The breach of Sector 7 felt like a tectonic shift in the digital foundation of Neo-Astheria. As the crimson corruption spilled out of the black cube, the "Under-City" began to fragment. Polygons warped, and the once-silent code of the basement screamed with the high-pitched static of a [Critical Kernel Failure].
Kaito stood his ground, the [Root Blade] glowing with a fierce intensity. The three hooded members of "The Legacy" were already being consumed; the red pixels crawled up their legs, turning their physical forms into jagged, glitching statues. They had wanted a god, but they had invited a plague.
[[ ALERT: SYSTEM_OVERSEER VIRUS SPREADING ]][[ INFECTION RATE: 0.04% OF GLOBAL SECTOR ]][[ THREAT: TOTAL DATA CORRUPTION ]]
"Kaito, you have to seal the gateway!" Riya's voice echoed, frantic and flickering. "If that red code reaches the surface, every user connected to the API will become a carrier!"
"I can't seal it from the outside!" Kaito shouted, dodging a lash of corrupted data that vaporized the floor where he had stood. "The encryption is being rewritten from the inside out. I need to [Nullify] the source!"
Kaito lunged forward, not at the Overseer's eye, but at the terminal the cultists had left behind. His fingers moved across the holographic keys in a blur.
[Command: sudo_iptables -A INPUT -s sector_7_leak -j DROP][Status: Permission Denied. Source is Level 100 Admin.]
"Damn it!" Kaito hissed. He looked up at the red eye. It wasn't just watching; it was calculating. It was using the open "Open Source" nature of the new world to find backdoors into the minds of the people.
The Surface: The First Glitch
In the capital city, the peace was shattered. A group of children was playing with a simple [Levitation.apk] script, giggling as they floated a few inches off the ground. Suddenly, their blue HUDs flashed a violent red.
The children didn't just fall. Their bodies began to twitch, their eyes glowing with a malicious crimson light. The levitation script didn't stop; it intensified. They were pulled higher into the air, their small frames vibrating as the corrupted code forced their "hardware" to overclock.
"Kenji! Look!" a student shouted, pointing to the sky.
Kenji looked up from his podium and felt his heart drop. The golden streams of mana that usually flowed through the air were being strangled by veins of dark red. "It's a [Logic Bomb]," Kenji whispered, his face pale. "Someone is injecting malicious code into the public cloud."
He immediately tapped into the city's broadcast system. "Attention all Users! Disconnect immediately! Terminate all active processes! [Command: killall -9 magic_service]! Do it now!"
But for many, it was too late. The virus was designed to bypass the 'Disconnect' command. Those who were already "Syncing" found themselves locked into their own spells, unable to stop the flow of energy that was slowly burning through their nervous systems.
The Deep Web: The Architect's Choice
Back in Sector 7, Kaito was losing ground. The Overseer had manifested a physical avatar—a swarm of nano-pixels shaped like a faceless executioner. Every time Kaito's [Root Blade] struck the entity, the feedback sent a jolt of pain through his brain.
"You gave them freedom," the Overseer's voice boomed, echoing through Kaito's mind. "But freedom is just another word for [Chaos]. I am the [Stability] they crave. I will format their minds until they are perfect once more."
"A perfect world is a dead world!" Kaito roared. He plunged his blade into the floor, initiating a [Local_Format].
[Command: rm -rf /sector_7/current_room][Status: Processing...]
The room began to dissolve into white nothingness, taking the Overseer's avatar with it. But Kaito was falling into the void as well.
Suddenly, a silver hand caught him. Riya had manifested a semi-solid form, her pixels burning bright as she held him above the white abyss.
"Kaito, the Legacy has a physical base," Riya said, her voice strained. "They are broadcasting from a hidden Server Hub in the Isles of Iron. That's how they're bypassing your firewalls. You can't win the fight here in the code. You have to stop the transmission at the source."
"The Isles of Iron..." Kaito remembered. It was an old-world industrial zone, long forgotten and buried beneath the ocean.
"I'll stay here and hold the breach," Riya said, her eyes meeting his. "I'll sacrifice my remaining cache to keep the Overseer trapped in this sector for as long as I can."
"Riya, no! If you do that, you'll lose your connection to the surface! You'll be trapped here with him!"
"I'm a program, Kaito. I was built to serve the world," she said with a sad, beautiful smile. "Go. Find Hiroshi. Find Kenji. And tell them to get ready for a [Hard_Reboot]."
Before Kaito could argue, Riya executed a [Force_Eject] command on him.
Kaito's vision blurred as he was shot back through the layers of the world's code. He felt the cold air of the surface hit his face. He was back on his balcony in the capital, but the city he looked out upon was in flames. Red lightning arched between the buildings, and the screams of people trapped in their own magic filled the air.
He looked at his hand. The [Root Blade] was dull, its light flickering.
[New Quest: The Isles of Iron][Objective: Destroy the Legacy Server Hub][Time Remaining until Global Corruption: 06:12:45]
Kaito gritted his teeth. He didn't have a party. He didn't have an army. But he had the source code. And he was going to make the Legacy regret ever trying to install a "Patch" on his world.
