Chapter 16 - Breaking Point

The creature didn't rush.

It didn't need to.

Aarav struggled to stand, his body still recovering from the impact. Every breath felt heavier, slower.

"…Tch."

Across from him, the creature stepped forward again.

Calm.

Controlled.

Like it already knew the outcome.

Mira moved instantly, placing herself between Aarav and the creature.

"Stay back," she said.

Aarav frowned.

"…You can't handle that alone."

"…Neither can you right now."

The creature tilted its head slightly.

Watching.

Observing.

Learning.

"…It's waiting," Aarav muttered.

"…For what?" Mira asked.

"…For us to make a mistake."

And they were running out of time.

The smaller creatures began to move again, slowly closing in from all sides.

"…We're getting boxed in," Mira said.

"…I know."

Aarav forced himself up fully.

Unsteady—

But standing.

"…We end this here."

Mira glanced at him.

"…You have a plan?"

"…Something like that."

Not a plan.

More like—

A risk.

The creature moved.

Faster than before.

Mira reacted immediately.

A burst of energy shot forward.

But this time—

The creature avoided it.

Easily.

It closed the distance in an instant.

Aarav stepped in.

Intercepted.

The impact shook his arms.

"…Still too strong."

The screen flickered wildly.

Almost breaking apart.

"…Yeah," Aarav muttered, "I noticed."

His vision blurred slightly.

The world around him felt unstable.

The ability—

Was reaching its limit.

"…Not enough," he said quietly.

The creature attacked again.

Relentless.

Unstoppable.

Aarav dodged—

Barely.

Each movement slower than before.

Each reaction delayed.

"…This is bad."

Mira stepped in again, blocking another strike.

But even she was struggling now.

"…We can't keep this up," she said.

"…We don't need to."

Mira frowned.

"…What?"

Aarav's eyes sharpened.

"…We just need one moment."

The creature paused again.

Watching.

Waiting.

As if understanding them.

"…It's adapting faster than us," Mira said.

"…Then we stop adapting."

Silence.

Then—

Aarav stepped forward.

Directly toward the creature.

Mira's eyes widened.

"Aarav—"

"Trust me."

He didn't wait.

Didn't hesitate.

He ran.

Straight at it.

The creature reacted instantly.

Claw raised.

Ready to strike.

The screen flickered violently.

Breaking apart.

Aarav's vision blurred.

"…Then stop analyzing."

The words left his mouth quietly.

But something—

Changed.

The screen froze.

For a single moment.

Then—

It went completely blank.

Aarav's eyes widened slightly.

"…What?"

The world slowed.

Not through the system.

Not through analysis.

But through something else.

Something deeper.

The creature's movement—

Was clear.

Not predicted.

Not calculated.

Just—

Understood.

"…I see it."

Aarav moved.

Not fast.

Not forced.

Just—

Right.

He stepped past the attack.

Effortless.

Closed the distance.

And struck.

A clean hit.

Perfect timing.

The creature staggered.

For the first time—

It reacted.

Not adapting.

Not learning.

Just—

Hit.

Mira froze for a second.

"…What just happened?"

Aarav didn't answer.

Because he didn't know.

The screen flickered back—

But different.

Quieter.

More stable.

Aarav exhaled slowly.

"…Yeah."

Something had changed.

Not just the fight.

Not just the system.

Him.

And whatever it was—

It wasn't going away.
