Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: Level Two

The location wasn't hidden.

That was the first surprise.

It was in the city.

Public.

Visible.

A tall building.

Glass exterior.

Clean design.

No signs.

No name.

Too normal.

Jared stood across the street.

Watching.

No visible security.

No obvious markers.

"…this is it?" Iris asked.

"…confirmed."

"…it looks like an office building."

"…likely intentional."

Evan arrived seconds later.

Same expression.

Calm.

"…you came," he said.

"…expected," Jared replied.

Silence.

Then—

The doors opened.

No guard.

No receptionist.

Just access.

Invitation recognized.

Jared stepped inside.

Iris followed—

But stopped.

A soft sound.

Denied.

"…what?" she said.

Jared turned.

She couldn't cross the entrance.

Invisible barrier.

"…I can't get in."

Silence.

Jared stepped back out.

She stepped forward again—

Same result.

Blocked.

"…only selected participants," Evan said.

Iris looked at Jared.

"…don't go," she said quietly.

A pause.

Jared analyzed.

Unknown environment.

Increased risk.

Then—

Opportunity.

"…necessary," he said.

"…of course it is," she muttered.

But she didn't stop him.

Because she knew—

He wouldn't listen.

Jared stepped inside again.

This time—

No resistance.

The doors closed behind him.

And the world changed.

The interior wasn't normal.

No offices.

No desks.

Just space.

Wide.

Minimal.

White walls.

Bright lighting.

Too clean.

Too controlled.

Several others were already there.

Different ages.

Different expressions.

Same presence.

Candidates.

Jared counted quickly.

Eight.

Including him and Evan.

Selection reduced.

A screen lit up.

Black background.

White text.

"LEVEL TWO: INITIALIZATION"

Silence fell instantly.

Then—

The observer appeared.

Same presence.

Same calm.

"…welcome," he said.

No one responded.

"…those present have passed preliminary selection."

A pause.

"…from this point forward—"

The screen shifted.

New text appeared.

RULE 1: PERFORMANCE IS CONTINUOUS

"…evaluation will not be announced," the observer said.

"…every action is recorded."

Another shift.

RULE 2: FAILURE HAS CONSEQUENCES

"…removal remains in effect."

Silence deepened.

Then—

The final rule.

RULE 3: INTERACTION IS PERMITTED

A pause.

"…competition is no longer restricted."

That—

Changed everything.

Jared's thoughts accelerated.

Interaction = interference.

Competition = conflict.

Evan's eyes sharpened slightly.

Others reacted differently.

Uneasy.

Alert.

"…you may begin," the observer said.

No instructions.

No countdown.

Just—

Start.

Silence held.

No one moved.

Because now—

There was no structure.

No clear test.

Only—

Each other.

Jared stepped forward first.

Not fast.

Not slow.

Deliberate.

Because this time—

The environment wasn't the challenge.

The people were.

And unlike before—

They could fight back.
