It looks like a very boring class, Morris thought.
So he simply gave up listening to the lectures and focused all his attention on Professor Binns himself.
He was more interested in Professor Binns himself than in the fact that there was little knowledge already written in books.
The Ghost Professor, now that feels like the magical world.
"In the early 15th century, witch hunts gradually spread throughout Muggle society, coupled with frequent inter-regional disputes among wizards..."
Hermione raised her hand. "Professor! I have a question!"
Professor Binns was taken aback, as if he had not expected this scene.
"Speak," he said calmly, his tone devoid of any emotion.
Hermione stood up and asked, "Regarding the witch hunts, are the Muggles hunting real wizards?"
This girl was actually listening to the lesson!
Morrison was somewhat surprised.
Professor Binns glanced in Hermione's direction and began to answer her question.
But then, Morris keenly noticed that Professor Binns' gaze lingered on him for a few seconds.
Once the question was answered, Hermione sat down contentedly.
Strangely, Professor Binns did not continue lecturing, but instead slowly glided across the podium and floated to Morris's side.
Morris instinctively looked up at him.
Unexpectedly, Professor Binns' previously empty eyes were now focused precisely on him.
Morris looked around and realized that everyone's eyes were on him.
"Is there a problem?" he asked.
However, Professor Binns simply shook his head, returned to the podium, and continued lecturing in his monotonous voice, his eyes returning to normal.
Morris felt completely bewildered.
And just like that, class time passed quickly.
As the bell rang, the students walked out of the classroom one after another, as if granted a pardon.
Ron yawned and patted Maurice on the shoulder. "Maurice, would you like to come with us to the hall? We want to talk to you about what happened last night."
Harry finished packing his things and came over with a friendly smile. "We have a lot of questions for you."
Seeing this, Hermione pursed her lips, said nothing, and quickly picked up her textbooks and notes, leaving the classroom first.
Morris glanced at Professor Binns on the podium, shook his head, and said, "You all go ahead, I have other things to do."
Harry nodded. "Okay, see you in the Great Hall."
The two left with the crowd, and the classroom quickly became empty, leaving only Professor Binns, Morris, and a magical broom that was automatically cleaning.
Morris silently walked to the podium and looked directly at Professor Binns, who was standing there.
Professor Binns' eyes cleared again.
"Hello, Professor Binns," Morris said. "I am Maurice Black. It seems you have something to discuss with me."
Professor Bins smiled slightly.
Morris was surprised; this was the first time he had seen Professor Binns' expression change.
Professor Binns said gently, "Then may I call you Morris?"
This tone is completely different from when he speaks in class; it gives the impression of a friendly, elderly neighbor.
Morris was taken aback. "Of course, Professor."
"Very well, Morris." Professor Binns nodded slightly, looking at him with his now clear eyes. "Before we begin our conversation, I would like to confirm one thing."
"Are you—the Grim Reaper?"
"grim Reaper?"
Morris tilted his head, never expecting Professor Binns to ask such a question.
It's even somewhat absurd.
Professor Binns observed his expression and continued, "Ah, perhaps I'm mistaken, but one thing is certain."
"You are a wizard favored by death."
Morris's heart skipped a beat.
Professor Binns' statement is so convincing.
"I don't understand, Professor," Morris began cautiously. "What does it mean? It doesn't sound like a blessing."
"It's certainly not a blessing, but it's not necessarily a curse either." Professor Binns floated closer. "Death is close to you. I think those creatures at Hogwarts named Thestrals are very close to you, aren't they?"
Morris did not deny it.
"It seems I was right." Professor Binns chuckled.
"So, Professor," Morris asked the most crucial question at this point, "why are you telling me this? Is it just to tell me this?"
The faint smile on Professor Binns' face vanished.
He drifted further away from the podium, as if he were organizing his thoughts.
Then, in an extremely calm tone, he said:
"Being blessed by death is an extremely rare ability for a wizard. Only someone with this ability can help me."
"This is my personal request, Maurice. When you are strong enough, if you can—"
"Kill me."
Chapter 39 Two Faces
Morris admitted that he was taken aback by that statement.
He composed himself and pressed, "What do you mean by 'kill you'?"
If he wasn't mistaken, Professor Binns was a genuine ghost.
Logically speaking, since a ghost is already dead, how can it die again?
He needs a clearer explanation.
Professor Binns seemed to have anticipated Morris's reaction, stroking his beard and speaking calmly.
"I think you should know that not all the dead become ghosts. Ghosts are the result of people choosing to remain in the world after death."
"To explain in detail, we have to go back to the very beginning of Hogwarts' founding. Simply put, I was cursed into becoming a ghost, but I myself... didn't actually have any intention of becoming a ghost."
"What's worse is that a ghost like me can't end my own life."
Morris nodded slowly, understanding what Professor Binns meant.
Cursed and turned into a ghost?
That's truly a tragic thing.
Even suicide is impossible.
He tried to touch Professor Binns with his hand, but it was obvious that his hand went straight through Professor Binns' body.
As we all know, ordinary people can't encounter ghosts, so they naturally can't "kill" them.
But Maurice was a necromancer, and he believed he would be able to do it someday.
"If it doesn't require me to pay any price," he said, "I would be happy to help you, Professor Binns."
He has always been a helpful person.
Upon receiving an affirmative reply, Professor Binns smiled and narrowed his eyes.
"Thank you," he said. "Of course, that will have to wait until you are able to do it. Maybe a few years, maybe decades, or maybe a lifetime."
"I will try my best," Morris said earnestly.
Professor Binns patted Morris on the shoulder with satisfaction—though his hand went right through him.
"If you really do it, Maurice," he said mysteriously, "when you successfully lift the curse from me and allow me to rest in peace… I will give you a surprise as your reward."
"A surprise?" Maurice was taken aback. "What is it?"
"If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise." A sly glint flashed in Professor Binns' eyes, making him seem a little more lively. "Stay tuned."
Morris wanted to press for more information, but Professor Binns waved his hand.
"Okay, after talking to you for so long, my head is starting to hurt. I can't stay in this state for long."
Goodbye, Maurice.
As soon as he finished speaking, the lively expression on his face vanished instantly, replaced by the empty and indifferent look he usually wore during class.
"Professor Binns?" Morris waved his hand in front of Professor Binns's eyes.
But the ghost professor merely nodded slightly, then his body disappeared into the blackboard.
Morris was somewhat helpless.
