Chapter 3 - "The Cross- paths of Destinies"

Irida: (Streching her arms and yawning) let's go to a cafe. I'm really tired.

Lunette: (Freezing in place, her eyes darting nervously around the room; thinking to herself) Why do I feel like someone is staring at me with such an intense gaze?

Alex: (Approaching with a tentative smile and rubbing the back of his neck)Hi Lunette! I'm Alex. Actually, I'm having some problems with writing poetry and understanding emotions due to my past, (Looking down at his feet) Will you help me with this?

Lunette: (Clutching her books tightly to her chest; thinking to herself) Oh no! What should I do? It's better to reject him because I can't handle this many people around me. (Looking back at Alex's face and softening) But he is asking for help, and he is also suffering from his past.

Irida: (Grinning mischievously, thinking to herself) It's a great opportunity to get Lunette close to a man. If I can nudge them together, maybe she'll finally step out of her shell.

Alex: Will you help me? (He holds his breath, waiting for her answer.)

Irida: (Interjecting with a bright mischievous grin) Yes! Of course, Our Lunette is really a kind soul.

Lunette: (Baffled, Eyes wide, jaw dropping slightly and her hands fluttering nervously) But... I...I....

Alex: (Stepping closer, his expression brightening) Really, Lunette? Actually, I saw you answering, and you were praised by a strict man like Professor Leo. And you are also really beautiful and kind, So I think you are the right one to help me.

Lunette: ( Giving a small, resigned nod) Ok, but I can only give you an hour daily. We can study in the library, as they have a lot of books to help you with this. We can start tomorrow.

Alex: (His eyes gleaming with sincerity) Thank you so much, Lunette! I knew you were not only beautiful and smart but also possessed a beautiful and kind soul.

Lunette: (To herself, a small smile tugging at her lips) Alex, seems like a good guy. I think we can be friends.

Alex: (Taking a step closer, his voice dropping to a soft murmur) Lunette! Words are not enough to describe how wonderful you are. I think angels themselves would have to descend to describe your beauty.

Lunette: (Blushing deeply, she ducks her head shyly) Stop it, please! You are making me blush.

Irida: (Pouting her lips and crossing her arms playfully) Guys! I'm also here. Could you both pay some attention to me too?

(Lunette and Alex share a warm, knowing smile at Irida's playful demand.)

Leo: (Leaning back in his chair with a sharp, impatient sigh; he slams his book shut with a loud thud) Would you all please leave the classroom and continue your idle chatter outside?

(All three jump, startled by the sudden noise, and turn wide-eyed toward Leo in stunned silence.)

All three together: (In a hurried, nervous unison) Okay, professor.

(They frantically gather their belongings, exchange awkward, panicked glances, and walk toward the library)

Irida: (Slumping her shoulders, and exhaling a weary, heavy breath) I really don't want to study anymore. How about we escape to the gaming center?

Lunette: (Shaking her head firmly) No! I have to prepare for the 'English Poetry Competition'.

Alex: (Offers a quick wave) Ok, let's meet tomorrow. I'm heading home to finish my curriculum activities.

Lunette: (Waving back) Ok, bye!

Irida: (With a small, tired sigh) Bye!

[Both reach the library and walk in silence with the smell of old paper in the air. They go to the shelf to find the books. Lunette hushed conversation with Irida as they browse.]

Lunette: (Sighing deeply) Of course, we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but our English professor is a bit rude and harsh with his words and actions. We are just students, and we too are mentally, physically and emotionally tired, yet we are still moving forward in our lives and trying to live. He will not lose his fortune if he shows some kindness. I mean, it's free and makes people feel happy and good.

Irida: ( Her eyes widen, she whispers urgently, her voice trembling) Lunette look to your right, just behind me. Professor is standing there like the Devil has come to take you himself.

[Lunette turns her head slowly, her breath hitching as she finds the professor standing directly in front of her. Her face pales, but she squares her shoulders, refusing to look away even as Leo maintains a cold, unblinking stare.]

Leo: (With a slow, mocking tilt of his head) You talk a lot. So, what were you saying? I'm rude, harsh with my words and behaviour and I am not kind at all, right? Perhaps you'd like to repeat that for the whole class? Or am I still being 'rude and harsh'?

Irida: (She stummered, her eyes darting between her friend and the professor) No Professor! You misheard her. Actually...

[Professor Leo cuts her off with a sharp, dismissive wave of his hand.]

Leo: (His voice dropping to a low, icy growl) I'm not talking to you. Don't poke your nose into my matters. Ohhh, I think you are also involved with her and want to share the punishment of getting a tutor- especially from me, right? Irida: (Quickly shaking her head) No Professor! I'm not involved with her. Leo: (Pointing a stern finger toward the door) Go and complete your assignment I gave you. And one more thing: never in your life doubt my eyes, words and hearing. Understand?

Irida: (Quick sharp nod) Yes, Professor!

Lunette: (Staring at Irida with betrayed eyes, her voice barely a whisper) Irida....

Irida: (Gesturing an apology, shoulders slumped as she avoids eye contact) Lunette... I'm sorry.

[Irida leaves the scene. Her footsteps echoing in the tense silence.]

Leo: (Turning slowly toward Lunette, his eyes narrowing with a cold intensity) So what were you saying? If you have the guts to say that again, Please do.

Lunette: (Taking a deep breath to steady herself, meeting his gaze firmly) Professor, out of respect, I remained silent. However, it was just my opinion that you are a bit rude to your students, which can affect them. That's all. If you are offended, I'm really Sorry!

Leo: (A thin, humorless smile playing on his lips) You will be punished for disrespecting your professor. Your punishment is that I will be tutoring you for the upcoming "English Poetry Competition".

Lunette: (Raising her eyebrows) Don't you think this is less of a punishment and more of an opportunity for me to win, since you are the GOAT of English Poetry.

Leo: (Leaning in closer, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous rumble) Do you think it's easy to handle my tutoring? I'm ruthless when it comes to discipline, poetry and making people follow my commands. I hope you don't end up crying and stepping back from this competition- and from me.

Lunette: (A look of grim determination on her face) Professor! I'm also really strict when it comes to poetry. I'm not someone who ends up crying this easily. I hope you can handle my courage, discipline without backing off.

Leo: (Smiles mysteriously) Hummmm, let's see! Meet me tomorrow at "Sweet Cafe" at 10:30. (Pointing a finger slightly) Remember the time.

Lunette: (Nods and gather her bag) Ok Professor! I will be on time. I'm leaving now. Good Evening!

(At Lunette's Home)

Lunette: (Sighing as she looks out the window) The professor is really intelligent, but it would be good if he were kind too. (Shaking her head to clear her thoughts) Forget about that, Lunette; just focus on the competition right now.

(Next morning. Lunette and Irida are walking together towards the university.)

Lunette: (Counting on her fingers) Ok, today I have to attend the classes, then help Alex with his studies, and finally go to my tutoring session with Professor Leo.

Irida: (Fidgeting nervously with her sleeves) I'm really sorry, Lunette, about yesterday's incident, but I'm really scared of him and his tutoring sessions. (Looking at Lunette with admiration) You are the only one who can handle him.

Lunette: (Patting Irida's shoulder reassuringly) Its ok! I'm not angry with you. Let's go!

(At the University, in Professor Leo's class)

Leo: (Walking briskly to the front of the room) Good morning, everyone! Today we will discuss poetry and its impact on human beings. (Leaning against his desk, scanning the room) Has anyone ever read any poetry that had a great impact on them?

(Lunette raises her hand eagerly, her eyes bright with a newfound realisation.)

Leo: (With a warm, encouraging nod) Yes, Lunette! Please share your thoughts.

Lunette: I recently read a poem called 'Humans and their Beauty', and it had a great impact on me. (She speaks softly, almost reverently) The real beauty of humans lies in their kindness, their raw passion, their capacity for love, pure heart, and depth of their souls.

Leo: (Pausing for a moment, genuinely struck) Impressive, Lunette! It is rare to see a student let a piece of literature resonate so deeply within them. I can see the impact the poem has had on you just by the way you speak.

Leo: (Returning to his professional tone) Alright, everyone, let's dive into this theme in detail.

(The session continues for an hour. The room filled with the rhythmic scratching of pens and quiet discussio. Finally, Leo checks the watch and begins gathering his papers.)

Leo: let's conclude our session here. We will reconvene the day after tomorrow, as tomorrow is a holiday. Enjoy your break.

Class: (In a unified, relieved chorus) Ok, Professor!

Alex: (Leaning over his desk, whispering to Lunette) Hey, Lunette, are we heading to the library to study together? I could use your perspective on those notes.

Irida: (Interjecting sharply, her voice tinged with pride) Come on, Alex! Why do you always gravitate toward Lunette for help? You could ask me; I am actually quite talented, you know.

Alex: (With a playfu, biting sarcasm)Hehehehe! Indeed, Irida, how could I have forgotten that even Shakespeare himself used to take private lectures from you?

(Lunette and Alex burst into spontaneous, genuine laughter, sharing a brief, intimate moment.)

Irida: (Annoyed, her face flushing as she huffs) You both are impossible!!!!!

(Leo, who had been quietly watching them, suddenly stops his movements. He stares at the three of them- particularly the laughter between Alex and Lunette- and his expression darkens into a cold, stern frown.)

Leo: (His voice dropping to a low, icy tone) I think you all have far too much free time to waste on such trivialities. Do you want more assignments to keep you occupied?

Irida and Alex (In unison, clutching their heads): Noooooo!

Lunette: (Quickly, with a polite but forced smile) Actually, Professor, we were just heading to the library to study. Sorry for the sudden disturbance.

Irida: (Nodding vigorously, eyes wide) Yes, Professor! I was going for a self-study session, and Lunette was going to tutor Alex.

(Lunette reaches over and sharply pinches Irida's arm.)

Irida: (Yelping) Ahhhhh!

(Lunette turns to Irida, fixing her with a cold, warning glare that screams 'be quiet'. She doesn't want the Professor to know about this.) Irida: (Rubbing her arm, voice trembling) Sorry, Professor... we are leaving right now.

Leo: (Raising a hand) Lunette, wait for a second. Actually, I have the test sheets to give you for the upcoming competition.

Lunette: (Pausing, her shoulders dropping slightly) Hummm, ok Professor!

( Irida and Alex stand awkwardly by the door, exchanging a confused, sideways glance at Lunette before looking back at Leo.) Leo: (Looking up from his papers) Well! Aren't you two going?

Alex and Irida: (In a panicked scramble) Yes, Professor!

(Both practically bolt out of the classroom.)

Leo: (Gravely)Come to my desk!

Lunette: (Swallowing hard) Yes, Professor!

Leo: (Handling over a stack of papers) Here are the Sheets! By the way.....(He leans back, observing her closely)...are you free enough to tutor someone else?

Lunette: (With a hesitant, thoughtful look) Actually, Professor, he is really serious about his studies, but for some reason, he is having some issues.

Leo: (Raising an eyebrow, his voice dropping an octave) Ohh? Then why didn't he come to me for tutoring?

Lunette: (Looking down, fiddling nervously with the strap of her bag) Professor, I'm Sorry, but... well... you're intimidating, and everyone is scared of you.

Leo: (Leaning forward slightly, studying her face) What about you ? Are you also afraid of me?

Lunette: (Taking a deep breath and meeting his gaze firmly) I'm not afraid of anyone because of their looks, physique, or job. I'm more afraid of hurting someone; I always try to be respectful.

Leo: (A small, rare smile playing on his lips) That's why you are the first person to have a conversation with me for more than five minutes.

Lunette: (Nervous) AHH, Professor, I need to go. (Bows quickly and retreats in a hurry)

(In the Library.)

Irida: (Rushing over, whispering urgently) Are you ok? Did he shout at you?

Lunette: (Brushing off the tension, forcing a bright smile) I'm fine! let's study, Alex!

Alex: (Nodding eagerly) Ok!

(Irida, Alex and Lunette are studying in the Library)

Lunette: (Softening her tone, pointing to the notebook) Did you understand, Alex?

Alex: (With clear admiration, his voice softening) Yes, Lunette! Thank you so much; because of you, I will surely score good marks.

(Touches Lunette's hand gently, looking into her eyes.)

(Lunette and Irida are flabbergasted.)

Irida: (With her eyes widened and mouth open.) Woah! Alex, Do you like Lunette?

(Lunette stares at Irida with dilated pupils and is about to stop her; suddenly, Alex speaks up, clearing his throat nervously.)

Alex: (Softly but firmly) Actually, She is beautiful, kind and smart, how could someone not like her?

Lunette: (Squirming, Uncomfortable) I'm going....

Irida: Oh, come on, Lunette! (Patting the seat beside her) Sit down, let me ask him one more question: Do you like her as a friend, or as a .....?

Alex: (Blushes, averting his eyes) Ahhh..As a .....

(Leo enters with a serious expression, his footsteps echoing in the quiet room.)

Leo: (Coldly) It's time for your tutoring, Lunette.

(Lunette, Irida and Alex see Leo and stand up in shock.)

Lunette: (Hurrying, tripping over her words) Oh! Yes, Prof... Professor! I was just getting ready for it.

Leo: (Curtly) Go to the Sweet Cafe.

Lunette: (Meekly) Ok, Professor.

(Lunette leaves the library, casting one last lingering look back.)

Leo: (Watching Alex with a tight jaw, his eyes narrowing) It's time for your next class, Alex. I think you should go and focus more on your studies- rather than wasting your time on stupid and delusional daydreams about people who are far out of your reach.

Irida: (Thinking, her heart racing) Why is Professor Leo staring at Alex so furiously? It looks like he is going to beat him to death.

(Alex leaves the scene Without responding.)

Irida: (Scared, backing away slowly) Ok, Professor, I'm going too.

Leo: (Suddenly booming, a voice like rolling thunder) WAIT!

Irida: (Jumping slightly, voice trembling) Yes, Professor!

Leo: (Narrowing his eyes, voice dropping to a dangerous, low whisper) If you had focused more on your lectures rather on who likes whom, you would have become the top student, wouldn't you? (His shadow looms over her menacingly) Next time, if you ask these questions to Lunette to distract her from her studies, I will bury you in so many assignments you'll forget your own name.

Irida: (Stuttering, hands clasped so tightly her knuckles turn white) But Professor, I-I wasn't...I was asking Alex.....

Leo: (A sharp, dismissive wave of his hand that cuts through the air) Goooooo!

Irida: (Squeaking out a frantic apology) Yes, Professor Sorry!

[Leo storms off toward the Sweet Cafe, the heavy click of his boots leaving a trail of icy tension behind. Irida retreats toward the canteen, still shaken; her legs feeling like lead.]

Irida: (To herself, brow furrowed in a swirl of confusion) Why did it look so..... territorial? Was that actually jealousy? Ohh, Irida, stop it with these thoughts; it's impossible. (Biting her lip, Staring into space) But the way he entered the scene with that serious, cold expression and cut Alex off right as he was about to confess- it really looked like he was jealous. It felt too deliberate to be a coincidence. Was it intentional?

[Irida heads to the canteen and the Leo and Lunette scene will take place at the 'Sweet Cafe'.]
