Chapter 7 - Control and Consequences

The bunker didn't feel the same anymore.

It wasn't just a place to hide now—it had become something else. A base. A starting point. A place where decisions carried weight far beyond survival.

Kiran sat quietly on the floor, still trying to process everything that had happened. His breathing had calmed, but his eyes constantly moved, observing every corner of the bunker as if expecting something to jump out at any moment.

Stefan watched him for a few seconds.

Then made a decision.

Stefan: "Get up."

Kiran reacted instantly, standing up without hesitation.

That response alone was enough to confirm it.

The contract was real.

The control wasn't visible… but it was absolute.

Stefan glanced at Nami.

She understood immediately.

Without a word, she walked toward a smaller side room inside the bunker—a storage area that had been mostly empty until now.

She opened the door.

Nami: "Inside."

Kiran hesitated for just a fraction of a second.

But that was all.

Then he walked in.

Stefan followed behind him, his eyes sharp, observing every movement carefully. This wasn't just caution—it was calculation.

Once Kiran stepped fully inside—

Stefan spoke again.

Stefan: "Sit."

Kiran sat down.

Calm.

Obedient.

Too obedient.

Stefan stepped back and exited the room.

Nami closed the door.

Click.

Then locked it from the outside.

The sound echoed louder than it should have.

For a moment—

Neither of them spoke.

They just stood there, staring at the closed door.

Inside that room was a human.

Alive.

Thinking.

But no longer completely free.

Nami crossed her arms slowly, her expression thoughtful.

Nami: "We needed to do that."

Stefan nodded slightly.

Stefan: "Yeah."

But even as he said it—

Something about it didn't feel simple.

Before either of them could continue—

The system appeared again in Stefan's vision.

> [LEVEL UP DETECTED]

[HUMAN TAMING SYSTEM – LEVEL 2]

[NEW FUNCTION UNLOCKED]

Stefan's eyes narrowed.

He focused.

Reading carefully.

> [TYPE CONTROL UNLOCKED]

[YOU MAY NOW SWITCH TYPE 2 CONTRACTS INTO TYPE 1]

[NOTE: TYPE 1 – TARGET RETAINS THOUGHT BUT LOSES AUTONOMY]

[TARGET BECOMES ABSOLUTELY LOYAL. NO PERSONAL WILL OVERRIDES COMMANDS]

Stefan's expression slowly hardened.

So that was it.

An upgrade.

But not a light one.

A dangerous one.

He stayed silent for a few seconds… processing everything.

Then finally spoke.

Stefan: "Nami… I leveled up."

Nami turned to him immediately.

Nami: "Already?"

He nodded.

Stefan: "Yeah."

She stepped closer.

Nami: "What changed?"

Stefan hesitated for just a moment.

Then told her everything.

Stefan: "I still can't tame people without their permission…"

He paused.

Stefan: "But now… I can change the contract."

Nami frowned slightly.

Nami: "Change it how?"

Stefan looked toward the locked room.

His voice dropped slightly.

Stefan: "Type 2… to Type 1."

The atmosphere shifted instantly.

Nami didn't interrupt.

She listened.

Carefully.

Stefan: "Type 1 means… they still think. They still feel…"

He clenched his fist slightly.

Stefan: "…but they're not really themselves anymore."

Nami's expression became more serious.

Nami: "Explain."

Stefan took a slow breath.

Stefan: "They can't act on their own will."

He continued—

Stefan: "They can't choose. They can't disobey. They can't… be independent."

A brief silence followed.

Then he said it clearly—

Stefan: "They become nothing more than… a loyal pet."

Those words settled heavily in the bunker.

Nami looked toward the locked door.

Her eyes didn't show fear.

But they weren't calm either.

She was thinking.

Weighing.

Calculating.

Then she spoke.

Nami: "But they still feel everything?"

Stefan nodded.

Stefan: "Yeah."

That made it worse.

Much worse.

Because that meant—

It wasn't control over an empty shell.

It was control over a conscious mind.

Nami exhaled slowly.

Then looked back at Stefan.

Nami: "Good."

Stefan blinked slightly.

That wasn't the reaction he expected.

Stefan: "…Good?"

She nodded.

Her voice steady.

Clear.

Nami: "It's necessary."

She stepped closer, lowering her voice slightly.

Nami: "We don't know who he is."

She glanced at the door again.

Nami: "We don't know what he'll do."

Her eyes returned to Stefan.

Sharp now.

Focused.

Nami: "If he becomes a threat…"

She didn't hesitate.

Not even for a second.

Nami: "Change him."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Stefan stared at her.

Trying to read her expression.

Trying to understand what she was feeling.

But what he saw wasn't fear.

It wasn't hesitation.

It was resolve.

This world had already started changing her.

Faster than he expected.

Stefan slowly nodded.

Stefan: "…If he does something wrong…"

His voice matched hers now.

Colder.

More controlled.

Stefan: "I'll switch him to Type 1."

The decision was made.

Clear.

Final.

And just like that—

A new rule was established inside the bunker.

Not spoken out loud.

But understood by both of them.

Trust…

Would be given.

But control…

Would always be ready.

From inside the locked room—

A faint voice echoed.

Kiran: "…What's going on out there…?"

Neither of them answered immediately.

Because now—

They weren't just survivors anymore.

They were becoming something else.

Something this new world might fear.
