Chapter 64
The chieftain of the Goat Tribe approached, his face alight with gratitude. "Thank you," he said breathlessly to Hayes. "Without your help, we would have suffered devastating losses again!"
Hayes shifted back into his human form. He spared a brief glance at Euphoria before looking at the chieftain, his expression returning to its usual mask of indifference. "It was nothing," he muttered. Without another word, he walked back toward Euphoria.
She quickly handed him his animal skin wrap. After months in this world, Euphoria had grown accustomed to the sight of occasional nudity, but she still couldn't bring herself to look directly at him. Hayes took the hide and wrapped it around his waist, his cold features betraying no emotion.
Because of his intervention, the chieftain's hospitality reached new heights. The next morning, he personally delivered fresh rice and salt to their door. Hayes, however, barely seemed to notice.
