Chapter 5: Hunted
Something was wrong.
Kairo felt it.
The forest was too quiet.
No insects.
No wind.
No movement.
Only silence.
Kairo slowed his steps.
His breathing became lighter.
Controlled.
I'm being watched.
He didn't turn.
Didn't panic.
Didn't react.
But his senses sharpened.
Every sound.
Every shadow.
Every shift in the air.
Then—
WHOOSH!
A blade cut through the darkness—
Straight for his neck.
Kairo reacted instantly.
He dropped low—
The blade sliced past him—
Close enough to feel the wind.
He rolled—
Turned—
Stood.
And finally—
Faced his attacker.
A tall figure stood a few steps away.
Different.
Not like the others.
His stance was calm.
Controlled.
Confident.
Not desperate.
Not scared.
Dangerous.
"…You're Ten," the boy said.
Kairo didn't answer.
"I've been looking for you."
A pause.
"Why?" Kairo asked calmly.
The boy smiled faintly.
"Because you're the strongest."
Silence.
"And I don't like that."
The Hunter Revealed
"My number is Three," he said.
That alone meant something.
Top rank.
Elite.
"You've been impressive," Three continued. "But this is where it ends."
Kairo's grip tightened slightly on his blade.
He's different.
No wasted movement.
No fear.
No emotion.
Just like him.
The Fight Begins
Three moved first.
Fast.
Too fast.
He vanished—
Then appeared behind Kairo.
CLANG!
Kairo blocked just in time.
The force pushed him back.
Stronger than the others.
Three didn't stop.
Attack after attack came without pause.
Precise.
Calculated.
Relentless.
Kairo dodged.
Blocked.
Shifted.
But—
He was being pushed back.
For the first time—
Kairo was losing ground.
Pressure
A slash cut across his arm.
Blood dripped.
Kairo didn't react.
Another attack—
He barely avoided it.
Too fast…
Three's voice came calmly during the fight:
"You're holding back."
Kairo's eyes narrowed slightly.
"I can see it," Three continued. "You don't kill unless you have to."
Another strike—
Kairo blocked—
But stumbled slightly.
"That hesitation…"
Three stepped in—
Blade inches from Kairo's throat—
"Will kill you."
Edge of Death
Time slowed.
Kairo could feel it.
Death.
So close.
His grip tightened.
Move.
But his body—
Wasn't fast enough.
Then—
A memory flashed.
His mother.
Her voice.
"Run, Kairo…"
His father falling.
Blood.
Pain.
Loss.
Everything.
Something snapped.
Not softly.
Not quietly.
But completely.
No More Holding Back
Kairo's eyes changed.
Cold.
Empty.
Dangerous.
He moved.
Faster than before.
Three's eyes widened—
For the first time—
He was surprised.
Kairo slipped past the blade—
Turned—
And struck.
CLANG!
Three blocked—
But barely.
The force pushed him back.
"…So this is your real strength," Three muttered.
Kairo said nothing.
But now—
He wasn't retreating anymore.
The Shift
The fight changed.
Completely.
Kairo attacked.
Fast.
Precise.
Merciless.
Every movement calculated.
Every strike deadly.
Three blocked—
Dodged—
Countered—
But now—
He was the one being pushed back.
"…Interesting," Three said quietly.
A small smile appeared.
"Very interesting."
Interrupted Fate
Just as Kairo moved for a decisive strike—
A sharp whistle echoed through the forest.
Both of them froze.
Signal.
The trial was over.
Three stepped back slowly.
"…Looks like you survived," he said.
Kairo didn't lower his blade.
For a moment—
They just stared at each other.
Then—
Three turned.
"But next time…" he said calmly.
"I will kill you."
And he disappeared into the darkness.
End of Chapter 5
Kairo stood alone again.
His chest rose and fell slowly.
Blood dripped from his arm.
But his eyes—
Had changed.
Because now he knew something important.
He wasn't the strongest.
Not yet.
But he was close.
And next time—
There would be no interruptions.
Cliffhanger:
Kairo survived… but now he has a true rival—someone just as dangerous, just as skilled, and determined to kill him.
