She was never the girl people chose. Not the prettiest. Not the loudest. Aarvika had learned to stay silent — hiding her fears, her scars, and the memories she never spoke about. Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: You Are Not Beautiful

"You are not beautiful."

The words were simple.

But they didn't feel small.

They stayed.

Somewhere deep inside her.

Aarvika stood there, silent. She didn't react immediately. She didn't argue. She didn't even look up properly. It wasn't the first time she had heard something that made her feel less, but this time… it felt different.

Because it came from someone who was supposed to understand.

Her aunt had said it so casually, almost like it was a fact.

Not to hurt her.

But it did.

"Who will marry you if you say no to this proposal?"

The words followed.

Aarvika didn't answer.

She just stood there.

She had already said no to the marriage.

Quietly.

Clearly.

But that one decision suddenly turned into something else. It was no longer about what she wanted. It became about how she looked, how she was seen, and what she was worth.

That day, something changed.

Not outside.

But inside.

She went back to her room and sat down without saying anything. The door was closed, but the words didn't stay outside.

They came with her.

"You are not beautiful."

She looked at herself in the mirror.

For a moment, she just stared.

Trying to see what others saw.

Trying to understand what was missing.

Was it her face?

Her skin?

Her expressions?

Or was it just… her?

She didn't know.

But slowly, a feeling started building inside her.

A quiet one.

But strong.

Maybe…

she wasn't enough.

That thought didn't come loudly.

It came slowly.

Softly.

And that's what made it dangerous.

After that, she stopped looking at herself the same way.

Even when no one said anything—

she still felt it.

Like something was wrong.

Like she had to fix something.

But she didn't know what.

The worst part was—

no one had actually called her ugly before.

No one had laughed at her.

No one had said it directly.

But that one sentence…

was enough.

It stayed in her mind.

And slowly—

it became her own voice.

From that day—

she started noticing things she had never cared about before.

How she looked.

How she walked.

How people saw her.

And even when nothing was wrong—

she still felt like something was.

She didn't talk about it.

Not to anyone.

She just kept it inside.

Because explaining a feeling like that—

was not easy.

And maybe—

she didn't even understand it herself.

But one thing was clear.

Something had changed.

And it didn't feel temporary.

It felt like the beginning of something she wouldn't be able to escape from.
