Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Long Term Goals

Sitting beneath the tree where he first woke up in this world, Diablo began to calmly sort through all the information he had received. Although he had previously taken in some very general information, the amount of information he had set aside was still too much for him to digest immediately. Therefore, after listing the basic information he had previously absorbed, Diablo began to sort through the more detailed information.

He started with the history of this world first, along with the races that inhabited it and their characteristics. And, frankly, he was starting to regret putting his mind to it. Due to the sheer length of this world's history and the uniqueness of all the races that inhabited it, Diablo felt his head, which had just gotten over the splitting headache from the massive amount of information implanted earlier, once again begin to experience a vexing headache. While not as painful as the one he had felt before, the pain was enough to make him start cursing his decision to try to sort through this information.

'D*mn it! I should have started with the information that pertained to me first! I'm sure it wouldn't be as much information as the history of this world. But still, this information has really opened my eyes to this world.'

Diablo let his mind rest for a while to allow the pain to subside. Once the pain subsided, Diablo began to re-comprehend all the information he had just digested.

'Hmm... So, basically, this world is at least 4.54 billion years old. What a long history.'

"Hm? Why do I feel like those numbers look familiar? Where have I seen them before? Well, never mind, if it's that important, I'll definitely remember it later."

Ignoring the oddity of the numbers, Diablo continued his thoughts on other information.

"The races that inhabit this world, or more precisely, the Physical Realm, consist of two camps: the Good Society and the Evil Society. The races that belong to the Good Society are Humans, or in this world, Inhumans, Elves, Dwarves, and Beastkin. Meanwhile, the races that belong to the Evil Society are Demons, Vampires, Dark Elves, Dragons, and Monsters."

"Isn't that quite a lot? And they're even divided into two camps. Why is that? Judging from their names, it could be interpreted that one side is the good race and the other side is the evil race. Indeed, that's quite fitting considering the members of each race. But if that's the case, why are Dragons in the Evil Society? Back on Earth, they were such majestic mythological creatures, some regions even worshipped Dragons as guardians of their lands. By the same token, why are Inhumans in the Good Society? From the information I've digested, they're no different from humans on Earth except for their lifespan which can reach 200-300 years. And judging by how humans on Earth have acted throughout history, wouldn't their camp placement be wrong? Unless, the nature of Inhumans is different from humans on Earth or perhaps there's something else that underlies this camp division. Well, I might find the reason if I digest more information."

Deciding to continue this thought another time, Diablo began to turn his attention to other information.

'Hmm... Spirits are beings formed by Mana, huh? As such, as long as Mana remains, it's impossible for Spirits to disappear from this world. In other words, they're practically immortal. Furthermore, they don't need to rest or eat like other creatures do because Mana supplies them. They're also beings without physical bodies. They only gain physical bodies after forming a contract and manifesting in the Physical Realm.'

"Mana.... Could it be that the colorful lights in the air are Mana? If so, that means I was born from thin air, not from a woman's womb, right? Also, not needing to eat and rest means that the time wasted on eating and sleeping can be used for various other important things. Although it's a bit of a shame, I can only be patient until I can enter the Physical Realm. As Spirits, we don't have a lifespan because as long as Mana exists in the world, then Spirits will also exist. Likewise, the concept of death doesn't apply to us because of the same thing. Damn, I thought I got a second chance at life, but doesn't this seem like I just won a ticket to life in hell? I mean, come on, as a former human, being a Spirit practically seems like a hellish punishment. Well, I've already sworn to live my current life well, so I won't complain too much even if this is hell."

Resigned to wondering whether this was truly his second chance at life or simply a hellish punishment decreed by God, Diablo continued to digest more information about Spirits.

"Each Spirit can only possess one Attribute, huh? And it seems Spirits are also divided into two camps. The first camp is called the 7 Noble Spirits, which can only be contracted by those of the Inhuman, Elf, Dwarf, and Beastkin races. Each Spirit from this camp possesses the Attributes of Light, Wind, Earth, Ice, Nature, Fire, and Water. The other camp is called the 7 Wicked Spirits, which can only be contracted by those of the Demon, Vampire, Dark Elf, Dragon, and Monster races. Each Spirit from this camp possesses the Attributes of Blood, Chaos, Void, Darkness, Shadow, Illusion, and Lightning."

"Alright, my previous question was answered right away. It's now clear about the Society divisions that occur in the Physical Realm. Who would have thought that Spirits have their own factions, which resulted in the division of factions for the races that exist in the Physical Realm. Now, I wonder which faction I belong to and what Attribute I possess. Well, I'll find out later. For now I just want to rest my mind from digesting all this information. Even though I know that Spirits like me don't need rest, still, my mind has been completely drained since I woke up in this world. Not only about the reality of my situation, the stress of the new environment, the terrible headaches I had to endure twice, the amount of information I've been digesting, even if Mana does provide an energy supply for my body so that my body doesn't feel tired, but my mind has already exceeded its operating capacity at this point. A good rest is something I really need right now."

"Fortunately, there's nothing dangerous in the Spirit Realm, unless another Spirit decides to attack me. Even if that happens, as a Spirit, I can't die even if I wanted to. I'll just sleep here; I'm too exhausted to find a good place to sleep."

Deciding to call it a day, it only took Diablo a few seconds to fall into a deep sleep.

The next day.

After sleeping like a dead log, Diablo slowly began to wake up and looked around in a daze.

"Oh, right. I was so exhausted yesterday from the whole reincarnation situation and the overwhelming amount of information I had to absorb all at once, that I just decided to go straight to bed here instead of looking for a better place to sleep."

"Okay, what should I do today? Well, there's not much to do anyway. I guess I'll just have to continue sorting and digesting the information I didn't get around to yesterday. This time, I should digest information about myself."

Having decided that, Diablo began to take a comfortable sitting position before closing his eyes to sort out the information regarding himself. After a few moments, Diablo opened his eyes again with a look of shock clearly written on his face. How could he not? After digesting the information about Spirits the previous day, the new information he had obtained about himself only made him doubt his own common sense. Each Spirit could only possess one Attribute and that Attribute would come from either the 7 Noble Spirits or the 7 Wicked Spirits. That was common sense, therefore, finding out that he possessed not one, but three Attributes and that none of them even came from the 7 Noble Spirits or the 7 Wicked Spirits, was more than enough for him to lose his mind.

'Huh?! Three Attributes?! And they're even unheard of! Is this what they call a reincarnation bonus, a Golden Finger, or whatever it is?! Isn't this a cheat code?!'

"Hehe... Hehehehe.... HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Get ready, world, a new protagonist has just been born into this world! HAHAHAHA!!!"

"Ahem.... No, don't get too cocky, you idiot! You don't even understand how to use your powers yet, and you're already this arrogant. I'm afraid my future self will do embarrassing things if I continue to have this mindset."

'But, a little joy in this situation wouldn't be a sin, right? Ehehehe....'

After a bit of fun and celebration of his newly acquired power, Diablo began exploring his Attributes and trying to understand them a little.

'Hmm... It seems my Attributes are related to Space, Time, and Fate... No, Destiny, huh?'

"They look very powerful! I can't wait to try out the power of each of my Attributes. Well, although I know it will take rigorous training to make them worthy of use. After all, my Attributes have only just appeared with me in this world, and there's only basic information to guide me in training these three Attributes."

"Alright, training my three Attributes and growing stronger will be my long-term goal from now on. That way, when the time comes to form a contract, I can be of use to my contractor."

And so, Diablo set a long-term goal for himself, one he didn't know would be a very long road ahead.
