. Shen Qingyi sat cross-legged on the wide leather sofa in Lu Beichen's private study, the titanium bracelet cool against her wrist as she reviewed the latest audit files on the tablet. Soft evening light filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a warm haze over the room, but her mind was razor-sharp.

Lu Heng — Lu Beichen's second cousin and head of the logistics division — had been meeting discreetly with remnants of the Wei network. Small leaks of sensitive bidding data had already begun. It was subtle sabotage, the kind designed to test whether the Lu empire had grown soft after crushing the Wei Consortium.

Lu Beichen stood behind her, one hand resting possessively on her shoulder while the other scrolled through the same files on his phone. His presence was a solid wall of calm fury — the Ice Emperor ready to strike, but only after the perfect trap was laid.

"We let him think he's winning," Shen Qingyi said quietly, tapping a highlighted transfer. "Feed him false information through the logistics channel. Make him believe we're vulnerable on the upcoming Southeast Asia port bid. When he tries to sell it to his contacts, we catch him red-handed with undeniable proof."

Lu Beichen's fingers tightened slightly on her shoulder, then relaxed into a gentle massage. "Smart. Cruel in the best way. He'll expose his entire network thinking he's safe. Then we burn it all." He leaned down, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "You're dangerous when you plan, wife. It's incredibly attractive."

She tilted her head back to look at him, a small smile playing on her lips. "Then spoil me for being dangerous. After we set the trap, I want a quiet night. Just us. No files, no threats. You promised me uninterrupted spoiling."

His dark eyes heated. "As my wife commands."

They spent the next two hours meticulously crafting the bait. False documents were prepared — inflated profit projections for the port project mixed with fabricated weaknesses in Lu Corporation's supply chain. Lu Beichen's most trusted inner-circle hackers would monitor every keystroke once the files were "accidentally" left accessible to Lu Heng's team. Security was tightened around the logistics department without raising suspicion.

By midnight, the trap was live.

Lu Beichen closed the laptop with a decisive click and turned his full attention to Shen Qingyi. The study lights dimmed automatically as he pulled her up from the sofa and into his arms.

"Work is done," he murmured, voice low and rough. "Now I spoil my clever, ruthless wife."

He carried her bridal-style through the villa to the master suite, her laughter soft against his neck. The room had been prepared in advance — fresh white roses on every surface, chilled champagne beside the bed, and soft golden lighting that made the silk sheets glow. He set her down gently, then took his time undressing her, fingers tracing every curve as if memorizing her.

"You've been strong all day," he said, kissing the hollow of her throat. "Handling audits, planning traps, smiling through the pressure. Let me take care of you now."

Shen Qingyi melted under his touch. His hands were reverent yet commanding, washing away the tension of the day with slow caresses and heated kisses. He worshipped her body on the bed, bringing her to the edge with his mouth until she was trembling and whispering his name like a prayer. When he finally joined them, the rhythm was deep and possessive, their bodies moving in perfect sync as if they had been made for each other across two lifetimes.

Afterward, they lay tangled in the sheets, her head on his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat. Lu Beichen's fingers stroked lazy patterns along her spine.

"I love watching you plan," he admitted quietly. "The way your eyes sharpen when you see the weakness in someone's scheme. It reminds me why I waited for you all those years. Even when you chose wrong, I knew there was fire in you. Now it's free — and it's mine."

She pressed a kiss over his heart. "And you're mine. The cold CEO who signs contracts with one hand and carries his wife with the other. I used to think your ice would freeze me. Instead, it protects me while you burn everything that tries to hurt me."

They fell asleep like that — limbs intertwined, titanium bracelets clicking softly together — a quiet promise that no hidden knife in the shadows would ever separate them.

The trap began to spring three days later.

Lu Heng took the bait exactly as predicted. He requested "urgent access" to the logistics files under the pretense of routine review. Within hours, the false documents were copied and forwarded through encrypted channels to a known Wei remnant contact. Lu Beichen's monitoring team tracked every step in real time.

Shen Qingyi watched the live feed in the villa's secure command room beside her husband, dressed in a simple silk robe after their morning indulgence. Lu Beichen stood behind her, arms wrapped around her waist, chin resting on her shoulder.

"Look at him," she said softly as the screen showed Lu Heng smiling smugly in his office. "He thinks he's clever. That we're too distracted by our 'honeymoon phase' to notice."

Lu Beichen's voice was ice. "He'll learn the hard way that nothing distracts me from protecting what's mine."

To the outside world, life continued as luxurious normalcy. Lu Beichen took Shen Qingyi on a spontaneous midday drive in her new custom sports car — bulletproof, of course — along the coastal highway. He let her drive for a while, his hand resting on her thigh, praising her every smooth turn. They stopped at a secluded overlook for a private picnic prepared by the villa chef: chilled wine, fresh seafood, and strawberries he fed her himself.

"You're glowing," he observed, brushing a thumb across her lower lip to catch a drop of juice. "Revenge suits you. Being spoiled suits you even more."

She leaned in, kissing him slowly. "Both feel better when I have you."

That evening, they hosted a small, intimate dinner at the villa for a few trusted executives — a deliberate show of normalcy while the trap tightened. Shen Qingyi played the perfect hostess in a flowing crimson silk dress, diamonds sparkling at her throat and ears. Lu Beichen never left her side, his hand always at the small of her back, publicly claiming her in every subtle gesture.

One executive dared a light joke. "Mr. Lu, you've become quite the devoted husband lately. The Ice Emperor has thawed."

Lu Beichen's reply was calm but edged with steel. "I was never ice. I was waiting for the right fire. Now that I have her, the world can freeze for all I care."

Shen Qingyi's heart fluttered at the open declaration. Later, after the guests left, he rewarded her composure with another night of thorough spoiling. He drew her a rose-petal bath, joined her in the warm water, and made love to her slowly against the marble edge until the only sounds in the villa were her gasps and his low groans of her name.

But the real satisfaction came the following afternoon.

The monitoring team alerted them: Lu Heng had arranged a secret meeting at an old warehouse on the outskirts — the same district where Shen Qingyi had once been held. He planned to hand over the "sensitive" Lu Corporation data in exchange for a substantial payoff and promises of future power once the empire weakened.

Lu Beichen's lips curved in a cold, predatory smile. "Time to close the trap."

They moved that night.

Lu Beichen insisted Shen Qingyi stay at the villa under heavy guard, but she refused. "We do this together. I won't sit safely while you face family betrayal alone."

He compromised by bringing her in an armored SUV with full tactical support, keeping her well back from the action. From a secure vantage point, they watched via live feed as Lu Heng arrived at the warehouse, smug and confident.

The moment the data drive changed hands, Lu Beichen gave the signal.

Elite security teams swarmed the building. Lu Heng was caught mid-transaction, the Wei remnant contact beside him. The evidence was ironclad — recorded video, financial trails, and the false documents now timestamped with his digital signature.

Lu Heng's face drained of color when he realized he'd been played. "Beichen… cousin… this is a misunderstanding—"

Lu Beichen stepped into the warehouse flanked by security, his voice flat and merciless. "You betrayed the family that gave you everything. You tried to weaken my empire while I was busy protecting my wife. There is no misunderstanding."

Shen Qingyi watched from the feed, her expression calm but satisfied. Another knife in the shadows had been pulled out and turned against its owner.

By morning, Lu Heng was in custody. The logistics division was purged of his loyalists. Public statements framed it as "internal restructuring," but the elite circles understood the message: even blood relatives were not safe if they threatened the Lu empire — or its queen.

Back at the villa, Lu Beichen carried Shen Qingyi straight to the master suite, the adrenaline of victory mixing with fierce relief.

"You were right," he said, setting her on the bed and crawling over her. "We did it together. Now let me spoil you for being my perfect partner in every way."

The celebration was passionate and prolonged. He stripped her slowly, kissing every inch as if rewarding her for her strength and cunning. Their bodies moved together with raw need and deep love, the titanium bracelets clicking rhythmically until they both shattered, whispering each other's names.

Afterward, as they lay spent and tangled, Lu Beichen held her close.

"One more internal threat neutralized," he murmured. "But there may be others. The old Lu family branches have long memories. We stay vigilant."

Shen Qingyi traced patterns on his chest. "Let them come. As long as I have you spoiling me, protecting me, and loving me… I'm ready for anything."

He kissed her forehead, then her lips. "Good. Because my only goal in this life is to make sure my reborn wife never has to suffer again. Diamonds, empires, my entire heart — they're all yours."

Outside, the city continued its glittering rhythm, unaware that the power couple had just removed another hidden knife from their throne.

The golden days continued.

The traps would keep coming.

But Shen Qingyi and Lu Beichen faced them side by side — one the clever, vengeful queen, the other the devoted Ice Emperor who lived only to see her smile and crush their enemies.

Their story was far from over.

But for tonight, in the safety of silk sheets and strong arms, the reborn wife allowed herself to be perfectly, decadently spoiled.
