"It ended with something that was never supposed to happen."
The words settled into the room like a storm waiting to break.
Amara felt it instantly.
Her heart began to pound harder, louder, as if it already knew what was coming.
"What does that mean?" she asked, her voice barely steady.
The woman in red didn't answer right away.
Instead, she watched them.
Both of them.
As if measuring the exact moment everything would fall apart.
David took a step forward, his patience gone.
"Stop dragging this out," he said coldly. "Say it."
The woman's gaze shifted to him.
And for the first time…
There was no control in her expression.
Only something darker.
Something heavier.
"Fine," she said quietly.
She took a slow breath.
"That night didn't end in that hotel room."
Silence.
Amara frowned.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
The woman stepped closer.
"You left," she said, looking directly at David.
His brows furrowed.
"I told you—I don't remember leaving," he replied.
"I know," she said. "That's because you weren't supposed to remember what came after."
Amara felt her chest tighten again.
"Where did we go?" she asked.
The woman's eyes flickered briefly.
"To another location," she said.
David stiffened.
"What location?" he demanded.
The woman hesitated.
Then—
"A private residence," she said.
Silence.
Amara's mind raced.
"Who took us there?" she asked.
The woman's expression hardened again.
"The same people who set everything up," she said.
David's fists clenched.
"And you were there too?" he asked.
The woman nodded once.
"Yes."
Amara shook her head slowly.
"This doesn't make sense," she whispered. "Why move us?"
"Because the plan had changed," the woman replied.
Silence.
"Changed how?" David asked.
The woman looked at him.
"Because you broke it," she said.
Amara's heart skipped.
"How?" she asked.
The woman's gaze shifted to her.
"By choosing her," she said.
The words hit harder this time.
Amara swallowed.
"What happened at the second location?" she asked.
The woman didn't respond immediately.
And that hesitation…
Said everything.
David stepped closer, his voice rising.
"Answer her."
The woman looked at him.
And for the first time…
There was anger.
Real anger.
"You really don't remember anything, do you?" she said.
David's jaw tightened.
"No," he said. "So stop asking and start talking."
The woman exhaled sharply.
"Fine," she said.
She stepped forward.
Close enough that the tension between them became suffocating.
"At the second location," she began…
"everything went wrong."
Amara felt her chest tighten painfully.
"What does that mean?" she whispered.
The woman's voice dropped.
"It means," she said slowly…
"you weren't the only one who ended up with something from that night."
Silence.
Amara's breath caught.
"What… are you saying?" she asked.
The woman's gaze locked onto hers.
"I'm saying," she said…
"That night created more than one consequence."
David froze.
"No…" Amara whispered.
But the fear was already there.
Deep.
Unshakable.
"The child you've been hiding," the woman continued, her voice steady now…
"isn't the only one."
The room spun.
Amara felt her knees weaken slightly.
"That's not possible," she said immediately.
But her voice broke.
Because somewhere deep down…
She knew.
She had always known something didn't add up.
David turned sharply toward the woman.
"What are you talking about?" he demanded.
The woman didn't look away.
"I'm talking about the truth you've both been running from," she said.
Amara shook her head.
"No… no, I would know," she said. "I would know if there was another—"
"You didn't know the full truth about your first child either," the woman cut in.
Silence.
That hit.
Hard.
Amara's lips parted, but no words came out.
Because she couldn't deny it.
David stepped back slightly, his expression shaken now.
"You're saying…" he began slowly…
"There's another child?"
The woman held his gaze.
Then said—
"Yes."
The word landed like a final blow.
Amara felt tears fill her eyes.
"Where?" she whispered. "Where is this child?"
The woman didn't answer immediately.
Instead…
She smiled.
Not warmly.
Not kindly.
But knowingly.
"That," she said quietly…
"…is why you're here."
Amara's heart dropped.
Because suddenly…
This wasn't just about the past anymore.
It was about what was still hidden.
And what was about to be revealed.
