Chapter 19 - Leadership Test

Day 86.

Things were no longer just about doing the work.

Now…

They were about deciding it.

I sat at my desk, looking at the project.

Multiple sections.

Different people working on different parts.

And for the first time—

I wasn't just responsible for my part.

I was responsible for everything.

"Aarav, which approach should we follow?" someone asked.

I looked at the options on the screen.

Two paths.

One safe.

One risky.

The safe option would work.

Slow.

Stable.

The risky one—

Could give better results.

But with chances of failure.

Before, the choice would've been easy.

Play safe.

Avoid mistakes.

But now…

It wasn't just about avoiding failure.

It was about making the right decision.

"What do you think?" another teammate asked.

I stayed silent for a moment.

Both options had consequences.

Safe = no big growth.

Risky = high reward… but high risk.

My mind started racing.

"What if the risky one fails?"

"What if they lose trust in you?"

The doubts returned.

But this time…

It wasn't just about me.

It was about them.

People waiting for my decision.

I leaned back slightly.

Closed my eyes for a second.

"This is leadership," I thought.

Not working harder.

But deciding better.

I opened my eyes.

Looked at the screen again.

Then said—

"We go with the second option."

Silence.

"You sure?" someone asked.

I nodded.

"It's better in the long run."

They exchanged looks.

Then nodded.

"Okay," they said.

Simple.

But heavy.

Because now…

The result would depend on this choice.

The work started.

Everything moved fast.

More effort.

More coordination.

More pressure.

At one point, something went wrong.

A small issue.

But it slowed everything down.

"Aarav, this isn't working," someone said.

I checked.

The problem was real.

Fixable.

But time-consuming.

"This is the risk," my mind whispered.

For a moment…

Doubt came back.

"Should we switch back?" someone asked.

Everyone looked at me.

Waiting.

This was it.

The real test.

Not making the decision…

But standing by it.

I took a deep breath.

"No," I said.

"We fix it."

Silence.

"Are you sure?" another voice asked.

I nodded.

"If we switch now, we lose more time."

They hesitated.

Then agreed.

Work continued.

Slower.

Harder.

But steady.

Every step required focus.

Every fix required patience.

Hours passed.

Finally—

Things started stabilizing.

The issue was resolved.

Progress resumed.

And slowly…

The results started showing.

Better.

Stronger.

Worth the risk.

By evening—

The work was done.

Not perfect.

But successful.

I leaned back in my chair.

Exhaled slowly.

That felt different.

Not like personal success.

But something bigger.

Because this time…

It wasn't just about me.

It was about leading.

"Aarav… good call," someone said.

I nodded slightly.

No excitement.

Just understanding.

This was the level now.

Decisions.

Responsibility.

Impact.

That evening, I walked to the tea stall again.

The old man was there.

He looked at me.

"Decision day?" he asked.

I smiled slightly.

"Yeah."

"Hard one?"

I nodded.

"And?" he asked.

"It worked," I said.

He chuckled.

"That's not the point," he replied.

I frowned.

"The point is… you decided."

Silence.

He was right.

Result matters.

But decision matters more.

Because next time…

There's no guarantee.

That night, I sat in my room.

Notebook open.

I wrote—

Day 86 — Leadership Test

Then paused.

And added—

"Stand by your decisions."

I looked at those words.

Because now I understood—

Leadership isn't about being right every time.

It's about taking responsibility…

Even when you might be wrong.

I closed the notebook.

And leaned back.

The journey had changed again.

From controlling myself…

To handling others.

And maybe…

That's the real growth.
