Chapter 17 - A New State

The creature staggered.

For the first time since it appeared—

It was unstable.

Aarav stood still, his breathing steady despite the chaos around him.

"…So it works," he murmured.

But this wasn't like before.

Not analysis.

Not prediction.

Something else.

Something quieter.

Clearer.

The creature growled and attacked again.

Fast.

Sharp.

Deadly.

But Aarav didn't react in panic.

He simply moved.

A single step.

Effortless.

The attack missed.

Not because he was faster—

But because he was already where he needed to be.

"…It's not showing me the pattern," he thought.

"It's… letting me feel it."

The creature attacked again.

And again.

But every time—

Aarav moved exactly right.

No hesitation.

No delay.

Just—

Perfect timing.

Mira watched from the side, her expression completely focused.

"…This isn't the same," she whispered.

"This is different."

Aarav stepped forward.

Closed the distance.

And struck.

Thud.

A clean hit.

The creature staggered again.

Its movements—

Less stable now.

More forced.

"…You're losing control," Aarav said quietly.

The creature let out a distorted roar.

It lunged forward one last time.

Everything it had.

Fast.

Violent.

Unpredictable.

But Aarav didn't step back.

Didn't hesitate.

Instead—

He stepped in.

Directly into the attack.

Mira's eyes widened.

"Aarav—!"

Too late.

The moment passed.

And within that moment—

Aarav moved.

A slight shift.

A perfect angle.

The attack passed by him—

Missing completely.

And in that same motion—

He struck.

One final time.

Crack.

Silence.

The creature froze.

Then—

Collapsed.

This time—

It didn't move.

At all.

The smaller creatures around them stopped.

Then—

Began to dissolve.

One by one.

Like shadows fading away.

Mira exhaled slowly.

"…It's over."

Aarav stood still for a second longer.

Then—

Relaxed slightly.

"…Yeah."

The screen appeared instantly.

Clearer than ever before.

[ B O S S E L I M I N A T E D ]

[ R E W A R D P R O C E S S I N G . . . ]

Aarav watched quietly.

"…Let's see what happens now."

The text didn't glitch.

Didn't break.

For the first time—

It felt stable.

[ R E W A R D G R A N T E D ]

A strong pulse ran through his body.

Not painful.

But powerful.

Real.

Aarav's eyes sharpened slightly.

"…That's different."

The screen shifted again.

Slowly.

As if reorganizing itself.

[ S T A T E U P D A T E D ]

[ N A M E : A A R A V ]

[ S T A T U S : A C T I V E ]

Aarav blinked.

"…So now you know who I am."

Mira stepped closer.

"…What did you just do?"

Aarav glanced at her.

"…Good question."

Because he didn't fully understand it yet.

But he knew one thing—

It wasn't the system.

Not entirely.

The screen flickered again.

But this time—

It didn't struggle.

It adjusted.

[ N E W F U N C T I O N U N L O C K E D ]

Aarav's expression shifted slightly.

"…Here we go."

But before the text could fully appear—

The screen froze.

Then—

Glitched.

Hard.

[ U N A U T H O R I Z E D E V O L U T I O N ]

The air turned cold.

Heavy.

Familiar.

Aarav's eyes narrowed.

"…Not again."

The presence returned.

Stronger than before.

Watching.

Closer this time.

Mira stepped back slightly.

"…Do you feel that?"

"…Yeah."

This wasn't over.

Not even close.

Because whatever had been observing him—

Was now paying even more attention.

And that—

Was a problem.
