The moment Marito pressed the talisman onto the ancient bark, a low-frequency hum vibrated through the very marrow of their bones. The dense thicket of trees didn't just move; they groaned as they shifted aside, revealing a path that had been hidden from reality itself. Out of the swirling alpine mists, a massive, traditional Japanese estate emerged. It was a sprawling structure of dark wood and paper sliding doors, looking both ancient and formidable.
"Whoa! Look at that!" Gyau shouted, his excitement cutting through the tension. "There's an outdoor onsen right there! This is exactly what we needed!"
But the moment of awe was short-lived. A sudden, violent pressure crushed the air out of the clearing. Before anyone could react, a blur of motion exploded from the dark tree line. It was moving with the speed of a freight train, aimed directly at Marito.
"BOOM!"
The impact was deafening. Marito was sent flying backward, his body crashing into a massive obsidian boulder at the edge of the clearing. The stone shattered upon impact, sending shards of rock flying like shrapnel.
"We're under attack!" Anne's voice rang out through the fog, sharp and commanding. She didn't look at Marito; her eyes were fixed on the perimeter. She turned to Rio and the others with an urgent intensity. "Rio! Kawsoki! Gyau! Listen to me. There are twenty Black Candles hidden around this clearing. You must find them and blow them out immediately! Someone is hiding in the shadows of this ritual, and as long as those candles burn, we are in their domain!"
Marito pulled himself from the wreckage of the boulder, wiping a trail of dark blood from his lip. He stood tall, his eyes locking onto his assailant. Standing in the center of the path was a titan. The man was nearly eight feet tall, his muscles bulging like braided steel cables. But it wasn't just his size that was terrifying—it was his skin. It was a deep, haunting shade of Azure Blue, etched with scars that looked like lightning bolts.
"Who the hell are you?" Marito asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
The giant didn't move. His voice came out like grinding stones. "I have no name. I am simply a tool of the mountain. You may call me Monster."
Marito didn't wait for a second introduction. He raised his hands, and from his palms, tendrils of Black Shadow Energy began to coil and hiss like venomous serpents. He lunged forward, the shadows trailing behind him like a tattered cape.
The Azure Monster didn't flinch. As the shadows lunged at him like spears, he met them with his bare fists, punching the very energy out of the air. Each collision created a shockwave that flattened the surrounding grass.
"Rio! Over here!" Kawsoki yelled, pointing toward the roots of a gnarled pine. A single black candle sat there, its flame burning with a strange, violet hue that defied the wind. "I found one!"
"Put it out! Now!" Anne barked.
As Rio and the others scrambled through the underbrush to dismantle the ritual, the battle between Marito and the Monster escalated into pure chaos.
Marito leaped high into the air, the Black Shadows manifesting into jagged blades around his forearms. He descended like a falling star, aiming for the Monster's head. The giant, showing terrifying reflexes for his size, reached out and grabbed a nearby cedar tree. With a roar that shook the forest, he ripped the entire tree from the earth, roots and all, and swung it like a massive club.
Marito's shadow-blades sliced through the trunk, but the sheer physical force of the swing sent him tumbling through the air. In mid-flight, Marito twisted his body, commanding his shadows to form a giant spectral hand. The hand caught the falling tree and hurled it back at the Monster with double the speed.
The Monster didn't dodge. He slammed his fist into the flying trunk, splintering it into a thousand pieces of kindling.
In the chaos, Rio reached the third candle. As he blew it out, he felt the heavy pressure on his chest lighten slightly. "We're doing it! Keep going!"
Back in the center of the clearing, the Monster lunged, closing the gap between him and Marito in a single bound. He reached out to crush Marito's skull, but Marito was faster. Channeled by his frustration, Marito's right hand glowed with a concentrated black light. He struck downward, hitting the Monster in the chest with a blow that sent the giant cratering into the dirt.
Dust and mist swirled, obscuring the view. Suddenly, beams of Black Light shot out from the epicenter of the crater, targeting the Monster's vitals. The Monster, realizing he couldn't outrun the energy, slammed his palms into the ground.
"Earth Wall!" the Monster roared.
The very ground beneath him heaved and rose, forming a massive shield of solid rock and soil. The black beams slammed into the earth-shield, creating a blinding explosion of dust and dark sparks.
Marito landed softly on his feet, his chest heaving, his eyes never leaving the settling dust. The Azure Monster was still standing, his blue skin glowing with a faint, primal energy.
"You're tougher than you look," Marito muttered, his shadows beginning to swirl into an even more complex form.
The ritual was halfway broken, the house was in sight, but the true test of their survival had only just begun.
Marito didn't stay on the ground for even a second. While the Monster was busy defending itself behind the raised earth, Marito moved with predatory grace. In a blur of motion, he reappeared directly behind the titan.
"Too slow!"
With a fierce cry, Marito delivered a devastating roundhouse kick to the Monster's back. The giant stumbled forward from the force, but Marito was far from finished. He knew he had to keep the pressure on if he wanted to break through that azure hide.
It was then that a new energy manifested. From Marito's palms, sparks of Crimson and Black Lightning began to arc and crackle violently. This wasn't just ordinary shadow energy; it was a volatile, high-frequency electric discharge that sizzled through the mountain air, charring the grass beneath his feet.
Without hesitation, Marito hurled the crackling red-black lightning directly at the Monster. The giant didn't even attempt to dodge; he took the full brunt of the blast head-on. The lightning exploded against his blue skin in a shower of dark sparks, but instead of collapsing, the Monster roared and charged through the smoke.
The Monster's hand, large enough to crush a man's skull, clamped onto Marito's arm. With a massive heave of his shoulders, the giant hurled Marito high into the air.
Defying gravity, Marito maintained his composure mid-flight. He channeled his energy into his hand, manifesting a jagged Shadow Arrow that thrummed with destructive intent. With a snap of his wrist, he fired the arrow straight into the Monster's midsection.
The arrow struck home, burying itself in the giant's abdomen, but the Monster didn't even flinch. Ignoring the wound, he leaped into the air with terrifying speed, intercepting Marito in the sky. He grabbed Marito's arm once more and slammed him toward the earth like a meteor.
"BOOM!"
The impact shook the forest, but Marito wasn't done. Just before hitting the soil, he discharged a burst of shadow energy to act as a buffer, drastically slowing his descent. He landed in a crouch, his eyes glowing with an intense, dark light.
Marito stood up, pulling every ounce of his remaining power into his palms. The shadows and the red-black lightning began to fuse into a singular, vibrating point of compressed destruction. Within seconds, a massive Energy Sphere formed between his hands—a dark sun of chaotic power.
"Let's see if you can handle this!"
With a roar, Marito launched the sphere of destruction directly at the approaching Monster.
