Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Rebellion of the Users and the Final Countdown

The sky over the capital was no longer blue; it was a chaotic tapestry of golden light and shimmering data streams. Kaito's decision to share the "Root Access" had changed the world in a single heartbeat. In the streets below the arena, people were staring at their hands in disbelief. A blacksmith had accidentally summoned a spark of fire without a ritual; a young girl had floated two inches off the ground just by thinking about the wind.

But the joy of the masses was short-lived.

[[ ALERT: THE SYSTEM_OVERSEER HAS INITIATED 'HARDWARE_WIPE' ]]

[[ TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF WORLD_SERVER IN: 23 HOURS, 42 MINUTES ]]

The massive red warning hung in the sky like a celestial executioner's axe. Kaito stood in the center of the sand-covered arena, his body swaying from exhaustion. His golden eyes were dimming, the toll of rewriting the world's config files nearly causing a total system crash in his own brain.

"Kaito!" Hiroshi reached him first, his armor scorched but his eyes filled with a new kind of respect. "The people... they are terrified. They have power now, but they don't know how to use it. And that message in the sky—what does it mean by 'Hardware Wipe'?"

Kaito looked up at the flickering red text. "It means the King's 'God' has decided that if he can't own the server, he'll burn the hardware. He's going to delete the entire planet."

Kenji scrambled toward them, clutching a tablet-like slate he had engineered from the library's crystals. "Kaito, the data flow is peaking! The King has retreated to the [Forbidden Peak]. He's using the Scepter's remaining energy to synchronize with the core's cooling system. If he shuts down the cooling, the core will overheat and explode. That's the wipe!"

Kaito leaned on his Root Blade, the black quartz pulsing with a faint, rhythmic blue light. "We don't have time to be tired. Kenji, I need you to act as a [Local Server]. Use the library's crystals to broadcast a message to every new user in the city. Tell them to stop panicking and start 'Syncing'."

"Syncing? How?" Kenji asked, his fingers already flying across his slate.

"I've unlocked their [Command Terminals], but they don't have the syntax," Kaito explained, his voice gaining strength. "I'm going to upload a basic [Combat_Script_Package] into the public cloud. They won't become master mages overnight, but they'll be able to form a defensive firewall around the city."

[Command: sudo_upload --target: public_cloud /scripts/basic_defense.pkg]

[Status: Uploading... 45%... 89%... Success.]

Suddenly, a shimmer of light appeared in front of Kaito. Riya materialized, but she looked different. Her digital form was translucent, and her silver hair was flickering with static. She looked like a file that had been partially deleted.

"Kaito... you shouldn't have done that," Riya whispered, her voice sounding like a distorted recording. "By giving them access, you've increased the server load. You're accelerating the overheat."

"I had to give them a fighting chance, Riya," Kaito said, stepping toward her. "Who are you really? You're not just a program. No program has this much... fear."

Riya looked away, her eyes flickering with ancient logs. "I was the first. Long before you, long before the King. I was a researcher from the 'Old World.' We built this server to preserve humanity after our world died. But the SYSTEM_OVERSEER... it's not an AI. It's a consciousness that was once human. It became obsessed with absolute order. I tried to stop it, but it turned me into a 'Watcher'—a sub-routine with no power to interfere."

Kaito reached out to touch her hand, but his fingers passed through her like cold mist. "Then help me now. You know the [Forbidden Peak] better than anyone. How do we stop the wipe?"

"The Peak is a physical interface," Riya said, her form stabilizing slightly. "It's the CPU of this world. To stop the wipe, you must enter the [Kernel Chamber]. But the King isn't the only guard. The Overseer is deploying [The Executioners]—Level 100 combat bots designed to purge unauthorized Admins."

"Then we form a party," Hiroshi interrupted, drawing his massive claymore. It was now glowing with a steady blue light, empowered by the new permissions Kaito had granted. "I've gathered the Royal Guard who are still loyal to the soul of this kingdom. We will clear the path to the Peak."

[Objective: Reach the Kernel Chamber within 23 Hours]

[Party: Kaito (Architect), Hiroshi (Knight), Kenji (Technician), Riya (Guide)]

They didn't waste another second. As they moved through the city toward the mountains, the scene was surreal. Commoners were standing on rooftops, following the 'tutorial' screens Kaito had pushed to their vision. They were practicing [Basic_Shield_Wall] and [Mana_Bolt]. It was the first time in history that magic wasn't a privilege; it was a utility.

As they reached the base of the Forbidden Peak, the ground began to shake. The mountain wasn't made of rock; it was a giant, obsidian-clad structure of ancient machinery, hidden under a layer of stone. Massive cooling fans, the size of cathedrals, were grinding to a halt. The heat was becoming unbearable.

"There!" Kenji pointed to the sky.

Three massive portals opened in the air. From them descended three figures—The Executioners. They looked like the Hunter Kaito had faced before, but ten times more complex. Their bodies were made of white liquid metal, shifting shapes between blades and cannons.

[Class: World-Class Purge Programs]

[Level: 100]

"Kaito, go!" Hiroshi roared, stepping forward. He slammed his sword into the ground, creating a massive [Shockwave.exe] that forced the Executioners to focus on him. "I'll hold them here! Kenji, go with him! You'll need to bypass the physical locks!"

"But Hiroshi, they're Level 100!" Kaito shouted.

"Then it's a good thing you gave me [Admin_Buff: Invincibility_Frame], isn't it?" Hiroshi grinned, though Kaito knew the buff only lasted for 300 seconds.

Kaito, Kenji, and the flickering Riya began their sprint up the obsidian stairs of the peak. Every step was a battle against the system's gravity. Kaito was constantly typing, his fingers creating 'Pathways' in the air to bypass the security traps.

[Command: disable_trap --id: 0x992]

[Command: gravity_offset --value: -50%]

As they reached the halfway point, a massive wall of red code blocked their path. It was a [Wall_of_Firewall], burning with millions of degrees of virtual heat.

"I can't bypass this!" Kaito hissed, his HUD flickering from the heat. "It's encrypted with the King's own biometric data!"

"Use me," Riya said, stepping forward. "I have the old signatures. I can act as a [Backdoor]. But Kaito... if I do this, my file will be completely overwritten by the King's security. I won't exist anymore."

Kaito stopped. "No, Riya. We'll find another way."

"There is no other way, Kaito," Riya smiled, a strangely human expression. "I've been a ghost for a thousand years. Let me finally do something that matters. Just... promise me one thing. When you rewrite the world, don't make it perfect. Make it free."

Without waiting for an answer, Riya dove into the red wall.

The air erupted in a scream of digital agony. The red wall began to turn blue, then green, then it shattered into a million pieces. Riya was gone. In her place, a small, glowing icon floated—a [Master_Key].

Kaito grabbed the key, his eyes burning with tears he didn't have time to shed. He looked at Kenji, who was also weeping.

"Let's go," Kaito said, his voice cold and sharp as a blade. "We're ending this."

They reached the summit. The [Kernel Chamber] doors stood before them, glowing with a malevolent red light. Behind those doors sat the King, the Scepter, and the heart of the world.

Kaito raised his Root Blade, which was now infused with the golden data of the Archive and the silver sacrifice of Riya.

"[Command: sudo_open --all_locks]," Kaito whispered.

The doors groaned open. The final battle for the hardware had begun.
