Morris had realized that his skeletal dog was completely incapable of thinking—which was normal, since skeletal dogs don't have brains.
It can only understand simple instructions.
As for combat ability, it doesn't seem to be that strong.
But it doesn't matter.
He had no ulterior motive whatsoever in transforming this undead creature.
It's simply what he wanted to do.
He just wanted to see what the skeleton would look like when it moved, that was all.
Sometimes, you don't need a clear purpose or far-reaching scheme to do something.
Morris prefers to act based on instinctive curiosity.
It was already very late, so he went back to bed and yawned.
Now, it's time to sleep.
Before closing his eyes, he habitually glanced at the book of mages.
To everyone's delight, a brand new spell appeared above at some point – the Bone Summoning Spell.
In an instant, his weariness was dispelled by a burning curiosity.
New spell!
Looks like... I won't be getting any sleep tonight.
Chapter 44 Bone Summoning Technique
The morning sunlight streamed through the glass window and fell on Maurice's face.
Morris rubbed his eyes and stretched his somewhat stiff body.
While researching the Bone-Calling Technique, I didn't realize that dawn had already broken.
The spell was far more sophisticated than he had imagined, and its effect was to summon all sorts of bone artifacts.
For example, bone spurs, bone spears, bone shields, and even bone vases.
Very convenient.
Of course, the simplest ones are bone spurs and bone shields.
It can be considered a physical-level defensive and offensive tactic.
If one is open-minded, Morris thinks these bones could even be used to make bone broth.
Try it next time...
I don't know what flavor it is.
"Bone Summoning Technique!"
As Maurice chanted softly, three sharp, grayish-white bone spikes instantly materialized in mid-air.
They were about half an arm's length long, shooting straight at the opposite wall.
"Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!"
Three muffled, piercing sounds rang out as bone spikes sank deep into the hard wooden wall.
A simple yet sharp attack.
Morris went in to take a look and found that the bone spur was embedded nearly halfway into the wooden wall, and it was firmly embedded.
It seems there's no need to worry about its power.
Next, he began testing the strength of the bone shield.
Unfortunately, the offensive magic he currently possesses is quite limited. Apart from a few mischievous spells, the only truly offensive weapon seems to be the raging flames.
"Bone Summoning Technique!"
A bone shield large enough to cover Maurice's entire body floated in the air.
Then there's...
"Flames are raging!"
He raised his wand, and blazing flames erupted from its tip, striking the surface of the bone shield.
The flames illuminated the room in a fiery red glow.
However, the expected violent collision did not occur. The moment the flames touched the bone shield, they naturally split to both sides, like water hitting a smooth round stone.
A minute later, Morris stopped casting the fire spell.
The heatwave dissipated, and the bone shield remained unchanged, perfectly intact, without even a trace of scorch marks.
He reached out and touched the shield; it was warm, but not scalding.
Next, he tried to cast the few minor curses he knew on the bone shield. Without exception, all the curses were deflected, and the bone shield itself was not damaged.
This is good news for Morris.
If you're skilled enough, summoning a bone shield is a matter of a split second.
This can already be considered a qualified defensive measure.
After practicing for a while, Morris sat down in a chair to rest.
In fact, new spells appearing in the Book of Mages always come without warning.
But he already had a preliminary guess about this—that new content would appear in the Book of Mages whenever he became proficient in the old content.
Of course, this is just speculation. The exact mechanism of the Book of Mages still needs further observation.
"Knock knock!"
Just then, there was a knock on the wooden door of the room.
Morris got up and opened the door, only to find an unfamiliar upperclassman standing outside.
The man was staring at him with a very displeased expression, his brows furrowed so deeply they could trap a fly.
Morris was taken aback. "May I ask who you are...?"
He was certain he hadn't provoked the other party.
Is it one of those classic TV drama plots where older students cause trouble?
But it's been two weeks since school started, isn't it a bit late to come now?
"I am Roger Davis," the man said coldly, as if suppressing his anger. "I live next door. And what are you doing this morning, making so much noise?"
"Uh," Morris laughed awkwardly, "I'm sorry, Davis."
I guess my attempts at magic this morning were a bit too loud and disturbed other people's rest.
Then what's there to say? Apologize.
First, adopt the right attitude, since you are in the wrong.
Perhaps seeing that Maurice's apology was sincere, Roger's attitude softened slightly.
He looked puzzled and asked again, "So, what did you do in the room? Logically speaking, the walls here are all soundproofed, so no matter what you do, we shouldn't be able to hear you."
"A soundproofing spell?"
Morris glanced into the room, where the large holes in the wall from the bone spurs were particularly noticeable.
It seems that his bone spurs not only pierced through the wooden wall, but may have also damaged the soundproofing spells attached to it.
No wonder the commotion got out.
"I was just practicing magic, but it seems I accidentally damaged the wall," Morris apologized sincerely. "I'm sorry."
Upon hearing this, Roger rubbed his forehead, his tone helpless: "Alright, this happens often, just be more careful next time. Also, remember to repair your walls and soundproofing spells."
After saying that, the senior student immediately planned to return to the room next door.
Since the other party showed a good attitude in admitting their mistake, he did not intend to be aggressive.
"Wait!" Morris called out to him.
Roger turned around, looking impatient. "What's wrong?"
"I can't fix it," Morris said matter-of-factly.
After all, he was just a first-year student.
He wasn't very familiar with healing spells and soundproofing spells. Or rather, he hadn't even had a chance to learn them yet.
"You'll have to figure that out yourself," Roger said expressionlessly, even somewhat coldly. "I have no obligation to help you deal with the trouble you caused yourself."
"I'll treat you to candy!"
"unnecessary!"
In the end, Roger still managed to fix the wall for Maurice.
Although he said he was reluctant, he eventually offered his help when he saw his junior in trouble.
Morris sighed with some emotion: Indeed, there are still more good people than bad in this world.
