Chapter 13 - Instinct and command

The room felt different now.

Not just because of the silence—

But because of what had changed within it.

Kiran no longer sat like a survivor.

He sat like something else entirely.

Still human.

Still breathing.

Still aware.

But without independence.

Without choice.

Nami watched him closely, then pointed toward Rex.

Nami: "Go sit beside him."

Kiran moved instantly.

No hesitation.

No delay.

He walked toward Rex and sat down beside him quietly.

Rex looked at him for a moment.

Then looked away.

Uninterested.

As if recognizing something had changed.

Nami exhaled slowly.

Nami: "…This is disturbing."

Stefan didn't respond.

Because he felt it too.

But he didn't regret it.

Not after what he had seen.

Not after what Kiran was planning.

Minutes passed slowly.

The bunker remained quiet.

Too quiet.

Then—

Rex suddenly stood up.

His ears lifted slightly.

His body relaxed—not tense like before.

But calm.

He walked toward Nami slowly.

Then stopped near her.

And without hesitation—

He lowered his head and licked her leg gently.

A normal action.

Familiar.

Almost comforting.

But something about it felt different now.

Because beside him—

Kiran watched.

And something inside him reacted.

A shift.

A pull.

An instinct forming.

His body leaned forward slightly.

As if preparing to do the same.

Nami noticed immediately.

Her eyes widened slightly.

Nami: "Wait…"

But before she could say anything—

Stefan spoke.

Sharp.

Clear.

Absolute.

Stefan: "Stop."

Kiran froze instantly.

His body locked in place.

Mid-movement.

Then slowly returned to stillness.

His head lowered again.

Kiran: "…Yes… Master…"

Silence filled the room.

Nami stared at him for a moment longer.

Then looked at Stefan.

Nami: "…Even his instincts are changing…"

Stefan nodded slowly.

Stefan: "Type 1… overrides everything."

He looked at Kiran again.

Then added quietly—

Stefan: "…even what makes them human."

That realization settled heavily between them.

Not fear.

Not regret.

But understanding.

This power…

Wasn't just strong.

It was dangerous.

Nami sat back down slowly.

Rex resting beside her again.

Kiran sitting quietly next to him—

Like a shadow.

Like something that existed only to follow.

Outside—

The silence remained.

But it wouldn't last forever.

And inside—

Something new had been created.

Not just a team.

Not just survivors.

But something far more dangerous.

Something the new world…

Hadn't seen yet.
