Chapter 3 - Broken… Then Rebuilt

Chapter 3: Broken… Then Rebuilt

Pain.

That was all Kairo knew now.

"Faster!"

The shout echoed across the training ground.

Children ran barefoot across sharp gravel, their feet already torn and bleeding. Some stumbled. Some cried.

Some didn't get back up.

Kairo kept running.

His breathing was steady.

His face… empty.

"Too slow."

A shadow moved.

Before the boy in front of Kairo could react—

CRACK!

He was struck down.

His body rolled across the ground and stopped moving.

"Anyone who slows down… dies."

Kairo didn't look back.

He didn't stop.

He didn't think.

Keep moving.

No Food. No Mercy. No Escape.

That night, they were given food.

One bowl.

For five people.

The moment it hit the ground—

Chaos exploded.

"Mine!"

"Get off!"

"I need it—!"

Children fought like animals.

Scratching.

Biting.

Crying.

Kairo stood still.

Watching.

Learning.

If I rush in… I lose.

He waited.

A boy grabbed the bowl and tried to run.

Big mistake.

Three others jumped him instantly.

The bowl fell.

Food scattered.

That's when Kairo moved.

Fast.

Silent.

Precise.

He slipped in—

Grabbed what remained—

And stepped back before anyone noticed.

No fight.

No waste.

He ate quietly in the corner.

For the first time…

Someone was watching him.

Seven

"You're smart."

Kairo looked up.

The voice was calm… but dangerous.

It was him.

The boy from before.

The one who fought like a beast.

Seven.

He stood there, arms crossed, eyes sharp.

"Most of them fight like idiots," Seven continued. "But you…"

A slight smile appeared.

"…you think first."

Kairo said nothing.

Seven stepped closer.

"Let's make this simple," he said quietly.

"You stay out of my way… I stay out of yours."

A pause.

"Or we can test who's stronger."

Silence.

Kairo stared at him.

Then turned away.

Not interested.

That answer…

Made Seven smile wider.

"Good," he muttered. "I hate weak people."

The Forest Trial

The next morning—

They were taken outside.

Deep into the forest.

"You have three days," the instructor said.

"No food. No weapons."

A pause.

"Survive… and return."

Someone raised a trembling hand.

"What if we don't—"

"Then you die."

Simple.

They were released.

Survival Begins

The moment they entered the forest—

The group broke apart.

No trust.

No teamwork.

Only survival.

Kairo moved alone.

Find water first.

He listened carefully.

Focused.

Then—

He heard it.

A faint sound.

Flowing.

Water.

He followed it.

Carefully.

Quietly.

When he reached the stream—

He knelt.

Drank.

And for the first time since everything began…

He felt something close to relief.

But it didn't last.

A presence.

Behind him.

Kairo froze.

Slowly—

He turned.

Seven stood there.

Smiling.

"Found you."

Hunter vs Hunter

"You followed me?" Kairo asked.

His voice was calm.

Cold.

Seven shrugged.

"You're the only interesting one here."

Silence.

The air grew tense.

"Let's see something," Seven said, stepping closer.

"How strong are you… really?"

Kairo stood up slowly.

"No," he said.

Seven stopped.

"Not interested?" he asked.

Kairo's eyes didn't change.

"I don't fight without reason."

A pause.

Seven laughed.

"That's your weakness."

And then—

He attacked.

Fast.

Aggressive.

Direct.

But—

Kairo moved.

Just slightly.

The attack missed.

Seven's eyes widened for a split second.

Too fast…

Before he could react—

Kairo stepped in.

Close.

Too close.

His hand grabbed Seven's arm—

Twisted—

Seven felt it.

The control.

The precision.

Kairo could break it.

Right now.

But he didn't.

Instead—

He let go.

Silence.

Seven stepped back slowly.

For the first time—

He wasn't smiling.

"…You held back," he said.

Kairo didn't answer.

Something is Different

Seven stared at him.

Then laughed again—

But this time…

It was different.

"Good," he said softly.

"Very good."

A pause.

"This is going to be fun."

He turned and walked away.

Kairo watched him go.

He's strong.

But more importantly—

He noticed.

End of Chapter 3

That night, as Kairo sat alone under the dark sky…

He looked at his hands.

These hands had killed.

Survived.

Endured.

But today—

For the first time—

Someone saw through him.

And worse…

They challenged him.

Cliffhanger:

Kairo survived the first test… but now he has a rival who knows his strength—and won't stop until he proves who's superior.
