The next two weeks became a torturous cycle of hope and heartbreak.
Ava threw herself into the final stages of the project during the day — approving finishes, meeting with landscapers for the jasmine garden, and pretending everything was fine. But every evening she rushed back to the warehouse, heart in her throat, praying for rain.
Sometimes the echo returned for a few precious minutes. Sometimes it stayed away for days.
When Theo did appear, their time together grew more urgent and passionate. He no longer held back. His voice took on a raw, almost desperate hunger that matched her own.
One stormy night, the connection was stronger than it had been in a while. Ava stripped completely and lay naked on a soft blanket she had started bringing. Theo's voice surrounded her like a lover's embrace.
"I've been thinking about you every moment I can reach," he growled. "How your skin would feel under my hands. How tight and wet you'd be when I finally slide inside you. How you'd moan my name while I fuck you slow and deep against these glass walls."
Ava moaned loudly, fingers moving frantically between her legs as she followed his every command. He edged her mercilessly — bringing her close, then pulling back with filthy praise and loving words until she was begging.
"Please, Theo… I need to come for you."
"Come for me, beautiful. Let me hear how much you belong to this voice."
She shattered hard, body arching off the blanket, cries echoing through the vast space. Theo stayed with her through the aftershocks, whispering how perfect she was, how much he wished he could hold her, how he was falling deeper in love with the woman who had redesigned both his building and his heart.
But every time the rain eased, the signal weakened again. Theo began warning her more seriously.
"The final roof adjustments you're making tomorrow… they might sever the link completely. I don't know how much longer I can fight this."
Ava curled into herself after he faded, tears mixing with the sweat on her skin. The pleasure was incredible, but the emotional pain was growing unbearable. She was falling in love with a man who might disappear forever because of her own success.
