Chapter 3 - hide love

Love is beautiful...

Until the world decides it is wrong .

The first time Zoya saw him, she knew he didn't belong to her world.

He stood across the street, leaning against a black car, dressed in a way that screamed power and danger. His presence was enough to make people avoid eye contact.

And yet…

Her eyes refused to look away.

Zoya tightened her grip on the grocery bag in her hand and quickly walked past him, lowering her gaze.

"Stay away," her mind warned.

But her heart… stayed curious.

Zoya lived in a small neighborhood where everyone knew each other. Life was simple, predictable… and limited.

Girls like her had rules.

Come home on time.

Don't talk to strangers.

Don't dream too big.

And definitely…

Don't fall for someone like him.

A few days later, she saw him again.

This time, near the old bookstore where she worked part-time.

He wasn't alone.

Two men stood beside him, talking in low voices. Their expressions were serious, almost threatening.

Zoya pretended to arrange books on the shelf, but her eyes kept drifting toward the window.

Who was he?

Why did he look so… dangerous?

And why did her heart beat faster every time she saw him?

"Zoya!"

Her friend Sana's voice pulled her back.

"Where are you lost?" Sana teased. "Looking at someone?"

Zoya immediately shook her head. "No, I was just thinking."

But Sana followed her gaze and smirked. "Oh… I see. Tall, dark, and mysterious?"

Zoya blushed. "Stop it."

"Be careful," Sana said, her tone suddenly serious. "People like him… they bring trouble."

Zoya didn't reply.

Because deep down…

She already knew.

That evening, as Zoya locked the bookstore, she felt someone watching her.

Her steps slowed.

Her heart raced.

And then—

"Do you always ignore people like this?"

She froze.

The voice was deep. Calm. Dangerous.

Slowly, she turned.

It was him.

Standing just a few steps away.

Up close, he looked even more intimidating. His eyes were sharp, unreadable, as if they could see right through her.

"I… I don't know you," she said, her voice slightly shaky.

A faint smirk appeared on his lips.

"Exactly."

Zoya frowned. "Then why are you talking to me?"

He took a step closer.

"Because you keep looking at me."

Her breath caught.

"I wasn't—"

"Don't lie," he interrupted, his voice low.

Silence fell between them.

Zoya didn't know what to say.

Did she deny it?

Did she run?

Or did she stay… and face whatever this was?

"I'm Aariz," he said finally.

The name felt unfamiliar… yet heavy.

"Zoya," she replied softly.

"I know."

Her eyes widened. "How?"

He didn't answer.

Instead, he stepped back.

"You should go home," he said. "It's not safe out here."

Zoya hesitated.

"Why do you care?"

For a moment, his expression changed.

Just for a second.

Then it disappeared.

"I don't," he said coldly.

And with that, he turned and walked away.

That night, Zoya couldn't stop thinking about him.

Aariz.

There was something about him that felt… dangerous.

And yet… strangely comforting.

She knew she should stay away.

But some distances are harder to keep than others.

Days turned into weeks.

And somehow…

They kept meeting.

Not intentionally.

But not accidentally either.

Short conversations turned into longer ones.

Curiosity turned into connection.

And slowly…

Something began to grow.

"Why are you always so serious?" Zoya asked one day, sitting on the steps outside the bookstore.

Aariz stood nearby, his hands in his pockets.

"Because life isn't a joke."

"It doesn't have to be so hard all the time."

He looked at her.

"You don't know my life."

"Then tell me."

He stayed silent.

Zoya sighed. "You never answer anything."

"Some answers are better left unsaid."

"And some silences hurt more than the truth."

Their eyes met.

And for a moment…

Everything else disappeared.

But reality doesn't stay away for long.

One evening, as Zoya walked home, she overheard two men talking near the corner.

"Did you hear? Aariz is involved in some illegal work."

"They say he's connected to dangerous people."

Zoya's heart dropped.

No.

That couldn't be true.

Could it?

The next time she saw him, she couldn't stay quiet.

"Tell me the truth," she said.

"About what?"

"About you."

His expression hardened.

"You don't need to know."

"I do."

"Why?"

"Because…" she hesitated, "because I care."

The words slipped out before she could stop them.

Silence.

Heavy. Tense.

Aariz looked at her… differently this time.

"You shouldn't," he said quietly.

"Why not?"

"Because I'm not the kind of person you should care about."

Zoya felt tears form in her eyes.

"Then why did you talk to me? Why did you come into my life?"

"I didn't plan to," he said.

"Then leave," she whispered. "If you think you're so dangerous… just leave."

Aariz clenched his jaw.

"You think it's that easy?"

"Yes."

"No, Zoya," his voice dropped, "it's not."

For the first time, she saw something in his eyes.

Pain.

Real, deep pain.

"I have enemies," he said slowly. "People who would use you against me."

Zoya's breath hitched.

"I don't want to hurt you."

"Then don't," she replied. "Stay."

"You don't understand."

"Then make me understand!"

Their voices echoed in the empty street.

Two worlds colliding.

Two hearts refusing to listen.

"I can't be with you," Aariz said finally.

The words felt like a knife.

"Why?" her voice broke.

"Because loving me… will destroy you."

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Maybe I'm ready to take that risk."

Aariz looked at her, shocked.

"Zoya…"

"I'm not scared of you," she said. "I'm scared of losing you."

For a moment, time stopped.

Aariz took a step closer.

Close enough to feel her breath.

Close enough to lose control.

"Do you even know what you're saying?" he whispered.

"Yes."

"And if everything goes wrong?"

"Then we face it together."

His hand slowly reached for hers.

Warm.

Trembling.

Real.

But just before their fingers could touch—

A loud sound echoed.

A car screeched nearby.

Men stepped out.

Dangerous.

Armed.

Aariz's expression changed instantly.

"Go," he said urgently.

"What—?"

"Run, Zoya!"

But it was too late.

They had already seen her.

And in that moment…

Zoya realized something terrifying.

This was not just love.

This was war.
