Chapter 135 - CHAPTER 134: NO MORE HIDING

🖤

News doesn't stay contained not something like this, not for long. It started small, a glance, a pause, a detail someone noticed and couldn't unsee.

Cassy didn't change how she walked into the office, didn't adjust her routine, didn't try to hide it but she also didn't announce it because she didn't have to. The ring did that for her subtle but undeniable.

By mid-morning, people started noticing, quietly at first, whispers behind screens. A few double takes, a few exchanged looks because they knew what that meant or at least they thought they did.

Across the building, Caleb didn't say anything either. No announcement, no statement just… the same but not really because when he stepped into meetings now there was something different in the way he carried himself not authority, not control, certainty and people noticed that too.

By afternoon, the whispers weren't quiet anymore. They were questions, speculation, connections being made because once one person saw it everyone else followed and eventually it reached the only place it could.

The executive level a meeting was called not urgent but intentional.

Cassy walked in first calmly and collected like she always did.

Caleb entered moments later, same as always but this time there was no distance between them not physically, not strategically just… gone.

They took their seats no hesitation, no glance exchanged but they didn't need one because this wasn't something they were hiding anymore.

The room settled. Eyes moved between them observing, evaluating and then the question came direct and expected.

"Is there something you'd like to disclose?"

Silence followed not heavy, not uncertain just… waiting.

Cassy didn't look away, didn't deflect. She simply lifted her hand just enough. The ring catching the light, no words none needed.

A pause filled the room longer this time because that was confirmation not speculation, not rumor but fact.

Caleb spoke next. His voice steady and controlled. "Yes." A pause. "We're engaged."

There it was, simple and direct with no explanation, no justification just truth.

The room shifted not dramatically but noticeably because this changed things not in theory but in reality. Questions followed. Of course they did.

"Since when?"

"Does this affect your roles?"

"Why wasn't this disclosed earlier?"

Each one measured. Each one expected.

Cassy answered first calm and precise. "It doesn't affect our professional responsibilities." A pause. "And we've maintained that consistently."

Caleb added, "We're disclosing it now because it's relevant." Not defensive, not reactive just… clear.

The room absorbed it, processing, evaluating and for a moment it felt like everything might shift again like another challenge was coming, another restriction, another decision but this time something was different because they weren't reacting, they weren't adjusting, they weren't negotiating, they were standing in it fully and that changed the dynamic because there was no uncertainty left. No pattern to question, no alignment to define just truth. Clear, unavoidable.

The questions slowed then stopped and for the first time there was nothing left to challenge because this wasn't something that could be managed anymore. It was something that simply… was.

After the meeting, they walked out the same way they walked in side by side not hiding, not separating just… together and this time there were no whispers behind them, no questions left unspoken just acceptance because the truth was out and they weren't stepping back from it. Not now, not ever again because they had already made their choice and now so had everyone else.
