Chapter 2 - not just a dream chapter 2

What the hell" that is what cassie said as she stood inside the cell the room wasnt big it wasn't small either. Just enough space for two beds and silence that felt too heavy.

She walked slowly to her bed and sat down.Across from her, the man was still there He sat quietly, chained up, his long black hair falling slightly over his face. When he finally lifted his head, she saw his eyes clearly green, sharp, unreadable. His eyebrows were straight, giving him a cold expression.

For a moment, their eyes met.The first real eye contact Cassie looked away first Not after everything that happened outside She didn't feel like talking. He didnt talk either.

The silence stayed between them After a while, the door opened again. A guard walked in with food Cassie watched quietly as they placed it down. She noticed the man's right hand wasn't fully chained, enough for him to eat properly.

At least they feed us here. Outside… sometimes I don't eat the whole day. I just hope my sister is eating well. she thought She sighed softly, then picked up her food and ate quietly.

When she finished, she lay down on her bed and closed her eyes. The room went silent again Only chains… and breathing.

She didn't know when she fell asleep. But suddenly She was somewhere else. The cell was gone. Everything around her was white.Too white.

The room had no walls she could see, no end, no sound. Just empty… and bright. And in the middle of it HIM. The same man from the cell He was sitting on the floor, chained just like before, his head slightly lowered.

Cassie frowned."What… is this?"He didn't answer then Something moved.

Behind him a shadow. At first, it was small… almost nothing. Then it stretched, growing larger, darker, like it was alive.Cassie's chest tightened."Hey" Before she could finish The shadow lunged. It wrapped around him in an instant.Swallowed him.Just like that.Gone.Cassie's eyes widened. Her heart started racing."What the hell?"

She woke up.Gasping.Her breathing was heavy, fast, like she had been running."What kind of dream was that…"It felt too short.Like she had only slept for a few minutes.Ten minutes at most. She pushed herself up, her head still spinning.Morning light was already in the room.

Then she froze. The man.He was awake. And he was looking straight at her.For the first time…He spoke."You saw it too, right?"His voice was low. Calm."The shadow."Cassie's heart dropped. The door suddenly opened.A guard stepped in.Cassie flinched. The sound made her jump.

The guard came in again with breakfast.

Cassie didn't say anything this time. She just watched as the tray was placed down. The door closed, and silence returned.

She looked at the man."Hey… what were you saying earlier?" she asked. "What do you mean, you saw it?"No answer. He just started eating.Cassie frowned."Excuse me? I'm talking to you."Still nothing.

"…Hello?" she tried again.Nothing.She clicked her tongue. "Okay what's your name?"He didn't respond just kept eating like she wasn't even there.Cassie stared at him for a second, annoyed.Fine. I'll eat first. She grabbed her food and started eating.Maybe he knows something about this prison…Maybe I can use him to get out…

When she finished, she pushed the plate aside and stood up.Then walked over to him.And sat down on the floor in front of his bed.She crossed her arms slightly. I don't care if you don't want to talk. I'll make you.

"Hi," she said, forcing a smile. "My name is Cassie. What's yours?"He looked at her.

Said nothing.Cassie's eye twitched slightly.

Oh my god… he's getting on my nerves.

She took a breath and calmed herself, keeping the smile."You know, you should answer when someone talks to you."A pause.Then.

He finally spoke."Stop talking to me."Cassie blinked. Then scoffed."Oh, wow."She leaned back slightly."You're the one who started talking first," she said. "Going on about shadows and all that."Her eyes narrowed a little."So what was that supposed to mean?"

Cassie watched him for a second he doesn't want to say it…She leaned back slightly.Maybe if I act nice, he'll finally open his damn mouth. She smiled."Oh, that's alright," she said lightly. "Let's just get to know each other.

No reaction.She tilted her head a little."So… what's your name?""No."Cassie blinked."…Why not?"Silence.She sighed.

"Isn't it boring just sitting here doing nothing all day?" she said. "You could at least tell me your name."A pause. Then Riven."Cassie's eyes lit up slightly."There. That's my name,"he added flatly."Now will you keep quiet?"Cassie smiled."Of course not."

Cassie leaned back slightly, still sitting on the floor."Well then, Riven… tell me this how did you end up here?"Riven didn't even hesitate."That's one thing I won't tell "Cassie blinked.

"Ohh… so you will tell me other things?" she said quickly, catching onto it. "Alright then, tell me about yourself. Don't tell me how you got here, I won't force you.She smiled.Riven looked at her."And why should I do that?"Cassie's smile slowly dropped.

"…You just said that's one thing you won't tell me," she said. "So that means you can tell me other things."Riven stared at her for a second. Then "You're just telling yourself things."Cassie froze."…No, I'm not."

Cassie leaned forward slightly."Just tell me a little about yourself," she said."Just a tiny bit. One thing can do, yeah?" Riven let out a quiet sigh."I used to be in a better place than this," he said. "With strong people."Then he went silent again.Cassie blinked.

"…That's it?" she said. "Tell me more."That's enough."She frowned."What? That wasn't even a story."Riven looked at her."Now it's your turn. Tell me about yourself."Cassie paused.What should I even say…?

Cassie tilted her head slightly, watching him.

"No," she said. "I'll tell you mine… if you tell me why you got here."She smiled, but inside There's no way I'm telling him I got caught because of bread. That's embarrassing. I'll make him work for it. And maybe… he'll say something about that shadow.

Riven looked at her, quiet as ever."You're negotiating?" he asked flatly.Cassie shrugged."Call it whatever you want."A small pause. Then she leaned forward just a little."So?" she said. "Deal?"

Riven looked at her for a moment. Then "No. Never mind. I'm not interested."Cassie blinked."…What?"She leaned forward, a little annoyed now. "Why not?" she said. "It's actually something crazy. Like something you'd think about for the rest of your life."

Riven didn't even react."I don't care."Cassie stared at him. For a second, she didn't say anything.Then she scoffed."Wow."

Cassie rolled her eyes."Ugh… you're so boring."She stood up and walked back to her bed. There was a small window beside it.She leaned closer and looked outside. It was autumn.

The air looked colder now, soft fog rolling through the distant forest. The view was quiet… almost peaceful compared to the heavy silence inside the cell.Cassie stared for a moment."…It's actually nice," she thought. Then A voice broke the silence."Don't sleep too much."Cassie paused.Slowly, she turned her head slightly Riven had spoken again

"Why shouldn't I sleep?" Cassie asked, narrowing her eyes Riven didn't look at her."Stop asking too much… if you want to live."Cassie froze."…Huh?".
