Morning came quietly—but not peacefully.
Because Elias Cole didn't believe in "peaceful mornings."
The convoy left the estate before sunrise.
Adrian sat in the back seat, watching the passing scenery through tinted glass. The world outside looked normal again—roads, people starting their day, distant noise of life pretending nothing was wrong.
But Adrian knew better now.
Normal was just what existed before something noticed you.
Hannah leaned back beside him, scrolling through her phone like she wasn't about to walk into something world-shifting.
"You're quiet," she said.
Adrian didn't look at her. "I'm thinking."
"That's new."
He glanced at her. "Do you ever stop talking?"
"No," she said immediately.
Elias sat in the front seat, driving like the road itself obeyed him.
No music.
No distractions.
Just movement.
Behind them, another vehicle carried Rose, Lirael, Selene, Niamh, and Kael.
Adrian finally spoke.
"…Where are we going?"
Hannah smirked slightly. "Family business."
Adrian frowned. "That's not an answer."
Elias spoke without turning.
"The Cole Group headquarters."
Adrian blinked. "We have a company?"
Hannah laughed softly. "We have several."
Adrian leaned back slowly.
"…Of course we do."
---
The building came into view an hour later.
It wasn't just tall.
It felt *dominant*.
Glass and steel rising like it had been designed to remind the city who controlled what it didn't understand.
Adrian stepped out of the car and looked up.
"…That's a company?" he muttered.
Hannah walked past him. "That's a small one."
Adrian stared. "That's not small."
Elias stepped beside him.
"It is," he said simply.
Kael arrived behind them, adjusting his jacket. "This is one of the entry-level corporate fronts."
Adrian turned slowly. "Entry-level?"
Kael nodded. "The Cole network is layered."
Adrian sighed. "…Everything in your life is layered."
Hannah grinned. "Welcome to the family."
They entered.
Inside, the atmosphere shifted immediately.
Not loud.
Not chaotic.
Controlled.
People moved with precision. Eyes lowered slightly when Elias passed. No hesitation. No confusion.
Adrian noticed something instantly.
Nobody asked questions.
They already knew who he was.
Or at least—they knew enough not to ask.
---
Elias stopped in the main lobby.
Then looked at Adrian.
"This is not just a company," he said.
Adrian crossed his arms. "I figured that much."
Hannah leaned on a pillar. "It's also a monitoring hub."
Kael added, "And resource distribution center."
Elias continued.
"And a containment observation point."
Adrian blinked once. "…So it's a fancy office *and* a secret war base."
"Yes," Elias said.
Adrian nodded slowly. "…Cool. Hate that that makes sense."
Then Elias turned slightly.
"Your training begins here."
Adrian frowned. "Training?"
Hannah smirked. "Did you think we brought you for sightseeing?"
Adrian looked at her. "Honestly? A little."
---
Meanwhile—another floor.
Rose stood in a wide, sealed training chamber.
The air inside was different.
Dense.
Controlled.
And alive with suppressed energy.
Across from her stood the three women.
Lirael.
Selene.
Niamh.
Rose studied them quietly.
"…You are strong," she said.
Selene answered first. "Relative to what we are fighting, no."
Lirael folded her arms. "We are lacking refinement."
Niamh nodded slightly. "And stability."
Rose exhaled softly.
"That is correct," she said.
The three exchanged glances.
Rose raised a hand slightly.
"I am not here to make you stronger," she said.
A pause.
"I am here to make you *usable*."
Silence.
That landed differently.
Lirael narrowed her eyes. "Explain."
Rose stepped forward.
"You have raw power," she said. "But raw power without control is noise."
Selene frowned slightly. "Noise?"
"Yes," Rose said calmly.
"Noise attracts attention."
That word made the room feel colder.
Rose continued.
"You are currently loud," she said. "And Adrian is already drawing things that listen to noise."
Niamh spoke softly. "So we become silent."
Rose shook her head.
"No."
She stepped closer.
"You become *precise*."
A pause.
"Control does not reduce strength," she said. "It refines where it lands."
Lirael studied her carefully. "And you can teach that?"
Rose met her gaze.
"I survived long enough beside Elias Cole to learn it," she said.
Silence.
Then Selene nodded once.
"Then teach."
Rose closed her eyes briefly.
"…Good," she said.
Then opened them.
"Because you don't have time to fail."
---
Back at the main floor.
Adrian stood in a private observation room overlooking the city.
Hannah stood beside him.
Elias watched from behind.
Kael leaned near the wall.
Adrian exhaled slowly.
"So this is it," he said.
Hannah shrugged. "One of many bases."
Adrian glanced at her. "That phrase is getting old fast."
Elias spoke quietly.
"You will understand the scale soon."
Adrian nodded.
"…I think I already am."
A pause.
Then he asked.
"…What happens after training?"
Elias didn't hesitate.
"Exposure."
Adrian frowned slightly. "To what?"
Elias looked out at the city.
"To what has already noticed you."
Silence.
Hannah smiled faintly.
"Hope you're ready," she said.
Adrian didn't answer immediately.
Then he smirked slightly.
"…They'll be ready for me," he said.
Elias finally looked at him.
And for the first time—
There was something like agreement in his gaze.
"Yes," Elias said quietly.
"But they will not like what they find."
