Chapter 14 - I didn't feel

Marito's fingers twitched as a thick, viscous Black Air Energy began to leak from his pores, wrapping around his forearms like shadowy serpents. The temperature plunged into a sub-zero chill, and the ground began to spiderweb under the immense weight of his presence. In a blur of movement that defied human vision, Marito closed the distance, appearing in front of Konin like a phantom born of darkness.

Konin, realizing the lethal scale of the power, propelled himself into the air. He unhinged his jaw to its limit, shouting, "You aren't the only one who can play with nature, Marito!" A massive torrent of white-hot fire erupted from his throat, but he didn't stop there. He breathed life into the flames, weaving his energy to manifest a colossal Fire Dragon that roared through the mountain mist.

Marito stood like a statue of obsidian, his right fist clenched so tightly that the air around it began to distort. As the dragon descended with predatory hunger, Marito unleashed a singular, concentrated straight punch.

"BOOM!"

The collision was absolute. An explosion of black light and crimson flames tore through the clearing, sending a shockwave that flattened every tree within fifty meters. The force was so immense that the fog—the very foundation of the illusion—was vaporized instantly, revealing the jagged mountain peaks above. When the dust settled, Konin lay defeated, his flames extinguished and his body motionless on the scorched earth.

Marito walked calmly toward the fallen man and glanced back at Anne. "Anne, let's secure him."

They didn't linger. After restraining Konin, the group resumed their journey. Choosing not to bring a hostile prisoner to their destination, Marito made the cold choice to leave the unconscious Konin on the side of the highway as they drove into the horizon. They were now only a few miles from their objective.

"I can't wait to see Lake Shizen," Gyau said, pressing his face against the cool glass of the window.

[About Lake Shizen]: One of Japan's most majestic hidden treasures, Lake Shizen is a sapphire gem nestled between the peaks. Its waters are so pristine that the bedrock is visible even at great depths, surrounded by ancient, evergreen forests that haven't changed for centuries.

As they navigated the narrow, winding mountain passes, the scenery finally gave way to the shimmering turquoise of the lake. The beauty was haunting and absolute.

"What do you feel here, Rio?" Marito asked, watching the boy through the rearview mirror.

Rio closed his eyes, searching the air, but eventually shook his head. "Nothing. I don't feel anything special."

Marito nodded knowingly. "As I thought. Your intuition is sharp, but your foundation is non-existent. To understand the truth hidden beneath this beauty, you must learn to master Air."

Instead of stopping at the lake, Marito steered the SUV toward a steeper, more rugged path.

"Where exactly are we headed now, Marito?" Anne asked, scanning the rugged horizon.

"Kengamine Mountain," Marito replied.

[Real History of Kengamine Mountain]:

Kengamine is the highest peak of the famous Mount Norikura, standing at a staggering 3,026 meters (9,928 feet) above sea level. It is, in fact, a massive Stratovolcano that has been dormant for thousands of years. The rugged terrain and the dark, jagged rocks that characterize the peak are the result of ancient volcanic eruptions and cooled lava flows. Known as one of the "Three Great Peaks" of the Japanese Alps, Kengamine is infamous for its brutal, high-altitude winds and its crater lakes that remain frozen long into the spring.

"We have a special training facility set up there," Marito added.

Anne scoffed, her voice dry. "A training facility? You mean that crumbling ruin where even the masters have fled? It's a ghost building."

Marito chuckled softly. "Maybe so. But it's a roof over our heads. Besides, if we can't catch what's lurking in that river, we're all going to be finished." thanks for 2k
